    A thousand times over, tube baits are my favorites. None of my buddies will touch ‘em, and I’m constantly killing it with tubes on jig heads, texas or carolina-rigged.

    Even the little crappie tube jigs work good too. I’ve accidentally fought several over 5 lb bass while crappie fishing this year.

      Sweet, just goes to show that downsizing is often the ticket to getting bit and can produce big fish too. Thanks for sharing.

    Largmouth seem to love a red tube bait, I would assume it's because it looks so much like a craw. You can also try sliding a curl tail worm into it and texas rigging. It's a bit tricky but I've caught some of my best bass doing that.

      I buy all of my soft baits that way, and i probably have the same bucket... I am sold on tubes but i will share a trick you may or may not have heard of before... I go to the local big name pharmacy and buy a box of 100 pairs of soft foam ear plugs, which i then take home and soak in a scent attractant Then i insert the scent soaked soft foam ear plug into the center of the tube and Texas right the tube which wil cause the tube to want to float up off the bottom . I am Killing'em finesse fishing bank lines, and it is deathly on a Carolina rig... I am a tube convert and i am sure you wil be too... Good Fishing Dude..

    A tube completely shocks people when I fish them. They are a secret bait at this point and my favorite thing it to chuck them out and crack them hard off the bottom and then let it fall. I love to Texas rig them a lot too in grass and do basically the same thing just with a trokar tube hook.

Also let me add I dont target Bass untill the crappie bite is finished, so I look for the reaction bite

    I live in East Tennessee and gush the little pigeon river. Mainly 1-3ft deep, usually clear expect in the heavy flow areas. I Wade, and the river bottom isn't rock but a stalagmite type of bottom and I've lost MANY lures. What recommendation would you suggest to through them Wright and size wise? Thank you for any help

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We'd suggest trying a light head light a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce. A little head will result in a more buoyant tube with a slower fall rate and minimize bottom snagging.

      I'm from SW Missouri, and fish the lakes around here, Table Rock, Stockton and Pomme de Terre, mostly. I've used tubes for smallies and largemouth on tubes or git zits we called them in the mid 90's. I also lately, have been going to visit my son Westin, who lives in Portland Oregon. So, we've fished tubes in the Willamette and Columbia Rivers for almost entirely smallmouth bass. In river fishing, Mark is exactly right as well in real clear or fairly clear rocky lakes. If I've had problems snagging too much in Oregon, I'll use a 1/2 down to a 3/8 ths oz. and a weedless jig with a piano wire type weed card. Don't ever get hung up, or at least very seldom. hope this helps. tight lines.

      I also live in Idaho on the border of Oregon and fish the Payette and Snake religiously. You can have a great day using a variety of different lures depending on the time of year but you will catch giant smallies all year on a tube. Depth, color and your tube technique can all still come into play depending on the season as well but you can successfully fish for big smallmouth year round with a 3 1/2" - 5" tube. I have never caught them fishing it aggressively like zona . It's typically a slow to medium retrieve with your own pattern as long as its consistent. Last weekend was on river for 2 days only about 4 hours a day, caught 10 - 15 fish a day nothing under 12-14" caught a 4.2 the first day and a 4.7 the second day with consistent 2 and 3 pounders every one of them on a dry creek snake river craw tube and a pumpkin s&p .

    When do you prefer a smaller tube and weight?

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really fishery and situationally dependent. For largemouth bass in a flipping and pitching scenario, a 4'' tube is a go-to. For smallmouth, 2.5 to 3-inch tubes often get bit more. Heavy heads and fast fall rates perform best in warm water whereas slower fall rates tend to excel when fish are in a negative mood or in colder water. Ultimately though, it's an experimentation game.

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Craig, a Medium Power fast action rod will do the trick - plenty of power but with some tip for working the bait and feeling the bass. Medium Heavy spinning rods can run a bit stiff for this application.

      Hey Siloe, you're not going to go wrong with anything in the shades of brown and green with green pumpkin probably being the most consistent all-around producer. Keep an eye out for crawfish or the bass coughing crawfish parts and match your plastics to that.

  • @jpvand1
    @jpvand1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    How’s this “heavy tube” technique do for largemouth?

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be an excellent producer for largemouth too, particularly when they're related to hard bottom areas. It's an erratic action so it tends to produce best where the fish can see the bait -- clear to moderately clear waters.
