It is 2024 and I just ordered one myself 😊 What decided me to go for this board is the ease of use, e-ink display, large board, battery, etc. But especially the fact that you just can do another move than the computer is telling you to do. It just accepts your alternative move. Great for training purposes. Even this board is “already” 4 years or so old, I did not find any other alternative for this board and I just do not want to be dependent of smartphones and apps that lots of new boards require. I think and hope I will love this board.
Everything you said is the reason I love this board. I meant to touch on all those points in the video, but just kinda got lost at some point. I really needed to write out my important points so I wouldn't forget. I always just shoot from the hip.
@@shadowside8433 Playing some example games from chess books. Interesting to see if the computer plays the same moves and sometimes correct the move that the computer plays for the move according to the book.
I'm not sure what level of player I am, . . , but probably between beginner and intermediate. I guess if I can win one in ten, my ego won't be too bruised.😊 . . I'm hoping that its adaptability runs only through the game being played or the session of consecutive games and not in memory, after you turn Centaur off and then on again , whether on the same day or later.
Quite the wholesome review. I ended up going with the Chessnut Air a year ago. It's got some gizmos and gadgets and whatnot but I really wish I would have gone with the centaur based only on not needing to use another device to play. I hope they end up upgrading this model some day.
Just received my DGT Centaur !!! Your reviews were instrumental in my final decision.. . . thank you ! ** Would you know how long the Centaur needs for a full charge? I can't seem to find any indicator of lacking charge, or having been fully charged. Is it also o.k. to play while charging?
I'm glad the reviews helped you. In regards to the charging speed of the board, I really don't know since my board has never been lower than about 25%, and then I charge it. It holds a charge for so long that playing with it plugged in was never an issue for me. I hope this helps somewhat. Thanks 😊
Thank you for this. I hope you don't mind me 'picking your brain ' and experience with the Centaur from time to time. After charging it last night, I had my first game on friendly. I made a stupid inattentive mistake, and lost in the end with Centaur being only one promoted pawn ahead, at midnight. I'm thinking of keeping score this way, as I think it will win the lion's share of games ! I'm 67, and a little slower than I was before retirement a few years ago.But it'll still be fun!😢😊@skymantechnology8329
What altered pieces are you using ? Any concern or experience of the foil underneath scratching the board , or no concern ? I'm thinking of ordering one very soon. Thanks!
@fcanonicus7044 I'm using triple weighted plastic tournament pieces. I have not encountered any problems with scratching the board. Still looks brand new. Good luck. I'm still very happy with the board.
Thanks ! Is your King there a 3.5 " piece, as I understand the set comes with a 3" piece ? By the way, I love chess, but I'm just a retired guy in my late 60s, and a casual player, wanting the fun of it, the beauty and sensory aspect of it, and wanting to keep my mental side in reasonable shape. I've heard that even in " Friendly " mode, howsever, . . winning against the Centaur is very challenging and rare. Your thoughts and experience on this ?
Hi! The king I use is actually 4". As far as the gameplay of the board, it truly is challenging. However, it's an AI board that calculates your every move to determine your playing strength. Therefore, it is like playing someone on your level, just a bit more difficult. It is certainly beatable. I'm an intermediate player, and I have logged in my share of wins in Friendly mode. If you want to really flex your mental muscles, just keep playing on this board and your skill will improve as you keep trying to up your game. I hope this helps.
did this board make you play better over time? Especially the "challenge" mode, where its supposed to be slightly better than the player, and thus pushing you... or is it just for fun to play but you havent noticed any improvements in your games after all those games on this machine? thx
Yes, it has improved my game. The more I lost, the more I learned. It will adjust to your level of play and make you think more about tactics, strategy, etc. It sure feels good when defeat it! Hope this helps.
@@skymantechnology8329 great,, thanks for the information. I am very tempted to purchase it. I do like the stand-alone concept, no app or any software being involved.
Great 3 year review! Hope your channel grows with e-chessboards like my channel did! Happy New Year!
Thank you. I left out the fact that I feel my playing has increased even by losing to the board. I plan on doing some more e-board reviews.

What sort of training do you do with it, if you don't mind me asking.

As mad as I am right now because I lost again to this board just today, I agree that an upgraded model would be great.
