    Thats pretty cool. I have a lift on my hydro splitter and its really fast. Jerks the machine and I flipped it with a big oak round. Supper splitter supposed to show up Monday!

      Sorry to hear about the hydro unit, but congrats on the new splitter. You’re gonna love it. They make a great product!

      Absolutely. Having a place to stage rounds will be as nice as the lift itself I think. Appreciate you watching

    I admire your creativity. I have to wonder if the actuator used could handle a second 12 V battery wired in series for 24 VDC for a short application time? If so, that should about double the speed. Another thought would be to add a 6 volt battery in series for an 18 V power source. Do install a circuit breaker or fuse of sufficient amperage next to your battery on any application for the prevention of bad things.

    Wow man, what a brilliant build. I just got my Supersplit delivered a couple months ago and I've been following your channel while I was waiting on it to be built. I watched all your videos and learned a lot from them. I just posted a video on my channel that shows my supersplit and I'm going to bet you are probably the only one that could spot why my supersplit is different then any other factory new one :)

      @@BuildALotAcres You nailed it. I didn't know they changed the cover and was surprised when I saw the new design when mine showed up. I really loved the look of ones like yours so decided to do some modifying haha.

      @@RubberDuc Very cool. So yours is plastic with a custom paint job? They were originally fiberglass. The black and red style is when they switched to plastic I believe.

    • @RubberDuc
      @RubberDuc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BuildALotAcres Plastic, which if I'm honest it is a disappointment from the original fiberglass units, but I understand why they do it. I've been doing auto paint/body work for a long time as a hobby so it was really just finding a technique that would make it look like fiberglass/metal and then recreating all the decals, etc. I'm a designer by trade so that part was easy. I had to spend a long time looking at hoods like yours and others to get the placement right. My wife calls me "fruit loops" because she says I'm the only guy in the world that would do this to a log splitter hahahaha. But I guess it is the artistic/designer side of me, I just like the look of the older style!

    Great project Case 👍🏻, that was a big round first it’s first test, it did look a bit slower but that was heavy pieces and the splitter did look tippy, I would probably add another leg on the lift side 👍🏻. Have a great weekend Case 🙂🙋🏼‍♂️👍🏻

    I would make sure that you have either a circuit breaker or a fuse inline from the battery.
    When you are fully loaded like I watched in 1 of your other videos you are probably well in excess of the capacity of the actuator. Due to the leverage putting 300 pounds on the lift and lifting it you are probably requiring the actuator to push at close to 1000 pounds. I used to use lots of actuators and with some digging you could probably find some technical specs that give you thrust and current figures for the mm/s rates.
    Actuators are subject to sag and they will sag more when there is vibration present. The internal screw threads are greased and when they are under a high load with vibration present it will allow the nut to rotate on the thread slowly.

      Great comment Alan. I agree I was probably pushing its limits. Wanted to give it a real world test to see how it would perform. Appreciate the sound advice sir 🙏

    I think a simple hydraulic setup would be…seeing as you have a tractor there, get some long hoses hooked to tractor rear remotes. Lock open remote, and loop thru 2way valve and work ports to cylinder. No battery, way faster and better control. With right valve you can even have float down.

    • @BuildALotAcres
      @BuildALotAcres  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many times I use the SuperSplitter the Kioti isn’t there. I do agree it’d be faster, and no battery.

  • @GardenTractorBoy
    @GardenTractorBoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great work making the lift. It did look slower but it was also out in the cold which would have impacted the efficiency of the battery and maybe the actuator. It dos not really matter how slow it is, some of those rounds looked too heavy to lift in any other way

    Have you tried your tractor bucket as a lift and pull rounds off the bucket onto the splitter? I tried it once and it seemed to work, but I've barely put half a cord through my Super Split so I'm still learning what works/doesn't.

    • @BuildALotAcres

      I have and it works great. Typically it’s tied up with the IBC tote or fork box though to put splits into. It also shows folks without loader tractors what’s possible. Appreciate the comment friend!

    How long/wide did you make your lift? Are those 1" tubes in the center? I'm going to have to make one for my SS HD, looks great! I think I may use a hydraulic cylinder with a 12v hydraulic power unit instead, for faster lifting.
    Thanks

    • @BuildALotAcres
      @BuildALotAcres  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a great project. I hear you about the speed. I’m going off memory, but the lift is 24” wide. The pipe spacers are standard schedule 40 steel pipe that are 3/4” I.D. The long leg is 36”, and the short leg I believe I made 18”.

      Like I mentioned in the video, I chose this one because it was heavy duty, with a good weight rating, and had a faster speed of 10mm/sec. Many were only 5mm/sec. Getting the geometry of the points where the actuator ends pin on is the most important thing imo. Good luck 👍

    Nice idea, but just TOO slow. I have a Termite backhoe loader and I load up all the big rounds in the front bucket and drive it up to the side of my splitter and move them into place to split. This way I don't have to pick up the heavy pieces.

    Nice video. Nice mod. You’ll be able to swap out that actuator in the future if you find a better one quickly. I agree 100% about the out riggers. The only thing that I see as a negative is how wide the machine is now. Too bad you can’t fold it up at a 90 deg angle for transport or storage. Overall great job!

    • @BuildALotAcres
      @BuildALotAcres  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment Chris. I do have to be careful towing it and being mindful of the new “wing” clipping trees, etc. It can’t go any higher mainly do the table being in the way. I could unpin the actuator to overcome the full extension of the actuator being an issue. Maybe I can figure out a solution to raise it higher. Thankfully my woods trails are pretty wide (about 10-11 feet)

    Worked good. A little slow for my liking, but that’s just me. Sure better than lifting it. Just two thoughts. If you got the same actuator but let’s say 7 or 8” stoke and mounted it to the next cross piece closest to the splitter, that would make it move faster. And still have the power to lift it. Just my thinkin. Not sayin you did it wrong. Just my thought.
    And it looks like you need a stablizier on the round lift side or add weight to your side that you work from. Seemed tipsy when lifting and more so when you reached over to get the round. Again, just my thinkin. Not tryin to be negative on your great build.

    • @BuildALotAcres
      @BuildALotAcres  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had similar critical thoughts. I was originally hoping to use a 8” stroke actuator, but couldn’t get the geometry to work. Would have shaved off about 5 seconds. I agree a stabilizer is a good idea. I’m glad I have the drop down legs
