Magnetic Levitation for Energy Harvesting Using Superconductors

- Researchers at Huazhong University of Science (led by Bin Su) and Technology and NC State have demonstrated a way to convert mechanical energy into electricity.
A magnetic is levitated using superconductors located beneath the magnet. There is also a copper coil beneath the magnet. When the magnet moves (by, for example, impact from an object), it induces a current in the coil. Thus, it converts mechanical to electrical energy. This energy harvester works best in cold environments and therefore may be useful in outer space.

Wouldn't the same happen if you bounced a marble off a woofer? ..and you don't even need liquid nitrogen.
Sure, a superconductor can be 'charged' to perhaps three to ten tesla instead of a subwoofer's 1.2 or 1.3; but still..
