    Just so much Christian special pleading. Christians really do just ignore every other religion that spouts the exact same silly arguments. Gods are just a figment of human imagination.

      53:50 "The cananites sacrificed their kids....What does that deserve?"
      Wait god sacrificed his kid? Maybe he meant we should worship the cananites. Either that or we should kill god. One or the other.

    God is the ultimate... "With Great Power comes no responsibility." The Christian god is a constant buck passer blaming everybody but itself for all the harm it causes.

    52:20 And he just makes it worse. God didn't give the chosen land to the Israelites earlier because the Canaanites were not evil enough yet, so it sent the Israelites into slavery for 400 years, allowed the Canaanites to become increasingly evil, and then sent the finally freed Israelites in to slaughter them. Wow, how moral, how ethical.

    A better way to argue against Pascal's wager is to just say "If those are the only two choices, then Pascal's wager gives us 50/50 odds of escaping Hell. But when dealing with hypotheticals, there is an infinite set of possibilities. Given the infinite set of hypothetically possible worlds, Pascal's wager gives us a 1/infinity odds of escaping Hell - which is essentially zero.

    • @mirandahotspring4019

      Or read another way, 1 : infinity of ending up in hell, also essentially zero!

      Simply ask "which hell would I go to and why that one in particular?" and it goes downhill from there.

    Morality isn't a "force" "just like gravity" that "permeates the universe" - total horse dookie there.
    But rather 2 things can be true at the same time: Morality is both objective (derived from a reality of _shared_ experiences) and subjective (we make it up, for us).
    Really not that hard.

    50:29 If you have more power than a bully, you should stop the bully, but just because you have more power, doesn't mean you should break all the bones in the bully's body. You should exercise restraint and only cause as much harm as necessary to stop the bully. This Christians appears to have missed Tom's point entirely. God is like a teacher who stopped an elementary school bully by killing him instead of giving a more reasonable punishment, and instead of teaching why bullying is wrong.

    • @octocycle
      @octocycle 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    51:40 "God had given then 400 years to amend their ways" I really hate this response, as it tells us nothing. How did God let them know they were doing the wrong thing? Did he send them prophets to tell them? Did he appear personally? And did he just do this once at the start of the 400 year period, or continuously throughout? We don't know, it doesn't say. It could be that they were just meant to come to the right conclusion on their own, and because they didn't ah well, all the babies must die. I really annoys me that theists can't see the issue with this, and think the claim that God gave them 400 years to change justifies what happened next.

  • @EatHoneyBeeHappy
    @EatHoneyBeeHappy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The gentleman's free will argument is one I haven't heard before. If God has $1000 of free will, and he gives us $100 of that free will, then we have 10% free will and God has 90% free will. This has some very damning implications for the Christian worldview, I don't think he has thought through his analogy very much. I'm curious how he came to the 10% and 90% and how what freedoms are included in each slice of the pie.

    • @MINDYOUROWNBUISINESS
      @MINDYOUROWNBUISINESS 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, its a particularly insane apologetic, if its what I think it is. Because the Magic Potato is Transcendent, and provides the preconditions of intelligibility, logic itself would not be possible, without making use of the giant magical potato.
      The potato speaks to his special friends in ways they can be certain are true, and I just plain don't want to discuss that topic any further, and will react with hostility if you esquire, but basically since you're all standing on my magic potato, you have to pay me rent.
      Pay up.
      "God IS the standard of morality" is the logical equivalent of "The MAGIC POTATO is the standard of morality". Its a stupid incoherent claim.

I'm quite certain the Bible mentions Jesus thought the world was supposed to end 2000 years ago, and Jesus was supposed to come back in the lifetimes of his 12 disciples. Those are both predictions about the natural world.

    There is really only one question to answer. Does a god exist. If a god does not exist, but believers exist.. it is entirely possible to come up with all of these poetic license arguments of moral guidance, and how to treat others and pretend that a god has endorsed things. We are not arguing about what a god can do if it exists. We are arguing about does a god exist or not. These red herrings do not point to a god existing. They do not identify a god from a lineup of potential gods and they do not advance our knowledge of any such beings if they do exist.
    I think we need to start holding them to the one question and do any of their answers actually demonstrate a god exists vs just supporting the idea of a god existing.

    • @uninspired3583
