Our communities abroad are such a prideful watch, they just switch between Portuguese and German mode like its second nature. We always seem to assimilate, absorb culture and costumes, and respect the born and bred. We have the third largest immigration group in France and you can't tell us apart from a French person. A warm thank you to Germany and Germans for welcoming us.

Fitting that the main portuguese motorcycle featured in this documentary is powered by a Sachs engine, a German manufacturer. Interesting that it only broke down in Germany :)
Also, the monument dedicated to the emigrant families is located in Monte de São Félix. This is in the perish of Laundos, which I happen to live next to it. I had one of these SIS Sachs V5 bikes before and used to ride it to this beautiful location and admire the monument and the view. I grew up dreaming of living in Germany and to see these things come together in this documentary is very emotional. Must be a sign of whats to happen in my life :)

I live in Canada and honestly the meolodic music of Portugal always gave me a headache every time I heard it on our multicultural music channel. These unfortunate people came to Germany at a time when Portugal was one of the most backward countries in Europe. Today in Portugal has changed much and is now a haven of escape for refugees and a haven for people looking for a refuge from the English speaking world. Real estate prices have gone out of control in its major cities and many Portuguese can't even afford to buy a home in their own country if they are close to the main urban centers. Here in Canada the Portuguese are active in construction work where they have helped the construction boom that has facilitated the migration of millions of Third World migrants. The EU has helped Portugal to become a more livable place but for those that Portuguese that have migrated to Germany the prospects of future unemployment might just facilitate a backward trend much the same as for other European migrants to Germany looking for a better life. The faltering German economy coupled with the the huge number of Third World migrants is not a prosperous future scenario for anyone living in or coming to Germany.

As a portuguese guy that has never left the country it makes me sad that we keep glorifying people who move out. For a very long time, Portuguese people have had this mentality where "it's impossible to make it here, if you want to be someone in life you have to move abroad." Because of this, our country is now very old and stagnated. We have completely given up on our potential and our creative genius and have relegated ourselves to a position where we can only make it with foreign investment total outside dependence. Our country is dying and if the brightest minds hadn't left our country would be a much better place.

Não se trata de " if you want to be someone in life.." mas sim: "if you want to be debt-free for the Rest of Your Life!"

Yearly tuition of private school in Turkey is 9000 euros per year. France has got 2 million Turkish engineers, social Business, economics, İntl relations alumni immigrants and Galatasaray secondary, high schools only in french language had been opened in Istanbul by Ottoman emperors in 1470s. German language İstanbul German University has been doing very well similar like Galatasaray University in only french language taught courses, Charles de Gaule secondary, high schools in Ankara, Tevfik Fikret Secondary, high schools in Ankara Turkey only in french taught private sector schools and universities with at least 10.000 euros per year tuition and fees.

A ideia é bem antiga (D. António Prior do Crato, D João IV, Marquês do Pombal).

Notice how every community and society trives with Portuguese migration except Portugal itself. No crime, no graffiti, no social tension, no cultural confrontation. Just people going on with their lives and helping local community.
Meanwhile we're here walking backwards quickly thanks to the fall of natality, growing rates of emigration, mass imigration from the 3d world, and a political elite that will soon force the emergence of a new Salazar to set things straight by force once they fall to the groung for good. Again.

Portugal backwardness is still a residual effect of an oppressive fascist regime that crushed our soul.
Wasted billions by today's account and thousands of our young men died in a frivolous colonial that everybody knew lost already. Thousands of our best people emigrated to flee poverty and conscription. Salazar emptyed this country of our best people.
