  • There are a lot of different topwaters out there on the market. Make sure you throw the right one in the right situation!

    One of the best ways to catch bass during the summer is with a topwater. Not only is it one of the best ways, and probably the most fun, but you can also catch a fish of a lifetime on a topwater.
    However, if you go down the isle at your local tackle retailer you may be a little bit overwhelmed by all the topwaters there are and may not know when to throw which one.
    In this video I try to break down exactly when I like to use each topwater!

    Caught my PB on a black chompo, 7 pounds and caught a close second with a white popper. Love me some top water.

    Great info! I fish most of those baits and I LOVE TOP WATER FISHING!!! I learned to topwater fish for bass in the early 1960s. Primarily the devilhorse! It's perfect shape and size, and cadence produces water sounds bass can't refuse.But I'd use a carrot if I didn't have the real thing! I fish for bluegills on top water too: flyrod and poppers!!! I could write a book on fishing the devilhorse. There's fishing and then There's TOPWATER FISHING!!!

    Great video, as always. The Choppo seems to break all the rules of bass fishing. Seems to catch bass on every outing when other lures don't work.
    Have you used the new Hellrazor? I caught a few bass two weeks ago on it. A demo video on the popper techniques would be nice

    Wake baits, hula poppers, prop baits, jitterbug, floating worms, weedless spoons, rubber frogs... seems like there are more top water lures to try.
    Does anyone else think a choppo is just the newest version of a prop bait?

  • @blind_eye_fishing
    @blind_eye_fishing 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    The buzzbait does all the same when covering water as a plopper. Only true advantage ive fiund is you can stop and rip a plopper style bait where you cant a buzzbait. The buzzbait has a advantage on the plopper though by being more weedless and can be threw into sparce vegetation.

    I love the Berkeley Choppo but I have a big issue with fish hitting it and not getting hooked.
    Has anyone else noticed that? Should I change the hooks or slow down the retrieve, or is this an unavoidable problem?

      This is hard in thick, thick cover, but Lake fork tackle has a frog trailer hook! Single 1/0 with 2 little wires that go over your frog hooks. If I get short strikes, I throw it on n it definitely. Helps!

    You can also use a spinner or chatterbait as a pseudo topwater by burning it back just below the surface. Have got some decent fish like that

      I actually like to fish jointed swim baits like a barely sun-surface wake bait just an hour or so before topwater really turns on, cool to see someone w the same idea but different approach!

    tried a whopper plopper and love it. 2 weeks ago i caught 21 fish in about 4 hours on it( 1 blue catfish, 1 goggle eye and 19 bass). largest bass caught was about 4 lbs. i also got the choppo and sorry to say but i find the opposite to what he claims. when the WP hits the water and i start reeling the tail starts turning and will continue all the way. with my choppo it lands and will take a rotation or 2 of the reel before it starts turning good and after a couple more turns it seems like it stops. i have found that i have to hold my rod very high and as quickly as i can get all the line up out of the water for it to work right. the WP i dont have to do that.
