After an exhausting non-biased Bible study on the topic, I came to the conclusion that nowhere in the Bible does it ban the practice of multiple wives. It only speaks against divorce. It's strictly bans deacons, pastors and elders in the New testament (1 Timothy 3:2, 1 Timothy 3:12 & Titus 1:6 ) and Israeli kings in the Old testament (Deuteronomy 17:17). The New testament (1st Corinthians 7 10-11) says a woman can't divorce her husband but if she does, she has to either go back to him or stay celibate. If she remarries it's adultery. Then it says men can't divorce their wives and that's all it says. It doesn't give marriage quantity restrictions. The Old testament not only commands but gives instructions on how a man has to take in his brother's wife as his own if the brother dies regardless of if he's married or not already (Deuteronomy 25:5-10). The Catholic Church decided that multiple wives was adultery hundreds of years after Christianity had already been established. Martin Luther, the person who started the protestant reformation even wrote that polygeny was not a sin. Not to mention polygamy and polygyny is not the same. Polygyny is biblical and polygamy is not. Adultery is a married woman having sex outside of her marriage or married man having sex with a married woman. A married man having sex with a non-married woman is not adultery. If the sex is pointless and he's not going to then make that girl his wife or concubine which then requires the man to take care of all the women 100% then that's fornication.
As a Christian, I can honestly say that polygyny in general is not a sin. All the biblical arguments used against polygyny from other Christians (usually American Christians) are always based on emotional appeal. Again as stated earlier, all the Bible verse that specifically speak against having additional wives are for deacons, elders and pastors in the New testament and Kings in israel in the Old testament. If you want to bring up the current laws of the land in America that's one thing, but we all know American law isn't perfect. 2nd Chronicles 24:2-3 Jehoiada got two wives for king Joash. It literally says, "Joash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest". In 1st Corinthians 7 10-11, it literally says that wives can't take up a second husband if they leave their first husband but husbands just can't divorce their wives. It doesn't give any wife quantity restrictions on the husband, it just bars him from divorce. Obviously it's stated like that because some Christian husbands had second wives. your also saying a man with multiple wives that wants to convert to Christianity already would be committing fornication for having sex with any of his other wives after conversion which would mean he should divorce them which is false. Christians cant divorce wife except for in case of adultery (wife having sex outside of marriage or husband having sex with married woman is adultery. Husband having pointless sex with random unmarried women is fornication not adultery (Leviticus 20:10 shows that adultery can only happen with a married woman involved). 1 Corinthians 7:2 states "Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband." The original Greek word used for "own" when referring to husband in this verse is singular and the Greek word for "own" referring to the wife is plural. Two different Greek words both meaning "own" but the "own" used for the man (heautou) always means exclusive ownership and the "own" used for the woman (idios) can mean exclusive ownership, shared ownership, shared access or even someone belonging to another. That's dead iron proof that even paul considered polygyny as already apart of the marriage concept.
this is just one of those uncomfortable truths thats hard for the modern day christian to stomach due to the traditions of the world. like woman having to wrap there head in church for prayer and prophecy or women not being allowed to preach for another example. Feminism in the church has Christians blatantly ignoring those commands every Sunday.
"I confess that I cannot forbid a person to marry several wives, for it does not contradict the Scripture. If a man wishes to marry more than one wife he should be asked whether he is satisfied in his conscience that he may do so in accordance with the word of God. In such a case the civil authority has nothing to do in the matter." - Martin Luther
Exodus 21:10 - "If he takes another wife, he must not reduce the food, clothing, or marital rights of his first wife."
Matthew 5:32 "But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except [a]sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery." If a man divorces his wife unjustifiably, the divorce is not considered valid in the eyes of God so when she remarries, she commits adultery and anyone else who marries a women in that situation would be committing adultery. Jesus also gave the parable of 10 virgins in Matthew 25: 1 -13. 10 women going to marry one man and only 5 being prepared for the marriage with other 5 being rejected. It was referring to the church and the rapture/return of Chirst but the parable in itself shows that even Jesus recognized polygyny
Exodus 21:10 - "If he takes another wife, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her marriage rights."

But what about the scriptures he mentioned in the video? Like
      Deuteronomy 17:17
      • “He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.” Or was that only directed at Kings?
Other scriptures he mentioned? If all of the implications are that the original design is one wife for one man, wouldn’t that go against Gods word?
      Disobedience is a sin.
I hope you are 100% sure you know exactly what you’re talking about. The possibility in that you lead many people astray can come at a great cost.

@@lionedheartwe know that the deut 17:17 command was to kings, and specifically not to take many, (as in too many) because then they would have to spend so much time on these wives they can’t focus on God or being king. Secondly, God only made Adam and Eve because he doesn’t want to intervene more than absolutely required, he didn’t want to make any more humans than was required for them to reproduce, because he enjoyed and desired to see them populate the rest of the earth without him creating more than minimum. Also Romans 4:15 tells us if there’s no law against something there is no sin, that applies to this. Also one flesh just means literally that (flesh/sex) 1 Corinthians 6:15-16 (KJV) 15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make [them] the members of an harlot? God forbid. 16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
You can be joined to a harlot! That you don’t marry! Furthermore the requirement for bishops to be the husband of “one wife” is either not to be taken how it looks (read the gotquestions article about the meaning of it) and even if it is literal, it would be a command only given to church leadership so that they can have one wife to avoid sexual immorality, and stop there to put a lot of focus on the ministry. If you have any questions add my discord Scheme2 or reply here! God bless you. Polygyny is biblically allowed but if it sounds weird to you just don’t do it! Don’t falsely call others sinners.

@@lionedheartYou are so right. The will of God is for one man and one wife and vice versa. But there are those who take passages out of context in order to justify polygamy. However that is against the will of God. And the Bible, Old and New Testaments, is so clear in this position. It doesn't really matter how much one studies the Bible if they don't study with the singular focus of putting God's will first and being open to the direction of the Holy Spirit. Studying just to support one's position is totally wrong. That is what the enemy wants us to do. There can never be any true understanding of God's Holy Word if we are set on our own desire. True wisdom can only come when His will is our focus.

@@lionedheartthis "what about" game eh? "What about" the scripture references mentioned here in response to the video?? Or "what about" the chances of you being intrinsicly biased towards this topic? As the bible clearly is not explicit against the practice. What he mentioned about David's fall was not about polygyny that was about fornication and adultery, which btw is absolutly seperate. Solomon's fall was due to idolatry and clearly he had wives from foreign lands that worshipped statues they also were idolaters. That was their sin. It never stated that God was ever displeased with his polygynous lifestyle. The ONLY time God appeared to be displeased was when he started worshipping foreign gods. That being said neither of the examples in the video with David and Solomon had nothing to do with polygyny. It was David- lust, fornication and somewhat murder ; Solomon - idolatry. When was polygyny their sin??
To address the same det 17:17 scripture... As the previous person mentioned "many" is suggested for the sole purpose of having too many wives to the point where you forget and lose time for God and your duties and hence being 'led astray'. This same phenomen eventually happened to even Solomon where he was led astray by his women from foreign lands.
"What about" the second part of that same scripture 'neither shall he multiply himself silver and gold' this is in reference to wealth. Should I interpret this that because I am Christian I must not invest honourably in accumulating more money to have My family taken care of, comfortable and fed?? Should Christians even invest and financially improve themself based on Det 17:17?? I think not. Again the same principle applies you should be able to improve financially but if this takes away from God well again you Will be 'led astray'
God himself said "I am a jealous God" so the scriptures can be interpreted to understand why what is said is said.

Why are you bringing up David’s punishment from committing adultery (explicitly and repeatedly condemned in the Bible) and trying to conflate that with his polygyny? If his polygyny was the issue then why would God say in 2 Samuel 12:8 that he had given David multiple wives, would have given him more if David had asked? There are plenty of more scripture that go against your claims in the video.

@@djidjine5082Your reasoning doesn’t have any logic. I sit somewhere in the middle as im doing research to figure things out as to what is true.
Eve was more than sufficient to populate the Earth and start multiple lineages. They lived for almost 1,000 years. They had enough time to give birth to many children. Also, Adam and Eve are very unique human beings. As they were the first humans created without “sin”, first to disobey, etc.
Having multiple wives is like being committed to multiple sisters, since all of our lineages leads directly to Adam and Eve.
Exodus 21:10 “If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, or her marital rights.”
Many of the passages mention in this video are for the KINGS.
It’s also speculated that Moses had two wives. Dont quote me on it, do your own research
Another thing to add, it’s going to be literally impossible to follow every single word the bible says. We are born into sin. Which why Jesus Christ died on the cross. We are saves through his grace by having faith in him. Of course we must show proof of work by battling within ourselves to follow his word and asking forgiveness in prayer. Spreading Gods word so that people may find salvation through Jesus Christ.

YHVH gave David multiple wifes read it it’s there when prophet Nathan rebuked him because of the sin of he committed at the time. Brother be careful because that same thinking let you to believe a muslin with multiple wife’s can’t be saved or he has to divorce and stay with only one and God hate’s divorce. Don’t fight God on this one. Jesus will reveal it to you if you ask. Me personally I wouldn’t recommend to anyone to marry or just bring it to the table.

@1:51 Matthew 19 is talking about divorce. Divorce and polygyny are not synonymous. Divorce is the breaking of a covenant. Divorce was already condemned by Jesus in Matthew 5. In Malachi 2:16 the Lord says “For I hate divorce.” So Jesus condemning divorce was not the complete 180 that Christians try to make it seem it was. None of the 3 things I just mentioned against divorce apply to polygyny so why are we using Matthew 19:4-6 against polygyny when a question about divorce was asked in Matthew 19:3. It’s dishonest and misleading.

God overlooked polygamy in the Old Testament because Christ had not yet been revealed. This is not something we should take lightly because it’s a heaven or hell. Jesus said to the Sadducees that Moses allowed the Israelites to divorce their wives because of the harness of their hearts but in the beginning it wasn’t so. In the New Testament it says a bishop is supposed to be the husband of one wife, why would God put that standard on bishops but not all Christians in general? A bishop is a church leader and is meant to set an example to other Christians.

    • @earnyourgold
      @earnyourgold ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Repent-j3m your first statement is not the Bible. It’s a baseless assertion. Your question asking “Why would God put that standard on bishops and not all Christians in general?” actually goes against your stance because why wouldn’t he simply say it was a sin for all Christians (like he does with literally every other other sin) since that would also include bishops anyways? Why single out bishops when he didn’t do that for fornication, adultery, drunkenness, lying, witchcraft, envy, etc. You have no answer for that. My answer for your question is that having multiple wives was a huge time commitment and could take your focus away from your duties as a bishop/overseer. Paul references how a wife require extra attention that single people do not have to give away. A man with multiple may not have the time to split between all of his responsibilities. Every restriction put on a leader is not for everyone. Levite priests could only marry virgins. That didn’t apply to the rest of Israel.

To be a deacon in the church requires for a man to have one wife. And Paul said whoever seeks to be a deacon seeks a good thing as a calling. The simple truth, however, is that some people have ended up being tied to more than one person. My understanding is that Jesus said that no one shall divorce accept on accounts of sexual immorality - fornication, the breakage of a bond - because at this time, someone has already committed adultery and so there’s a bit of a freeing to that person to continue on with their next partner, although the initiation of it was immoral. So it is liberating in that sense. However, it is also my understanding that the Lord God hates divorce. (and institutes marriage.) He commands us not to commit adultery. My question is: if someone had had multiple partners, as a man, does that make him a husband to multiple wives? Obviously in scripture we see this. But because of jealousy, adultery, and the pains that follow, God says for man to love his wife. In fact, the scripture says, in English: husbands love your wives. But just remember that this shouldn’t give men license to commit further adultery.

You start off with the misunderstanding that you can only be one flesh with one woman. 1 Corinthians 6:16 clearly states that a man that has sex with a prostitute becomes one flesh with her. The prostitute has surely slept with other men and that verse does not only apply to virgin men. If the one-flesh principle is an exclusive thing only for one wife how would you explain that first? Be careful throwing around the term demonic when both God the Father and God the Son described themselves as polygynous.

If the one-flesh principle meant what Pastor Lorenzo is trying to say it means then he would’ve have said it regarding a prostitute that the man isn’t even marrying. We have to use every mention of “one-flesh” to understand its meaning and not just stick to the one that allows us to keep whatever preexisting doctrine we have. That’s eisegesis not exegesis

    • @Polygyny
      @Polygyny ปีที่แล้ว

@CrooKdLetterJ you do realise men acquired wives in the Bible for reasons other than sex right? Men marry more wives for political stability (e.g. King Solomon - Solomon just went too far with it), first wife is barren (every man has a right to have children and a barren wife isn't a reason to not take on more women if able to ensure the man's name lives on), build an empire, wealth and resources. So yeah polygyny is legitimately valid scripturally.
Plenty of men are able to commit to more than one woman - the requirement for faithfulness for men to his wife or wives (see Exodus) is not sexual exclusivity but FOOD, SHELTER and regular SEX - a man with means, ability and desire can fully commit to multiple women. A woman was created for the man, not the man for the woman as the Bible clearly states (1 Corinthians 11:9)
A man can even go through their lifetime without a wife or sex (so your point that men necessarily NEED a wife is actually pretty false). A wife is a pleasant for any man but not always necessity and plenty of men are doing just fine - I'm not advocating for sinful celibacy/singleness here
Always remember there is no sin where there is no law and there is no law against polygyny - God's laws are pretty clear and to add to it God doesn't look kindly on as expressed in both the "Old" and "New" Testaments (the covenant never changed just the mediator (Moses ➡️ Jesus) 👍

So you are starting off with a Straw Man! Just because people did it, doesn't make it right, of course, BUT the fact that they did so AND YET there is not even a hint of condemnation for them doing so, is all the proof that we really need. You see you left out that last par about God NEVER saying "Thou shalt not".

You got good intentions but your words are not structured. too many opinions and less facts and constantly diverting away from your train of thought and the topic.

Good intentions, but he is employing Eisegesis all over the place. He is starting off with the false premise that it is wrong instead of reading the Scriptures to determine if this is what they actually say.

    You said
“ if God hates divorce, God hate’s polygamy”
    You absolutely wrong.
Paul was only ADVISING as you agreed.
One man to one woman with Adam and Eve was before sin.
Adam and Eve did not kill animals to eat so unless we do because we are not in a perfect world.
The perfect God loves all. Jesus Didn’t marry. Paul advised to stay single 😂.
God was literally giving David more wives and said David could have as many as needed.
One wife has many problems and causes divorces so don’t pretend like it’s better than many.
God made each man to love as many wives as he was conditioned to love. Some men 0 other men many.
Islam was smart enough to keep that tradition of God so they can spread Islam by having more children. Christianity now has been tricked into 1 wife and less children while Muslims multiply.
Gotta read the Bible again. God confirms everything 3 times minimum that’s right for us.
David a man after Gods own heart to love many women, sadly he was a sorry father

Im glad you have the fortitude to go against Islam. Sahih Muslim 2143 says the most vile and wretched on Judgment Day is the one called the King og Kings. We all know who has the robes that say King of Kings, Lord of Lords. I converted a Muslim by birth this way while in prison. Dropped Islam like a hot potato.

Praise God you have come into His family. However, Scripture NEVER forbids someone who is not a bishop, deacon, or elder from having more than one wife.

  • @olaf9093

During those times the Lord God allowed them to have many wives so that they will be able to expand the lineage that follows the true God, and marriages at the time acts as an alliance between families, for either economic and political reason, in a way it gave a purpose to spread the influence of the true Living God. Today we have to stick to one we don't live on those days anymore were kingdoms battle for expansion and power.

    • @Polygyny
      @Polygyny ปีที่แล้ว

No where did the Lord God suddenly change from many wives to just one (after male nature and their role - that God created - changed over night)
If you still believe this then you believe that God is hypocrite who broke His own law by marrying two wives Israel and Judah (Ezekiel and Jeremiah) of whom he created a new covenant after the ressurection of Christ Jesus
Adding gynocentrism to scripture is not a good look

You would think that we could expand His kingdom faster if we would realize that God STILL allows it today. It is His kingdom that will rule one day.
