20 Things Can’t Be Seen Anywhere But in Japan

- Elements from Japanese culture are in our lives right now: many people watch anime and Japanese TV series, they eat wok and sushi, and they listen to songs by Japanese singers. And even such a seemingly ordinary thing as karaoke actually originated in Japan. However, there are still some things that can only be seen in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Really, Japan is a unique country, different from the rest of the world. Wanna have Pringles soup when in Japan? Here you go. In the mood for dinner with a huge plush Moomin in a Japanese cafe? Not a problem at all. Here are some cultural things can’t be seen anywhere but in Japan.

SUMMARY:
- Most people know that a sure sign they CAN cross the road is the little, lit-up green man, right? Well, not in Japan! There, you should wait for a green rabbit called Miffy.
- In Japan, they grow square watermelons. Nope, it's not a slip of the tongue. In Kagawa prefecture, they produce a couple hundred square watermelons a year.
- When you buy Pringles in Japan, you don't get a tube of potato chips; you get noodles!
- In Japan, if you come to a cafe alone, you get a massive plush Moomin as your lunch companion so that you don't feel sad!
- A Holiday meal means tons of tasty food and, of course, a big roast turkey! But if you ever celebrate the Holidays while in Japan, don't get surprised to be treated with KFC instead of more traditional food.
- In the Ginza district of Tokyo, there’s an unusual stationery store which rises 12 floors!
- There are more than 50 million vending machines in Japan, and that means they’re literally everywhere!
- If you're in Japan and wondering what souvenirs you can get for your family and friends, try Japan-limited Kit-Kats!
- Suffering from the cold in the winter? Just get yourself one of these one-use pocket-heaters that are so popular in Japan! It's called kairo, and nowadays, you just need to open it for the chemical reaction to begin.
- Do you love unusual forms of art? Then how about rice paddy art? People plant rice of different colors and types to create breathtaking images in paddy fields.
- Imagine returning home after a long and crazy day at work. The Japanese have found a solution for this problem - and that's a subway chin rest!

90% of the comments were : I'm a Japanese and half of the things were false
Lol
I'm not Japanese and I know that the false things is more than half (I think ~3-4 things were somewhat correct).
A lot of the things are just one single shop or item and not attributable to the entirety of Japan. It's like if there was some small shop in NY that sold Shoe-flavored burgers and someone made a video saying that Americans eat Shoe-flavored burgers!! OMG!!1!! And the pronunciations... they don't even try to pronounce the words correctly. Why make a video when you don't care about facts?
@novelpaiges You probably can- just not everywhere in Japan. You'll have to do your homework to find that one restaurant in the entire country that lets you do that.
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 True..
Lol true 😂😂😂
I've spent a lot of time in Japan so I can agree with many others who have said these things are either hard to find or not normal there. I think maybe the things in the video do exist in Japan, but only in very specific locations. For example, I've never seen anyone sitting alone in a cafe with a giant plush...but maybe there is 1 cafe in Tokyo or something that does this.

@@rs5570 that's in one specific cafe. That's the cafe's gimmick. It's not all over Japan. It's like saying that all the mountains in the USA are shaped like presidents.

Japan really focuses on small enjoyments in life.. that's such a precious thing!
I live Japan for 20 years,I never saw miffy traffic light, Also if your dining alone sitting in front of you a stuffed toy? I never saw that too. If your dining alone you can sit on the counter so that you don't feel alone and save space for others who dine in groups or two. I never saw Pringle's ramen too. They have Bb ramen, You can eat it as snacks or you can eat it like instant ramen. put hot water in 3 mins then you can eat it.
This video is poorly researched and/or misleading.
Love how you put that out there, but add nothing as too why its poorly researched or misleading.
@@jon8833 Many of the "facts" presented in this video and others are actually not accurate... hence the poor research...
@@jon8833 How about the fact that 1.the KFC shown is from China NOT Japan? Also, 2. there no Miffy cross walk signs. Maybe there is one somewhere in japan, but 99.999% are normal. He didn’t even mention the Hello Kitty construction signs that ARE actually all over Tokyo. 3. Square watermelons are NOT meant for eating at ALL, only for advertising or display. 4. There is nothing special about the sushi rice in Japan, it's just how good sushi is properly made. He must be eating at terrible sushi shops outside of Japan? 5. The name of the stationary store with the share space is Itoyo. Why didn't he include this? He sure make a big deal about Pringles! On the subject of Pringles, 6. Pringles are commonly sold as chips in Japan. The ramen Pringles were a one off limited edition item, sold along with Pringles yakisoba. 7. Hand warmers ARE sold in japan, but you know what you are more likely to use? A hot drink sold at a vending machine. Chances are you will be buying a hot beverage already and it’s often used to warm ones pockets before drinking. 8. NEVER seen anyone ever use a chin strap to sleep. In fact I think most Japanese commuters would find the use of one disturbing and an inconvenience to others.
J NG He’s right and you can check out my comments about this video.

THE "SAUCE" IS ALWAYS IN SUSHI, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU'RE IN JAPAN OR NOT!!!

Not only Japan but every country, every city, every person is unique.
In every place, there is something that is only found in that place. If you talk about Japan, every city in Japan has some different traditional foods, festivals etc. For example, we have sasadango, poppoyaki etc in Niigata prefecture. These are some traditional sweets in Niigata. If we go to some other prefectures in Japan, you will not find these sweets but you will find some other unique sweets.
So the things you mentioned in this video is not true for every place in Japan.

"A stationery store which rises 12 floors" - kind of reminds me of the time I drew a picture set in a 21-floor mall where I give Wakamé's boyfriend (also my kindred spirit) Horikawa-kun some balloons and kiss him on his cheek before letting him fly softly with the balloons lifting the little cutie higher and higher above the ground and then into the light blue sky where Wakamé is also floating through the air with balloons.

Also, the Pringle’s noodle cup isn’t a thing, and there is no special sauce on sushi that sticks the pieces.
That's right... Sticky rice is used in sushi... this is why it doesn't fall apart... not because of some "special sauce"
actually it's not all false, normal rice is used and it's mixed with vinegar. In japan rice is normally sticky due to how its prepared and cooked (easier to eat with chopsticks). sushi is made with fish and su-meshi, which is litteraly vinegar rice.
