There's not that many girls that read Marvel comics when they were kids, so making a woman friendly show and just slapping the Marvel name on it isn't going to make them watch. If anything it might put some of them off it. They would have been better off buying the rights to Sex and the City or something and remaking that for "modern audiences".
Agatha has gotten worse with every episode. It wasn’t amazing when it started but it gets cringier every week. I couldn’t finish watching the last weeks show, it was just too irritating. One thing that’s making this super hard to watch is that it’s all protagonists and the only antagonists are some no-name witches following them that don’t seem to be a very present threat and you barely even see them. It’s just feelings, exposition, music numbers and cringe.
Not the most hardcore fan, but wasn't Agatha just a babysitter for all practical purposes? I didn't read all the issues, but I read a fair few and don't remember much about her.
Its not for me, so I decided to leave it for the modern audience to enjoy, but they always seem to be busy to tune in and watch and play the products especially for them.

It was my favorite current show, followed by The Penguin (way overrated). However, the bad writing in the last episode has basically made me completely lose interest. I will still finish it, but I dropped my rating from a 9 to a 1. That's how bad the last episode was. Not only did it not give us any answers to the big cliff hanger, from the episode before, but it pretty much made it obvious that none would be coming. The things that didn't make sense, like everyone's personalities just completely changing, will have no explanation. It was just incompetent writing. Before then I thought the writing was fine. But all these sudden and unexplained personality changes are unforgivable. For example: We have now seen Billy's entire life. At no point was he anything other than nice. But now he is suddenly a sullen murderer, for no reason btw, and he only killed the ones who were nice to him and helped him. And without any explanations it means that in the episode before when everyone suddenly turned against Agatha for no reason, once again it is just bad writing. I had expected them to be possessed or something, with Billy saving them by throwing them in the mud. But nope. BTW..Where's Rio been during all of this. I know people say, well she is Death and so has to deal with the bodies. But do you know how many people die every single second? Death doesn't have to take time to deal with bodies. So, once again, nonsensical writing just to make things happen. I am quite disappointed. Though I had been loving it up until now, despite completely planning to hate it ahead of time. Maybe reality finally caught back up to me.
The Penguin is around 1.5 million US for first 24-48 hrs. Not great, not bad, actually not much more than Agatha or Acolyte (Acolyte actually had more than the Penguin) only the latter two lost half and more after permiere. Also visible by numer of ratings on IMDb: 32-33 days in, The Pengun 40-41K, Agatha 28K. Just for comparison, I will use Fallout again (that show has gigantic audience and viewership) that was in same time period at 150-160K.
At this point, anything reviewed positively by kotaku is going to underperform with audiences, its how you know the show only exists for the site that shoves ten thousand banner ads to write their garbage clickbait articles
Of their massive catalog of chars why would do they keep picking chars no one knows or cares about? I couldn’t tell you one thing about this char to win a billion dollars.
The writing quality is also awful. They set up their own rules for how things work in this shows world, then break those ruless eg Agatha is on the witches road to try and get her powers back, but several times she casts spells during the journey to get her powers back. 🤪

I got bored after 3 episodes; all that $$$ for basically a claustrophobic studio set with average writing. It appears all these WOKE Hollywood women are milking the Mouse for as much money as possible
I mean 426 million minutes for 2eps. About 80 min air time ~5.4 million per ep (in US, as Nielsen shows US only, yes?) for a week (3 to 6 days depending on air day). Acolyte had 72 min air time for 6 days what puts it at ~6.8 million per ep in US. Not super bad, but nothing to be proud of. Also those bad shows suffer drop offs after couple or few eps. Usual miserable stuff. Most sad thing is: shows being claimed as great and successful have nothing other than same and similar views.. As mentioned quite times: only show that had LARGE audience 2024 is Fallout with over 2.9 billion minutes (first 4-5 days) of which 80% focused on 1st half of the season (one and up to four eps), putting it with full 4 eps runtime of ~260 min at ~11 million per ep in US. 2nd week was 2.6 billion, 3rd 2.3 billion, and those two with full run time ~450 min, puts the season at 4-6 million for each week per ep in US, meaning the show watched by +20 million first 18 days in US. Then Amaz came out with 65 million watched globaly first 16 days. So yeah, it adds up (maybe Amaz even under reported the number protecting The Boys S4 and Rangs S2 that were about to air later in the summer). Huge audience Fallout had, either way, also noticable by sheer number of ratings on IMDb compared to how long the show is out, and with only a single season, additionally aired binge model. Other shows just aren't even close.. 🤷 And that actually extends and applies back and beyond 2024 only..
Who wants to watch this show of insufferable characters where nothing happens? Where the one male character behaves in a way nobody who grew up in the 80s or or 90s can identify with. The guy annoyed the hell out of me.
It’s ok, way better than Acolyte. Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza & Joe Lock carry the show nicely. I’m enjoying it even though I don’t know why it exists. Still roll on EP7.
I agree with these takes about was it needed - short answer no and the cast did nothing to help it while promoting (as in the acolyte) but I’m watching it and it’s not terrible. She hulk and Secret Invasion were waaaaaay worse

This show is so far removed from the Classic world of Marvel Comics superheroes I grew up on during the 80s/90s as to beggar belief.

The things that didn't make sense, like everyone's personalities just completely changing, will have no explanation. It was just incompetent writing. Before then I thought the writing was fine. But all these sudden and unexplained personality changes are unforgivable.
For example: We have now seen Billy's entire life. At no point was he anything other than nice. But now he is suddenly a sullen murderer, for no reason btw, and he only killed the ones who were nice to him and helped him.
And without any explanations it means that in the episode before when everyone suddenly turned against Agatha for no reason, once again it is just bad writing. I had expected them to be possessed or something, with Billy saving them by throwing them in the mud. But nope.
BTW..Where's Rio been during all of this. I know people say, well she is Death and so has to deal with the bodies. But do you know how many people die every single second? Death doesn't have to take time to deal with bodies. So, once again, nonsensical writing just to make things happen.
I am quite disappointed. Though I had been loving it up until now, despite completely planning to hate it ahead of time. Maybe reality finally caught back up to me.

How did Penguin do?
The Penguin is around 1.5 million US for first 24-48 hrs. Not great, not bad, actually not much more than Agatha or Acolyte (Acolyte actually had more than the Penguin) only the latter two lost half and more after permiere. Also visible by numer of ratings on IMDb: 32-33 days in, The Pengun 40-41K, Agatha 28K. Just for comparison, I will use Fallout again (that show has gigantic audience and viewership) that was in same time period at 150-160K.
And Agetha coming close to a Star Wars show is pretty good

Of their massive catalog of chars why would do they keep picking chars no one knows or cares about? I couldn’t tell you one thing about this char to win a billion dollars.
The writing quality is also awful. They set up their own rules for how things work in this shows world, then break those ruless eg Agatha is on the witches road to try and get her powers back, but several times she casts spells during the journey to get her powers back. 🤪

I think it's a shame as it's much better than the acolyte and it's quality for me has been quite good especially performances and writing.
I got bored after 3 episodes; all that $$$ for basically a claustrophobic studio set with average writing. It appears all these WOKE Hollywood women are milking the Mouse for as much money as possible
I mean 426 million minutes for 2eps. About 80 min air time ~5.4 million per ep (in US, as Nielsen shows US only, yes?) for a week (3 to 6 days depending on air day). Acolyte had 72 min air time for 6 days what puts it at ~6.8 million per ep in US. Not super bad, but nothing to be proud of. Also those bad shows suffer drop offs after couple or few eps. Usual miserable stuff. Most sad thing is: shows being claimed as great and successful have nothing other than same and similar views..
As mentioned quite times: only show that had LARGE audience 2024 is Fallout with over 2.9 billion minutes (first 4-5 days) of which 80% focused on 1st half of the season (one and up to four eps), putting it with full 4 eps runtime of ~260 min at ~11 million per ep in US. 2nd week was 2.6 billion, 3rd 2.3 billion, and those two with full run time ~450 min, puts the season at 4-6 million for each week per ep in US, meaning the show watched by +20 million first 18 days in US. Then Amaz came out with 65 million watched globaly first 16 days. So yeah, it adds up (maybe Amaz even under reported the number protecting The Boys S4 and Rangs S2 that were about to air later in the summer). Huge audience Fallout had, either way, also noticable by sheer number of ratings on IMDb compared to how long the show is out, and with only a single season, additionally aired binge model. Other shows just aren't even close.. 🤷 And that actually extends and applies back and beyond 2024 only..

It’s ok, way better than Acolyte. Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza & Joe Lock carry the show nicely. I’m enjoying it even though I don’t know why it exists. Still roll on EP7.

Well i like it tbh . Sure its a bit cheesy but i think its fun . I wasnt a fan of The Acolyte.
I get why Agatha isnt doing great but it makes me laugh and cringe in places .
