The reload you see for the AKS is called, or so the internet calls it, the "Iraqi reload". The actual function of it wasn't just to reload quicker, but due to the wide variety of AK magazines the Iraqis could get their hands on. Everything from the most modern recently manufactured magazines to beat up magazines from the 70s. This reload essentially ensures that the magazine seats properly and that a round actually chambers, thus lessening the chance of a malfunction.

It’s Activision and Infinity Ward that are to blame. They could have done this right and gave him something to be happy and proud of, instead they made some very strange design choices.
Jonathan really should take another look at Hot Dogs, Horseshoes, and Hand Grenades. The developer has added a ton more interesting weapons that I'd love to see his take on, including the utterly cursed Cobray Terminator. Plus, they have what I'm guessing is a much more faithful EM2 rifle.
@@TheDark4557 Honestly considering there are now 300+ guns in the game there's really several episodes worth of content to be had. As to your point, that opens a couple interesting possibilities. If it's a weapon in the RA collection, he can compare the "feel" as well as the look. If it's something interesting that isn't in the collection (looking at you, Ultimax 100), he gets to geek out over handling something new.

that one was spot on, reminded me so much of the old BBC SAS documentaries from the early noughties. all the mw19 version was missing to replicate that look was the hk double mag clamp with red tape tied around it. there's still a glimmer of hope for the mw22 mp5, in the beta I got a bugged unlock notification for something called a nebula barrel which looks like it might be the sd barrel.

Yeah I absolutely despise the iron sight too, you wouldn’t think it would be a big deal but when you cut the HK irons in half it makes the gun SIGNIFICANTLY uglier.
I think their hope is to alter them slightly with each new game to help make them more "OC do not steal" bit by bit, until they're far enough away from the thing they're based off of that they can copyright them, but still related enough in peoples mind that they can capitalize off of iconic designs.
I'm guessing it's the same reason MGSV did the same, breaking tradition. When you're allowed to really customize and in all honesty, mangle certain guns, manufacturers don't take too kindly to that.

Although not a Marlin, I had a Remington .35 lever action rifle and with some practice, you can eject and catch the round *most* of the time. The round tends to tumble in the air and catching it becomes unpredictable. Still, you can do it easy enough. Doing it enough times tarnishes the brass real quick though from your fingerprints and sweat.
The thing that bugs me a lot is when they ejected a round to inspect and just casually putting that round back into the chamber while the magazine tube still has rounds in it. Which should have been pushed up to the chamber after the ejection
You should have him look at Post Scriptum or Beyond the Wire. I'd especially like to see him compare PS and HLL and which he thinks is closer to real life (I think it'd be Post Scriptum considering it's a MilSim and is much more detailed).
1:56 It's to make sure that the round is properly chambered after the magazine is inserted because where the reload is invented, the magazines are usually of questionable quality it is done for this reason
AKS-74U (and the fullsize AK74 variant) use the Iraqi reload, something used in warzones where the quality of the rifles/magazines is questionable and manufacturing tolerances mean that loading the full magazine onto the closed bolt might prevent loading once cycled. probably picked purely for diversity of animations. interesting note: the fast hands perk on those rifles changes this to a normal reload sequence
Johnathan forgot to mention that if you do a cowboy reload like that with the smith & Wesson 500 it’ll be the last time you reload it because the weight of the cylinder slamming into the cylinder stop bar will snap it off.
I mean, the cylinder has to withstand an insane amount of pressure in a "handgun" format, so it would make sense that it's heavy enough to just break the mechanism
If they don't patch in a little monkey sound effect for the revolvers then I'll be extremely disappointed, make it a random chance to happen like in Battlefield Hardline, Jonathan deserves to be given tribute in games!
Ignoring the strange name changes, the weapons are surprisingly high in detail. As long as you don't butcher the attachments, you could have a convincing recreation of IRL weapons.

Because they created their own arms manufacturing companies in universe, like Lachman, XRK or Bruen, I think they just took inspiration from real weapans, but remodeled them to create a kinda, more connected universe thats very close to reality, but its own entity

I guess licensing isn't a huge deal and you could always run into legal issues when copying a gun because there might be some design patterns that have been protected. So for example H&K could see the charging handle as a distinct design pattern they might have patented or protected and thus if you build a gun featuring this handle might violate this. Apple is a very prominent example of protecting patterns in such a way. ...but I might be wrong.
I think the AR57 in the game is based off PSA's new model. Would probably be pretty easy for your Armory to get. The uppers are only like $600 and fit on any standard AR 15 lower.
I feel most guns in this game are on the edge of cursed. It is nowhere near as awefull as the previous game but I do kit out the weapons agains my liking just for those weird bonusses. Take for example the laser, it apparently makes you run faster.

3:28 surprised you didn't comment on the charging handle being a normal AR 15 style, where as the real AR 57 has it on the opposite side of the bold catch/release, and I don't believe the a AR 15 charging handle would function on the AR 57 considering it would be at a nub's length and the bolt being under the mag. Edit: or the fact that it's a carbine in the SMG category. much like the AKS-74u was up-until MW2-2022
It would be interesting to see Jonathan react to more Payday 2 guns. They recently added versions of a concept Metal Storm weapon and the Vollmer HK 51-B.
It's been annoying/exhausting to hear everyone continuously saying "that's not realistic", if it was realistic, you'd be doing PT and washing vehicles all day while complaining about the weather.
Fun fact; the AR 5-7 keeps the magazine well of the AR it was made out of and repurposes it into the ejection port! Ejects out the bottom like the P90.

I own 2 marlins; 1895/ 45-70 and 1894/ .357. In order to catch that ejected cartridge, you'd have to have a sharp eye and reflexes, both of which I lack 😅
Please Jonathan, made a video on *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* weapons. (Please like the comment so gamespot can finally see it) So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher and Eva's chinese mauser clone. There are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3 so please gamespot and Johnathan make a video that isnt just more call of duty or tarkov (as much as I love those series) it just feels stale now revisiting the same games for multiple videos.
CoD's desire to make real guns only to then slightly alter them in recent games is I guess understandable. They've been making the same weapons game-in game-out for a millennia now. I predict we're gonna see a gradual evolution-like change in CoD guns; bit of creative license here, dash of "this looks cool" there, until the MP5 looks like something outta Warhammer 40k. Plus then they can copyright them and sell replica merch of their 'Original character do not steal' guns, and make a Saturday morning cartoon starring the "iconic" anthropomorphized CoD guns. >__>
I built an AR57 just before the game released. It's an interesting gun and mine has the ambi rocker mag release with a side charge. Neat gun but the reload is a but awkward and tedious.
I have a Marlin 1895G and yeah, it can be done. I've also ejected a round from a semiauto pistol and caught it, it's not that difficult (but I'm left-handed, probably gives me an advantage with the pistol). And then, of course, there are those badass competition shotgun ppl that open the double gun, let the empties fly over their should, and catch them behind their back, I don't think I could do that without a LOT of practice, if ever.
Considering they changed the names of all these guns in the game implies they don't have the rights to use them.. which makes me think that a lot of these differences from the real guns are on purpose to avoid lawsuits.. still great video
Give this man the game and let him play with the gunsmith and review the guns that way sometimes. He's great already but let him see the attachments, weapon platforms, and firing range in this game
Yeah for some reason Infinity Ward really butchered the MP5 in this game when in Modern Warfare 2019 I think it's pretty faithful to what the MP5 should look like

The odd AKS74U reload is indeed a “real” thing. It’s called the Iraqi reload and supposedly it was used by Republican guard troops so they could keep a sight picture while loading. There are stories of it being taught to them by Soviet VDV advisors during the Iran-Iraq War, and then American troops noticing it during the 1991 and 2003 invasion. There is, however, little actual evidence to support this theory. More likely it was a reload used to manipulate the low quality, non standard AKs of the Iraqi army, some of which a magazine could not be inserted while the bolt was forward due to spec issues. Either way, it is an overall inferior way to reload an AK and requires far more mechanical precision than just doing it normally. I’m confused as to why it’s even in the game apart from just style points.
The reason they came up with it was because there were a lot of AK magazines that weren’t entirely in spec, meaning some magazines on some guns would push on the bolt so hard when locked in that it was difficult to impossible to rack the charging handle. So by pulling the charging handle back before inserting the magazine, they can bypass that problem. It’s only necessary in that circumstance and wouldn’t be used normally.
I hope for the next video you guys show him both the base weapon and maybe a vsriant/fast hands reload? Might be interesting since occasionally in other videos you've done it there.

I see he ignored the part where when reloading or chamber checking your guy slaps the forward assist on the M4/M16. To my knowledge based on people Ive spoken to who’ve trained on the rifle; thats a good way to jam your gun
The sight rail on the 74U would make it an AKS-74UN The "S" refers to it being foldable. The "U" refers to it being shortened. The N refers to the dovetail mount, originally used to fit night-vision sights. The reload technique used is referred to as an Iraqi reload. Presumably they invented it?
@@Dawn.tless. They were taught to do this because of differences in tolerances of magazines. Some wouldn't seat properly if the bolt was in battery. Pretty clever way of solving a problem
There is another belt-fed AR upper called the Fightlite MCR, which, I'm not sure if its the same, but you can dual feed with it, allowing the use of normal AR mags with it, much like some versions of the M249 SAW.
Something non gun people often mistake with a roller delay system, is how far the chamber sits into the gun. Worked at a gun store and a coworker shot a round into the floor cause a customer brought in an MP5 with a damaged extractor. He didn’t see into the chamber clearly and assumed it would be empty after removing the mag and cycling The bolt a few times
It'd be nice to see Jonathan break down the weapons of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, for me, specifically, I'd like to see him take a go at the Gunslinger mod for the third game in the series; Call of Pripyat.
I was disappointed that he didn't mention the AKs-74u is now depicted an Assault rifle instead of a SMG (which is clearly not) although in the real world, it's more of a PDW to say the least
I don't see why game devs don't just reach out and speak to people like Johnathan Ferguson and Ian McCollum to figure out ways to not make easily avoidable mistakes in their depictions of guns. It's not like it would cost them anything, and I'm sure Jonathan and Ian both would be more than happy to give them some friendly advice.
I don't like to see that Marlin all tacticool-ized like that but visually the model is beautiful. The finish on the receiver just looks so good. I wonder what Jonathan thinks of wood furniture conversions for MP5s (usually a cut-down version of a kit for a G3)

I own that Marlin 1895 SBL rifle (without the rails). You can catch the round when ejecting it. But I never even tried because I am not fancy like that 😂😂

I have to agree. I'd also love to see him react to the ModulAK, ModulAR and other modular weapon mods.
Also plenty of cursed guns, like a certain .50 BMG break action pistol with the best holographic sight in the game.

It's been annoying/exhausting to hear everyone continuously saying "that's not realistic", if it was realistic, you'd be doing PT and washing vehicles all day while complaining about the weather.
Fun fact; the AR 5-7 keeps the magazine well of the AR it was made out of and repurposes it into the ejection port! Ejects out the bottom like the P90.

I own 2 marlins; 1895/ 45-70 and 1894/ .357. In order to catch that ejected cartridge, you'd have to have a sharp eye and reflexes, both of which I lack 😅

So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher and Eva's chinese mauser clone.
There are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3 so please gamespot and Johnathan make a video that isnt just more call of duty or tarkov (as much as I love those series) it just feels stale now revisiting the same games for multiple videos.
CoD's desire to make real guns only to then slightly alter them in recent games is I guess understandable. They've been making the same weapons game-in game-out for a millennia now.
I predict we're gonna see a gradual evolution-like change in CoD guns; bit of creative license here, dash of "this looks cool" there, until the MP5 looks like something outta Warhammer 40k. Plus then they can copyright them and sell replica merch of their 'Original character do not steal' guns, and make a Saturday morning cartoon starring the "iconic" anthropomorphized CoD guns. >__>
I built an AR57 just before the game released. It's an interesting gun and mine has the ambi rocker mag release with a side charge. Neat gun but the reload is a but awkward and tedious.
I have a Marlin 1895G and yeah, it can be done. I've also ejected a round from a semiauto pistol and caught it, it's not that difficult (but I'm left-handed, probably gives me an advantage with the pistol). And then, of course, there are those badass competition shotgun ppl that open the double gun, let the empties fly over their should, and catch them behind their back, I don't think I could do that without a LOT of practice, if ever.
I now demand MW2 replace the Fast Hands perk with the Tactical Monkey perk, and yes, I want to see the monkey modeled in game helping you reload.

Considering they changed the names of all these guns in the game implies they don't have the rights to use them.. which makes me think that a lot of these differences from the real guns are on purpose to avoid lawsuits.. still great video
Give this man the game and let him play with the gunsmith and review the guns that way sometimes. He's great already but let him see the attachments, weapon platforms, and firing range in this game
Yeah for some reason Infinity Ward really butchered the MP5 in this game when in Modern Warfare 2019 I think it's pretty faithful to what the MP5 should look like

The reload is the Iraqi reload by the way. its extremely rare in video games as far as ive seen.
Can someone at GamesSpot point out to Jonathan that IW weren’t allowed to use the official designs and trademarks of the firearms because of the California law that was passed this year

The odd AKS74U reload is indeed a “real” thing. It’s called the Iraqi reload and supposedly it was used by Republican guard troops so they could keep a sight picture while loading. There are stories of it being taught to them by Soviet VDV advisors during the Iran-Iraq War, and then American troops noticing it during the 1991 and 2003 invasion.
There is, however, little actual evidence to support this theory. More likely it was a reload used to manipulate the low quality, non standard AKs of the Iraqi army, some of which a magazine could not be inserted while the bolt was forward due to spec issues. Either way, it is an overall inferior way to reload an AK and requires far more mechanical precision than just doing it normally. I’m confused as to why it’s even in the game apart from just style points.
He needs to do more mw2 guns. He has to, there is no other way.

For the AKS-74U, the reload is a real life technique called an Iraqi reload. I believe Iraq's army is the one who came up with it

The reason they came up with it was because there were a lot of AK magazines that weren’t entirely in spec, meaning some magazines on some guns would push on the bolt so hard when locked in that it was difficult to impossible to rack the charging handle. So by pulling the charging handle back before inserting the magazine, they can bypass that problem.
It’s only necessary in that circumstance and wouldn’t be used normally.
A .338 muzzle brake on a 45-70 rifle would be a very bad day for the shooter... When it comes to bullets, size matters.

Jonathan should take a look at the guns of the Metal Gear Solid games, especially MGSV with its weapon customization system.
I do believe you can get revolvers in .410, which would explain why rhe "snake shot" is so stupidly powerful on the twin Basilisks.

I see he ignored the part where when reloading or chamber checking your guy slaps the forward assist on the M4/M16. To my knowledge based on people Ive spoken to who’ve trained on the rifle; thats a good way to jam your gun

The "S" refers to it being foldable. The "U" refers to it being shortened. The N refers to the dovetail mount, originally used to fit night-vision sights.
The reload technique used is referred to as an Iraqi reload. Presumably they invented it?

@@Dawn.tless. They were taught to do this because of differences in tolerances of magazines. Some wouldn't seat properly if the bolt was in battery. Pretty clever way of solving a problem

The AKS reload is based on the Iraqi Action reload, idk if Iraqis actually used the reload but soldiers stationed there have witnessed it
There is another belt-fed AR upper called the Fightlite MCR, which, I'm not sure if its the same, but you can dual feed with it, allowing the use of normal AR mags with it, much like some versions of the M249 SAW.

All of the guns are not accurately portrayed because of california laws.
Something non gun people often mistake with a roller delay system, is how far the chamber sits into the gun. Worked at a gun store and a coworker shot a round into the floor cause a customer brought in an MP5 with a damaged extractor. He didn’t see into the chamber clearly and assumed it would be empty after removing the mag and cycling

That reload with the aks-74u is called an Iraqi reload. It's not very useful outside of flashiness...if you think that's cool
It'd be nice to see Jonathan break down the weapons of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, for me, specifically, I'd like to see him take a go at the Gunslinger mod for the third game in the series; Call of Pripyat.
I think u should check out terminator resistance game to see their weapons or check out the metro games

I was disappointed that he didn't mention the AKs-74u is now depicted an Assault rifle instead of a SMG (which is clearly not) although in the real world, it's more of a PDW to say the least

I never knew that was an actual 2nd mag catch on the MP5; that's crazy.
I don't see why game devs don't just reach out and speak to people like Johnathan Ferguson and Ian McCollum to figure out ways to not make easily avoidable mistakes in their depictions of guns. It's not like it would cost them anything, and I'm sure Jonathan and Ian both would be more than happy to give them some friendly advice.

i know with some guns in this game, they ran into a lot of legal issues with copyright and everything so they aren’t super accurate to the real world counterpart

I own that Marlin 1895 SBL rifle (without the rails). You can catch the round when ejecting it. But I never even tried because I am not fancy like that 😂😂
