My teacher Chris Buckle read the hobbit to us at Primary school in 1978. I was 9 years old and we would all lounge on a big pile of cushions during story time. He always managed to stop at a critical point and leave us wanting to hear more.
I’m still mad for Middle Earth in my 50’s. Thank you Chris and thank you Tolkien.
I listenes to the audiobook and it was the greatest audiobook experience I have ever had.

The Riddles in the Dark chapter is a masterpiece... Now I will never be able to read that chapter if it's not along with Andy's portrayal

His love both the book and the role as Gollum shines through in the recording. You can hear him smile through the recording when Gollum appears
Audiobooks are the modern version of how families used to gather around the one-speaker analog radio in the family sitting room at night and listen to late-night broadcasts; broadcasters used to read stories on the radio.
Please do Unfinished Tales Next! As it's the only Tolkien book to not have a high-quality audiobook. I know it's not an ideal one but it's such a great collection of works which I would love to have an offical audiobook copy for!
This was probably the best audiobook I have ever expeienced and for me is the best way to experience the timeless classic that is the Hobbit. I really hope to see him do the Lord of the Rings or The Silmarillion, it would be a great service to those novels and their accessability outside the films (Especially The Silmarillion).

just finished the audiobook... i simply can't express how blown away i was by serkis's performance at the same time being blown away by hearing tolkien's story for the first time.

For me no one will ever top the Rob Inglis audiobook versions of the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings they are just perfect in every way but I bet this will be great in its own right .
listened to his audio recording. i had no clue who he was to be honest. amazing books, movies, etc. the appeal to me 20 years later is all the backstory.
I'm only 10 minutes into the audiobook and I already love it. I usually listen to audiobooks at double speed or more, but I can't seem to do that here. I find I love the way he performs too much.
Was the best audiobook version of the Hobbit I have ever heard truly loved it.
I'd love it if Mr. Serkis could narrate The Lord of the Rings too! I just started listening to The Hobbit for the first time since I was about 10, and was thinking "strooth this reader is incredible!!" ...didn't realize at the time it was Andy Serkis :D (edit: Martin Shaw read my old copy but it was abridged!)

There is literally nothing better than this reading of LoTR. Absolutely amazing. If he wants to do the Silmarillion, I will buuuuyyy that too! Haha. Keep up the hard work!

Overall, I guess The Hobbit is my favourite movie. In terms of books... Harder to say it but probably the Hobbit also wins. Because the whole atmosphere is not as heavy, there is not as much impending doom. I often feel like The Hobbit is the fun, younger brother in the family.

Just Bought rob inglis lord of the rings unabridged version almost bought the hobbit of Rob to til I saw Andy version if he does an other version of lord of the rings I wil buy them again 🙈
I just found out from another commenter: Andy Serkis is reading LOTR and the full versions will be released on Audible on Sep 16!!! I pre-ordered them already, this is insanely exciting :D (I love LOTR but the Rob Inglis narration has never grabbed me, nor did the BBC dramatized version. Andy Serkis version of LOTR will be one of the greatest audiobooks ever!!!!!!) ^_^

0:48 I don’t think he was reading the Alan Lee illustrated edition of the Hobbit when he was 9. As far as I’m aware, that wasn’t published earlier than 1997.

Andy is Awesome as Gollum in The Hobbit Film and Lord of the Rings Films. Would be great to hear him read Lord of the Rings aswell. When i found the Hobbit Audiobook on Amazon i just had to get it. Been in love with Tolkien books Since i was 18 years old. So half my life time. Smile.
