I met Chuck back in '85 when he had his shop in Upland,CA. I drew the phantom view of his 550 for the brochure when I was a student at Art Center College. He was just completing car #75 and gave me a thrilling fast ride it his own car with a racing VW motor in it. I came back later and he was building his 911 powered car with a double tubed chassis. Great guy and I'm happy to see he and his son are doing well.
Ordered my Beck Spyder last week. In about 2 years from now (July 2023) I should be taking delivery. Big thanks to the Becks and Hines for their continued commitment. They build the stuff dreams are made of.
What was the process like? And if you don't mind telling us what the cost was. I want to order one as well and have it for my 50th birthday as a gift to myself.
What I love most about this and the other Chuck beck video, is that he and his son seem so genuine. Chuck is a living legend. He could tell you guys to get bent, but instead they trailer a car for you to do a video on. Chuck seems so happy to not only tell a story or two, but show off his passion. He seems to enjoy it as much as you guys do. I love watching these videos, and thanks to Chuck and his son for allowing us such an intimate look at their cars. Great video guys.
My dad bought a Beck in Santa Clara CA in 1989 from the Beck dealer at the local gas station. A few years later when he had moved to Menlo Park he had a get together with other locals at his home, 4 or 5 Becks present. Dad was proud that he finagled a real Beck bonnet emblem away from Chuck.
I grew up on a farm driving VW Beetles since I was seven. I can only imagine how much fun it is to have a mid ship air cooled 120hp motor in a 1200 pound car. There is nothing so fun as a purely analogue light stick shift car. This one also looks terrific. I doubt they can be brought into Canada, but if so it just replaced the Shelby AC Cobra as my dream ride.
So... as Mr. Beck recited the figures, we weren’t prepared for exactly how the car would be. It was an experience that compares to nothing outside of the original. It tops our list of impractical cars to own.
@@DepreciationNation Yes. It is a little like owning 4 cyl Yammaha XS 1100 Special for many years. Sudden death if something goes wrong. Fair weather motoring only for a couple months each year in Toronto. But it delivered the most memorable driving experiences. Thank God I lived and sold it on.
7 years ago I was at Cars 'n Coffee in Atlanta. I had just moved there. I pulled my 550 Spyder up to others in the lot. I introduced myself. I said, "Hi, I am Chas". He said "Hi I am Chuck". Another owner told me his last name. I about fainted. I then secured his autograph.
The guy I sold mine to, in Arizona tried to take me to Court, because it wasn't able to pass smog. in Arizona, and In Cailifornia it was registered as Special Construction, and no one wanted to insure it. It ran Hot all the time and didn't handle as well as My Honda accord. 16 seconds in the quarter mile, at 87 MPH...I was in it 19K in 1987, and sold it for 13K...so no harm,no foul.... I wanted one at age 11, and bought it at age 43.
@@jackjohnsen8506 Great car the 550. I've owned 8 Porsche cars. NOTHING turned heads and attention and questions than my 550. I sold it last year and miss it.
I want this car ! 😍 the problem here in France is to have the right papers to drive it. There are some Beck Spyders here, be patient to hope to buy one
It has truly been an honor and privilege to say we know Mr. Beck. He’s the most humble and charismatic individual we’ve met. We have a few more videos planned with Mr. Beck and his amazing cars. Stay tuned…
I had beek's kid build me a car, in 1987, and it was not what I thought, as It was not that fast, with 100 HP built VW engine, about 16 seconds in the quarter mile, and ran hot in anything but cold weather. paid 19 k ALL IN, and sold it four years later for 13k, in a bad market. Every one has one for about 5000 miles and then wants out, as it can't be seen well and was a Death TRAP IN NORMAL TRAFFIC, "The happiest day was when you bought it, succeed by the day you sold it" just like when talking about small Boats. The car in this Video, had 135 hp, and that made it a 13 second car...
The cars are impractical but I was pleased with the experience and… it remains the coolest “let’s go get ice cream” care I’ve sampled to date. Thanks for watching!
Painful to keep hearing you guys pronounce it Porsch (one syllable) instead of Porsche (Por-sha) two syllables. Do you also say Shellb instead of Shelby (shell-bee)? Ugh.

Congratulations!!! We’d love to have one ourselves… what color combo did you select?

They are very genuine individuals. We cannot say enough nice things about their family.

That is a great story! Bought one from a gas station? How cool!
Wow, I'm super impressed.
Beautiful car!! Mr. Beck is a one of a kind, amazing man!!! I’m so envious!!!!
Thank you!
Chuck lives in my hometown and is the nicest guy. He's truly a living legend, and you'd never know it because he's so humble.
Mr. Beck could teach everyone a lesson in humility. Thank you for watching.
I enjoyed the virtual ride along....nice classic car
Thank you
Tall people look really ridiculous in a 550. That car was made for those of us under 66.”
Great video! Beautiful car!
One of my favorite guys MR. BECK!!!! A TRUE LEGEND! GREAT video but even better car!! 👌🏽👍🏽
Thank you!
Such a pretty and complete driving car..Would love one..!
It’s truly an experience like no other!
Not after you bought one, I did....
Delightful video!

The Beck 550 Spyder more smiles per miles!
We couldn’t agree more!

The car is certainly worth the wait. Top of my list for cars I’d like to own!
What a legend to have in the studio. Beck Sr. Love his old school vibe. Calls this car the little prick.haha

I’m saving up now hopefully next year
There’s a waiting list now. They’re worth the wait.
Ok thank you
How much ate they?
Approx 50k finished in your spec. 2 year waiting list.
45 to 75 grand
Shouldn’t the key start on the Beck be on the left side?
Original 550 Spyder cars had the key on the right side from Porsche. Just emulating what was already done.
@@DepreciationNationI did not know that, thanks for the clarification👍🏻
Kyle looks like you don't wanna give up the car buddy 😂😂
Maybe...
Awe vid!!!
Thank you!!!
Awesome !
Thank you... glad you enjoyed it.
Is it true they swap ends in a blink?
We didn’t experience anything that felt close to swapping ends in our time behind the wheel.

I read one just sold on bring a trailer for 54,000
They do seem to hold value very well…

That’s how the location pronounces it. I’ll try to get it right next time.
Why’s that guy wearing a mask?
Filmed during the height of COVID.
