Righteous Brothers are icons. They are not brothers. Bill Medley is the one starts singing first. Bobby Hatfield is the one with the awesome falsetto. This was pure raw talent. No auto tune. What you hear is what you get! Bobby Hatfield does song call Unchained Melody. You should listen to that. It will blow your mind! Love your reaction! ♥
Bobby with that incredible high tenor/falsetto, Bill with maybe the greatest baritone in Rock history were straight out cold blooded killers as the R.Bs
These guys were awesome when they came out in 1964. I'm 76 yrs old, and I never get tired of listening to their music. I'm so glad you liked this song. You need to listen their other hits. Watch Bobby sing unchained melody on the Andy Williams show. He won't disappoint you! ❤
A lot of people had just heard them on the radio- this was their first big exposure on national TV. Most people assumed they were black- that's why the opening showed them in silhouette until the big reveal when the lights came on.
These guys were just so classy. I know times were real different then. But they had true soul and class. And that bridge where they trade off is just fire.
According to Medley, they then adopted the name The Righteous Brothers for the duo because black Marines from the El Toro Marine base started calling them "righteous brothers". At the end of a performance, black U.S. Marines in the audience would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!", and would greet them with "Hey righteous brothers, how you doin'?" on meeting them.
They are loaded with SOUL!!!! This is the most played song on radio in history! Deep voiced Bill Medley had a gigantic hit with Jennifer Warnes on “ The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing.
It may be before our time, but its a beautiful timeless classic. A bit of blue-eyed soul, love it. Such beautiful harmonies and straight up raw talent. Lets all bring back that lovin' feelin'. Thanx sis, Peace
This one is a reaction staple. I've seen dozens and dozens of reactions to this song. This is a top one. Love you. Oh, and they aren't brothers. You saw the one guy do Unchained Melody. He explained it there, but what he said was basically that someone said something like "You are righteous, brothers". and that's the shortened version of how they got their name. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield.
You thought they were Black? That's why it's called "blue-eyed soul". If you liked this one, I can't wait to see your reaction to "Soul and Inspiration".
K Shavon hello, This is my first time sitting in with you today and thank you for allowing me to do that! I really enjoyed the time I spent with you so I subscribed and left a like for you while I was here! Girl you had me rolling on the floor laughing. This is why they are called Blue-Eyed-Soul, they are great alone but they are exceptional when they sing together! I absolutely loved your reaction to Bill and Bobby!
Towards the end of the music is THEEE quietest You have EVER been. A sure sign of music quality if ever I've seen or heard it. They are fantastic and righteous.
They had some great hits that were love songs but they were more R&B as you will see the further you dive into their videos. Their performances live on the weekly Shindig TV show would bring the house down. Many times they would let it rip and what they did with "You are My Sunshine" is amazing and their humor sparkles in "Ko Ko Joe" and "Justine" where Bill uses his height to play keep away with the mic...sooo funny. Bobby sings the hell out of "Summertime" and since there weren't enough piano keys he invented his own notes. Bill sings a very bluesy "I Just Want to Make Love to You" that may cause a woman to dream of finding a guy like that. Thank you for a great reaction to these amazing singers.
❤❤ Your so AWSOME bestie❤❤, you should listen to Elvis do this song of theirs in Vegas. Of course he does it Elvis style!❤😂😂 These two guys did a lot of Great songs.
Yes I was 10 years old and we all fell in love with them thinking they were Black because we all had radios. Then saw them on TV and were White but we didn't care because we were already in love with them.
Robert Lee (Bobby) Hatfield (August 10, 1940 - November 5, 2003) Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher countertenor voice to Bill Medley’s, William Thomas Medley (born September 19, 1940) baritone, Elvis was born on January 8, 1935. They were both five years younger than Elvis.
Excellent reaction! Love that you pointed out the way Bobby just sat there just waiting his turn. And when it was his turn, he let loose! RIP Bobby, and I still love you and that deep voice, Bill!
You have got to hear them sing Night Time is the Right Time with the Blossoms, and Soul and Inspiration. Then hear Bill Medley sing Brown Eyed Woman. !!!!! Bill has been singing all this time, and is retiring after this year. He has just finished a new album. I had the pleasure of meeting him this Spring, and he is so nice, gracious, and genuine, love the guy!
Darlin", I am a 75 year old white dude and back in the day when I heard them on my cars AM radio I thought they were black as well! It wasn't until some years later when they were on a Andy Williams TV Special that I saw them and said to myself; "DAMN!" But then, Charlie Pride, a popular black country artist surprised us all when we discovered that he was black! Same reaction; "DAMN!" So much for judging a book by its cover!
The love of my life & high school sweetheart Sharon and I saw them live in 1965 at the Community Concourse in San Diego. They were AMAZING. There were Black folks there who didn't know Bobby & Bill were White. We ALL had a great time. Sharon is STILL the love of my life.
Watch Elvis cover this song and also Bridge Over Troubled Water from 1970 - just amazing versions that almost make you forget the originals. But make sure it's the versions from 1970 in Vegas because they're the best and he looks and sounds incredible!
I simply adore your reactions BBF .My Mom LOVED them and Elvis Beautiful friend you won't need Kneepads. They're Gentlemen and would swiftly and lovingly pick you up after you swoon Love you xoxo
Bill Medley was in love with one of the Love sisters (Darlene, I think) who were sometimes their back-up singers. She was a beautiful black woman. They were together three years before splitting up. I don't know if race had anything to do with it, but that was over fifty years ago, so it could have.
I think you watched Bobby Hatfield sing Unchained Melody solo in the pink suit jacket already. He's the one with the high countertenor voice. For actual brothers check out The Everly Brothers singing All I Do Is Dream & Cathy's Clown. They're both on one video.
Hi sweetheart. Thank you so much for doing this video. I have seen other people reacting to this on TH-cam and they keep on referring to them as brothers whereas they aren’t even related. Apparently the way they got their name was they did a gig down south somewhere and after the gig had finished a member of the audience stood up and said to Bill Medley, that righteous brother and apparently that’s how they got their name. Sorry, just a little bit of useless information for you. LOL. The best thing about this is that this was before the time of CGI and filters so what you saw is what you got and they were fantastic. maybe you should get some kneepads with bowties on them.😂. Once again, thank you so much for doing a great video and another fantastic laugh with you. And thank you so much for putting a smile on my face. Please take care and blessings to you from the UK.❤
@@101scetch Should have added it was Marines, especially one, from a nearby base that started calling them righteous (cool) brothers (friend), slang at the time. It would be shouted out during performances, and they would be greeted with how ya doing righteous brothers when they would encounter them coming & going. They were in a group called The Paramours. When they recorded Little Latin Lupe Lu as a duo, they needed a name. Bobby suggested they use the name the Marines were calling them. They played off the brother thing a lot during shows. Take care
From what I understand, it was black artists who called their sound "righteous" which is where the idea of the name came from.. I first heard this song when Hall & Oats did a cover of it and it was really popular. I didn't hear their version until years later. The Hall & Oates version is at a faster tempo and really good as well. But this is definitely the classic, best original version. I knew you'd say something when he said, "Baby, baby, I get down on my knees for you." lolol
I❤your reaction 2 this song, it was epic. I was born in the late 70's but I grew up with this music since both my parents listened 2 oldies, imagine this was live & pure talent back then. Funny Story: for the longest time my fiancé tried stumping me by playing all different kinds of oldies 2 see if I knew the songs, altho I don't always know who sings it but I always knew the songs. He failed every single time🤣He was even playing songs from the 40's & I was just singing away. I shouldn't know any songs from that time, my father was born in 1944 so he had 2 have played them. Much❤
If you never saw them and heard them on the radio, you'd think they were Black. Just like everyone else did. Radio stations refused to play them because they thought they were Black. And when Black clubs booked they actually didn't believe they were the guys they heard when they showed up. They were like, "You're not the Righteous Brothers. Where are the Black guys?" The guy you like -- Bill Medley -- talked about that happening to them in LA.
Live, no auto tune, 1964. Most requested song on the radio for all of the 20th century. They are not real brothers. Bill Hadley, deep voice, and Bobby Hatfield.
The absolute greatest. If anybody so much as dared to enter Bobby Hatfield's league when he does his version of "Unchained Melody", I can only think of the words over the Devil's Island Entrance door which says,.."Abandon all hope, he who enters here!!"
They fell under the “Blue Eyed Soul” category. The Bee Gees, Dusty Springfield (Son of a Preacher Man), Amy Winehouse and Adele are considered Blue Eyed Soul. (Just to name a few)
Not to make this all weird, but its nice when musicians like this pay homage to the black music industry the right way instead of the wrong way (Elvis). Theres a reason black DJs in the 60's called this type of music, "blue-eyed soul". They grew up in the industry singing R&B and Rhythm&Blues from black artists and were very open about the fact that the music stems from that community. They brought more visibility to the genre instead of trying to steal it and become the "king" of it.
The person who uploaded this video overdubbed the studio recording onto the video. Don’t ask me why. Maybe slightly better sound quality. The performance with the original audio is on TH-cam.
