A year and a half ago my grandfather passed away from cancer. At his funeral I cried, and I cried for him multiple times for weeks after. However, it has been a while since I've thought about him and during this movie all of my memories with him came flooding back and I was drawn to tears almost the entire time. I'm even crying while writing this. I understand this is long after this video was relevant and he probably won't see it, but Mr. Lowery, I just wanted to thank you for making something that was genuine. It felt really good to cry for him and just think about the times I had with him that I had honestly forgotten.
finally saw this movie. oh boy was it a good one. he goes back in time -- waits for decades just to read this note. most romantic thing i have ever seen. and the fact that maybe some parts of him wants to stay in this house because he somehow knows this connection he has with the house - just amazing. that the ghost was him from the beginning. oh my gosh. how can a guy in a sheet with black eyes, make you feel so many things? this movie made me feel something else. it just hit me in the gut! this movie is absolutely amazing. and hello... that pie scene though,
When he's the ghost he's much larger than Casey Affleck's normal size. He seems larger than life. Which is the whole point. But it turns the ghost from just a man in a sheet to this ... presence looming over the room. Oof I just gave myself chills. The thought that he existed possibly for hundreds of years just watching people, to the point that he's grown as a ghost, and his younger ghost self seems immature. Incredible. And the pie scene, when I spotted tears rolling down her face... and he's standing there. Damn.
@@AlternateRealityMusic lol. He did go back in time itself. Literally back to the Indians etc. Waiting all those decades for it to be present day and they move In again. One long loop of time.
Dude, thank you, I just spent my evening doing that, and now I feel glad someone else did too. And hey, that's the message of the movie! We're both going to die, but still, we got to watch this gem, twice, and then tell each other from the other side of the planet. Take care, Phil.
This is an exceptional interview. Loved all of the questions and Lowery did such a terrific job answering them. This really enhanced my viewing of the film.
I glad I stuck it out watching the earlier slow scenes. The latter half and the context it gave the beginning made my most profound movie watching experience I had.
Amazing director! For him to make this film in the way he did and to do it so well should not be taken lightly. This conception could've gone so wrong if not helmed by a great director like David great insight
Definitely see the French new wave influence where there’s lots of lingering shots or following the ordinary routine of a person that many conventional directors would cut short
hahahaha...why>?!! the most beautiful film i've seen in a long time! daaaaamn, cant you just take it in>? geeeezus. go look at some youtube videos with people explaining it.
Mr. Director writes to you because the film my friend Dragon I really liked. You are really a fighter. A lot of the film you made is really fantastic. You are a real fighter. OK
This movie feels like: watch a pretty regular dude find out what it's like to be a ghost, after living life, and seeing this ghost shape at halloween, maybe even wearing it himself as a kid. Well, now you're a ghost. And it's different than you expect, and you end up falling for all the ghost cliches. Even after life you're letting yourself down a bit. I've never seen a movie about a ghost with a character arc.
I'm incredibly excited for this flick, but I hope it doesn't try too hard to be "different". I don't mind slow or drifting. I sat through "Last Days"... I can handle anything after that one. This idea and image is so fascinating that I can't get it out of my head. Originality is rare, even when it's eh.
I really like American movies that are filmed. I'm with the Czech Republic. Your fan of US movies like you made in 2014 Dragoun Eljot and I wish you a happy heart. Petty Jar.
Despite his not-great working reputation, Casey Affleck picks interesting projects, and I thought this was one of them: a small beautiful story about impermanence, priority and love, told by a sheet with eyeholes.
This movie depressed the holy crap out of me. I sat spellbound through the entire thing. Very good, except for the party scene with the annoying exposition.
I think the party scene is a double edged sword were people who need it in the movie it’s there and it’s not necessarily a bad acted scene. But as someone who already knew what this movie was saying it was midlying annoying. To me it doesn’t take away enough from the movie it’s still a 10/10 movie for me.
What a lovely, interesting person. 11:02 And a vegan on top of that...Awesome combo of vegans! :) This movie is just amazing. It really broke my heart, but in such a beautiful way... Really overwhelming. To see people like him make such meaningful, humble and subtle art really is a blow to the mind.
It might sound crazy but i believe the spirits of the dead have influenced him to make this movie. Some of these remind me of a deceased person who has done similar things. Just saying.

Just watched the film, amazed.

We crave and cling to impermanent states and things. Time is not what we think. I love this movie snd Arrival.
Oh yeahhhh thank you ... Arrival. Of course. This movie reminds me of many things I can't put my finger on that gave me similar vibes.
I saw Arrival and Ghost Story back to back and stumbled upon your comment. Interesting
I had to download the soundtrack before I watched the movie I can't wait to see it
I just finished watching that movie and I need some serious explaining!!!!!
What do you need explaining on? I feel like I had a good grasp on the movie.

An amazing movie. Shows u what cinema can be.

Incredible!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ my favorite movie.
loved this movie. hit me hard, but still loved it.
Despite his not-great working reputation, Casey Affleck picks interesting projects, and I thought this was one of them: a small beautiful story about impermanence, priority and love, told by a sheet with eyeholes.
I knew that was kesha.
Yeah it was like "is that??" then I told myself, come on, there's gotta be other people with nose rings in 2017, but no, Kesha
9:32 seth rogan?
Is that actually Seth rogan 😂😂😂
This movie depressed the holy crap out of me. I sat spellbound through the entire thing. Very good, except for the party scene with the annoying exposition.
This movie spiraled me into an existential crisis! I had to immediately consume other content to purge my mind of self destructive thoughts.

00:31 I’ve literally done this… i couldn’t even tell you what they said. Nor could I tell you the locations of these places lol.
What a lovely, interesting person. 11:02 And a vegan on top of that...Awesome combo of vegans! :)

It was a vegan pie, too :) Of course
Only movie to make me cry without words.
"I will remember you"
"You were loved here"

The 2 friends I saw "A Ghost Story" with loved it, but I was bored out of my mind.
supermilkguy that's a shame it looks like the reviews are either awesome or awful I hope I fall on the awesome side
You needed to let go of your expectations and beliefs...
You definitely should re-watch by yourself. I don't think you should watch it with company, because you'll be taken out of it.
Well, then pal, you found out which friend you are of the group....... I'll bet you were heckin' annoying about it too
It might sound crazy but i believe the spirits of the dead have influenced him to make this movie. Some of these remind me of a deceased person who has done similar things. Just saying.
Or he's making a movie about ghost stories from the ghost's view?
A millenial movie for millenial people, dont get me wrong, beautiful made but too pretencious for its own good
Good try though
Teresa Gener I’m sure as you get older you will get it eventually
One day..... you'll learn how to spell pretentious and have the attention span for a movie made for grown-ups.
