  • At my birthday I was gifted with a beautiful night sky! Time to get my rig out and running and to get the first light onto the sensor of my Canon EOS 6D full frame camera. How does the Sky Watcher HEQ5 Pro and the William Optics Zenithstar 73/430 perform? Will I be able to get a good polar and 2 star alignment and how does the SynScan App work?
    Time to answer those questions!

5:40 With the issue of the focus locking screw, you could always loosen the mounting clamps on the scope and rotate the scope so that the screw is sticking out sidewise or is on top. That would give you better access to it. As long as you can rotate the camera on the scope, it shouldn't be an issue with framing.

I shall be following you closely. I have the same OTA, a Canon 60D astro modded and will shortly be getting a re-engineered HEQ5 from Darkframe Optics in the UK. I already run StellarMate (Kstars / EKOS) for mount control.

Thank you! And yes, I have looked into it and it is really impressive. You will see in one of my next videos that I have chosen something very similar but home made :-)

N.I.N.A does all that and it's free. Only downside is it's not for RasPi. But it works with any camera.

PLEASE don't get yourself locked in the ASI Air prison!!! That is a black hole!
Not only will it limit your future choices on equipment, they are illegally using Open Source GPL license software that is harming the hobby as a whole.
There are plenty of other choices out there, NINA (nuc PC), Astroberry, Stellarmate (both on Rsdp Pi), APT (PC) just to name a few. Not only are these cheaper / better, they are truly better for the astro community!

@@poruatokinhello, yes totally agree with you, but for me the ease of use, no laptop, multitude of program's to learn, it's so easy to just plug and play.

Never had a problem with that. It is also more an estimate than a precise maneuver ;)
