Not only these sopranos have to deal with singing well but also pronouncing correctly all the words of the song, in a foreign language. Plus acting with grace, smiling, dressing up and looking pretty. Not easy at all.
I saw her at the Met singing the baroque trouser (lead) role of Giulio Cesare (Handel). She was nothing short of spectacular! Some of her live arias were previously on youtube, but they've been deleted. Also saw her in SF singing Rosina in Barber of Seville with Dmitri Hvorostovsky. What a cast!
There is so much body and pizzazz in that voice - she really knows how to join her spirit to the melody - it's a very old school notion, but frankly this is what bel canto really means - the soul does the singing and the body follows. Could listen to her sing Happy Birthday and be more moved than the dullards I've seen recently at the Met. The only who comes close is Kasarova - saw her and Florez seven shows in a row one year!
What JOY, what GLORY!!! Definitely one of the greatest Rossini/Bel Canto mezzos EVER. Remarkably, also THE GREATEST Giulio Cesare as well. Even though she's had a great international career, I feel she hasn't received enough fame and recognition: she deserved MORE. The ONLY minor complaint in this video is the conductor's decision to excise a few measures of the orchestral playing in the very end. What's the point of a little sacrilege against the great Rossini?
What on earth are you talking about, she most certainly has not. She recently moved on from the bel canto and baroque repertoire to sing slightly heavier stuff. Her Countess Geschiwtz and Kostelnička were triumphs and are available on DVD (she sang in the premiere of the most recent met production when it was first since in Amsterdam). Her Lady Macbeth was also apparently quite successful, she added Marie in Wozzeck to her repertoire (mixed, but mostly positive reception) and plans on adding Donna Elvira next season. She's quite busy and I have yet to here any plans of retirement
Ive never seen this before. What a treasure!
Larmore is unearthly. There was never, NEVER anyone better.
Her precision, evenness of tone, volume, beauty of tone, ease of production. There has never been anyone like her. Ever.
this is the most spectacular opera singing I have ever heard ... extraordinary confidence!
Larmore is one of the best mezzo's America has ever produced. Her vocal range is phenominal. She was at her best in Rossini and Handel.
Yeah, but now she sounds awful-and don't tell me it is normal at het age!
@@piustwelfthAbsolutely. The sheer richness and evenness of tone throughout. Unmatched. Incredible.

Love her voice ❤❤❤❤
AWESOME. It's so cool seeing her actually working on it, and how easy she makes it all seem. Thanks for posting this bit of 'behind-the-scenes.'
I love this woman! Why hasn't she sung more in the U.S.?
She used to all the time. She’s just about retired now.
Hermosa mujer, cantante e intérprete!!!!

She was soooo good then!
It was 27 years ago. 20 years before you commented and A lot happens to a voice in 20 years.
@@LaDivinaLover some yes, some no

Divina
Fabulous singer. Whatever happened to her?... I don't hear from her anymore.
She's now singing the Verdi rep. now!
+tonshaad1230 sadly, she stopped singing altogether.
francescodonizetti What? Why?
Do you know what she's doing now? Is she teaching and passing off that grand knowledge to students at the conservatory level?
