Owned a 1970 914-6 thirty years ago and yes, would take it over a 911! Wish I still had it. Worth a buck nowadays. Time for a lifter job on this one.

I'm the second owner of my 2.0L since 1979. These used to be called the "poor man's Porsche". Sadly most did not appreciate nor understand the fun gained from the driving experience during the early days. A sincere cool car, fun, easy to maintain and rebuild if required. Video content A+

I own a '72 914 that I bought with less than 18K miles (it has 22K now), and it's a delightful car to drive. I love it more than I ever thought I would.

I had a roommate that owned a 914-2.0. We’d swap cars once in awhile and I had fun driving it. I wish I owned one.

Owned a 1973 914 2.0. Regret having sold it; wish I still had it. Hell yes, I’d have my 2.0 over a 911 any day!

Anyone who's driven a 60s-70s 911/912 (or especially a 912E) and then the 914 will tell you the 914 is a vastly more fun car to drive - you feel much closer to the road - I'll use the cliched "go kart" but really it's about the closest thing you'll get to that feeling you get in a go kart on the street.

I love the look of 914s. A roommate in college had a 2.0. At that time I had a TR6 (6 but also 2.0)...My TR was quicker, but I loved how his 914 cornered...flat as a board.

The 914 is a proper vintage Porsche experience, it’s the closest thing to a 550 spider there is and that’s a $1,000,000 car sooo.

I had a 1972 914 four cylinder for about six years and in the interim my father bought a rather rare Volkswagen 411 - virtually the same motor only a bit bigger displacement as I recall. Then he sold the 411 and bought a 412 which was even rarer... When that caught fire and he' sold it I still had the 914!

Best year and displacement for a four cylinder model - you got all the options included from the factory (fog lights, f/r sway bars, Fuchs, etc).

I owned a 1975-914, it was so much fun to drive, and very dependable for 1975. Much safer to drive than a 911 of that era too!

Not a mention of VW manufacture, “refined”, “smooth shifting”? This is 180 from any 914 review I’ve read or watched. My experience might not align but they are neat little cars. For the non-mechanical type, I think the Miata might be more bang for the buck.

I have driven the 911 and that has its own unique handling characteristics. I am interested to know what the 914 is like.

    I'd take a 914 over a 911

I absolutely would drive that car over a 911 because it's way cooler. Now if I was going to inherit a 911 or 914 I would take the 911

The problem with 911's since the backend would break loose on a turn and you'd lose it, unless you stayed on the pedal. A lot of Pro athletes were killed because of that. Two of my friends totaled theirs.
The 914 was 55/45 % weight balance, it was like driving a Go-Kart and was almost as low.

Would I drive this over a 911?? I have nothing to compare it with, never having driven a 911, but there are two reasons I'd sour on driving/owning a 914. First, the steering wheel is off-set to the right, I was hitting against my thigh every time I turned a corner. Sounds niggling, but it's the kind of thing that turns into a major annoyance when it happens time and time and time again.
The second thing is the torsion bar suspension. I replaced mine twice on the front right corner. Also, gets kind of tiresome after a while.
This car can be a lot of fun and has a lot of things in its favor, but on balance i'll pass.

      @jimohara4796 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

The factory steering wheel in the 914 is large to give the fairer sex more leverage steering at low speeds (no power steering). Many owners swap the factory steering wheel for a Momo Prototipo and never look back. The torsion bar front suspension of the 914 is the same as the 911. Maybe you had a bad torsion bar and a low quality replacement - usually they last a pretty long time...
