Tesla Q4 earnings miss, warns about lower volume growth

- Tesla (TSLA) reported fourth quarter earnings that missed analyst estimates on both the top and bottom lines. The EV maker reported adjusted earnings of $0.71 per share, just shy of Street estimates of $0.73. Revenue of $25.17 billion also fell short of the $25.87 billion expectation. Tesla also warned that its vehicle volume growth rate in 2024 will be "notably lower" than in 2023.
RBC Capital Markets Lead Equity Analyst for Global Autos Tom Narayan says the "real story" in the results was "what they didn't say for 2024 guidance." "Not a lot of information there. Just that growth will slow. But we knew that," he says.
Narayan argues that issues such as price cuts impacting margins are "near-term dynamics." Ultimately, he argues, "This stock is not about the car business in 2024. It's about autonomy in 2035, 2040 and that's probably how the company thinks about the business."

EV's don't sell unless there are large Govt credits attached.
They're just too pricy compared to normal cars - and have a range problem and insurance cost problem.

I feel bad for Tesla investors watching the stock return to earth - while the rest of the market hits new highs every day. And Tesla has a long way down to hit a realistic price and PE.

Why I own many other stocks and will still hold Tesla. Possibly add if it gets low enough. I see it as an opportunity.

Tesla has so many active initiatives not supporting revenue generation in a measurable way and THIS MATTERS. So is this analyst suggesting investor bought into FSD believing they will not see revenue from this technology until 2040ish? That is ridiculous. Two vehicles are supporting meaningful revenue generation at Tesla (Model 3/Y) plus some battery storage tech. All the other initiatives are not generating meaningful cash flow and that is a problem. Based on Tesla history, the next volume vehicle will not enter the market until 2026/2027 but unlike the past, other manufacturers will be in that market segment and Tesla is playing catch-up. FSD is the only hope at the moment to distinguish it from other EV manufacturers and Tesla has shown NOTHING to support a production-ready level-5 autonomy product is imminent.
Didn’t you listen to the call? Optimus robots will build infinite cars for free = infinite money glitch! Who will build the Optimus robots and how much will they cost? Oh….

Ask any automaker if they would like to have 17% margin on EVs. They will say hell, I'd like to have ANY margin on EVs.

Take the tax credits away and the margins are 0
BYD wouldn't want to cut their gross margin to that. Automotive gross margin was 25.7% in 3Q (4Q yet to be announced)
And think about if the US goverment would not shield Tesla from the foreign competition in the US!

@@Kosher-uh9tm I am using my brain much more than you . Do you really think a stock has to go back to where it was last year just because ? Thats not how stocks work . I am not saying it couldn't go to 300$ but it needs catalysts or positive news , not crystal ball analysis . The margins are dropping and without tax credits they are actually 0% , the 4680 ramp up is much slower than promised years ago , Elon said dojo has a very low % chance to make it , 2024 will have no growth in vehicle deliveries compared to 2023 . Everything was bearish in the earnings , i am holding tesla shares and really hope you are right but i am looking at this objectivly
