I was interested to watch this but when I read the actual pattern it made perfect sense to me. I’m 82 and test knitted for Villawool 60 years ago and it seemed to me that this was a simple, traditional pattern instruction.
Thank you for this video! I have many of her pattern books. I love her style and patterns! I have started three of her patterns but then lose momentum because I get overwhelmed trying to figure it out. I will try mapping out the entire pattern as you suggested. It gives me hope I can get through one of the patterns eventually!! Love your beautiful work (and Mom’s) 😊
I love Kim Hardgreaves patterns and have the same frustrations as you do. I have handwritten some of the sections out but this spreadsheet method is so much better/ Thank you very much!
WOW!! I would not have been able to knit that nor figure it out as you had….. thanks for demo, still confusing to me but a bit understandable!! You are very lucky that you are a small size, can you image the disparity in the larger size? Mum to the rescue, wish I had a Mum that would do the seams for me.. thanks for this video.
You're welcome. It takes some practise to understand all the different types of instructions. I find modern instructions much easier to read. You can start with designers such as Jessie Maed, where her instructions are very clearly written.
Thank you for explaining that pattern. I didn't even know how to figure these patterns out. Looked like random words before, although I really like the designs. 😄 Now I know what to look for in other Rowan patterns, that I want to knit. I have been knitting for about 40 years, but these were just too confusing. I am happy that German patterns are usually quite straightforward. They just write something like: 'decrease on right side 2 stitches and repeat that 4 times every 5th row ' So the written pattern is about half a page long. I don't know why Rowan makes it so complicated. Again thank you. 💚 Also, as for the seaming. Would it be possible for your mom to show how she does the seaming? I would really like to learn how to do it better. 🙂
I'm glad I could be of help. I agree, I have many Rowan books but rarely knit anything out of them because of how the pattern is explained. Mum uses normal mattress stitch, but she does it really neatly. I usually rush and the two sides often don't match up perfectly 🤪
Mum for the win 🤭😂 it looks so cute 🥰
Thank you! I'm going to enjoy wearing this cardi.

You're right, I think I'm just not used to this way of writing.

You are so welcome! I hope you will finish some of her patterns as they're all beautiful classics.

Wow! There is no way I would be knitting one of those patterns. Too complicated.
I found patterns difficult at first, but with more knitting, it became easier.
