I knew Sam back in Memphis in 1963 when we both were wild----Years later I read in a magazine that Sam got saved and I was overjoyed because I also trusted Jesus as my Savior------Thank you Lord
Sam's acceptance speech about responsibility is a truly great speech! From his heart, and spoken with profound truth and a reverance towards God. Marvelous! A fine American; humble gentleman, and a shining example for everyone!
This is an amazing video. Wooly Bully was a very popular song in my hometown. Sam & the Pharaohs were on television all the time for about a year. Classy guy!
Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs were one of the really fun bands from the mid-60's. ("Wooly Bully", "Little Red Riding Hood", etc.). Great to see him here with the wonderful Texas Tornados! RIP, Doug Sahm, Freddie Fender, and Oscar Tellez.
There is alot of truth what this man says in the begining! I just wish some leaders all over the world would have some balls to realize this and make some decent decisions before ruining it for the rest of us... Amen Sam !! ✌️👍
jonny chingas He’s listed as being of Mexican descent in Wikipedia, he lived in Panama for several years (I assume he spoke with people there), and he didn’t correct Paul when he called him Mexican 2 times. Excuse my assumption, but a link would be nice.
I did not know he was mexican I always thought he was Egyptian lol" since I was a kid everybody in our neighborhood love this song" what then i didnt understand why an Egyptian said 123 in Spanish lol" . Now I know cause he mexican" lol yay"
Why Sam and the Pharaohs are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a mystery to me! There are lesser acts already there. Politics has even corrupted the HOF as well! What a shame.
@@thomasfoss9963 I have "Sky Dog", the boxed anthology with pretty much everything Duanne ever did; have both original anthologies too. I don't see anything together with Sam...too bad. Recorded live and aired in 1992. “Wooly Bully” by Sam the Sham with the Texas Tornadoes was one for the ages. However, the second half of the song was interrupted by Paul Rodriguez running his fat stupid mouth, followed by a series of bullshit commercials and announcements. A rare concert performance was trashed up to a fare-thee-well by the network coverage. I think it sucked great big effing great big hairy elephant trunks. This was a rare once in a lifetime performance and the only blessed ones were the audience in person, and not the viewers in television land.

Why can’t we have good Hispanic role models like this anymore?
Sam was not Hispanic he was Basque and Apache.

Not hard to tell that songs like Wooly Bully and 96 Tears are of Mexican origin. Definitely a Conjunta beat.

Texas Tornados - better known as - Sir Douglas Quintet - their famous hit around the time of "Wooly Bully" - "She's About A Mover " & don't be L7
And mendocino song too
It says at the end when the credits are rolling, that it was a 1992 awards show.
I'd have thought much later. There are some videos on of a 1998 concert in the Netherlands and he looks much younger in them.

Wooly Bully was the one of the most popular songs in Music History whose lyrics actually made no sense at all. 😅
