My sister is a professional bass trombone player and I thankfully got to watch this movie with her. She played all through college at a prestigious university and still does tons of gigs and performances. She was floored by how accurate this movie was. She recalled one of her first days with a band when one kid came in 30 seconds late and the director just said “get the f*** out” and they never saw him again. It’s not always that way but sometimes it’s just horribly cutthroat

The drumming you DO hear from the actual actors is terrible and if you actually listen to the final scene of his big solo there are drums and cymbals being played that are not present on the set at all. He's also moving and "hitting" at times where no such sound is occurring. Good acting and he does a great job with the role. I just don't want to praise him for something he didn't do that was Hollywood magic.
