I was a big fan of this channel until I saw this video. My Top 10: 10. Lee Petty 9. Tony Stewart 8. Bobby Allison 7. Cale Yarborough 6. Darrell Waltrip 5. David Pearson 4. Jimmie Johnson 3. Jeff Gordon 2. Dale Earnhardt 1. Richard Petty
Jimmie is a great driver, sure pick first ballot hall of fame but you contradict yourself in this video. You reference Gordon would have been a seven time champion without the chase, Jimmie would've only won three without the chase. Moving on, Jimmie started his career with Hendrick when it was built and established as the greatest organization in NASCAR, same can be said about Petty even. Hendrick was even with Childress I think when Jeff started, and Jeff's youth and talent pushed them to the level they was throughout Jimmie career. Dale Sr. started with a brand new team, built it to a champion, then had to start over with Childress and they built RCR together! Imagine Dale Senior throughout the 80s if, in 1980, RCR was where they were by 1987? Senior would've easily won another title. As for pyre driving talent, Jimmie has showed he can drive fast. Name me one memorable moment of him saving a car, making some crazy car control pass? I respect your opinion, I just want you to take a step back and look at all thr facts. 1. Dale 2. Richard 3. Gordon 4. Pearson 5. Waltrip 6. Cale 7. Jimmie
1 Jeff Gordon 2 Dale Sr 3 Richard Petty 4 Jimmy Johnson I dont count the chase as a legitimate championship. It is a gimmick and should be a separate category. The fact that a guy missed half the races and won a championship should disqualify it for anyone. If the chase was never a thing, Jimmie would be even lower honestly
1. Petty 2. Earnhardt sr. 3. Johnson 4. Gordon 5. Pearson 6. Yarborough 7. DW 8. Lee Petty 9. Allison, Bobby 10. Smoke 11. Jr. Johnson 12. Rusty Wallace 13. Allison, Davey 14. Etc so on and so forth
Jeff Gordon is #1 for me. He is a 7 time champion without The Chase. He won 93 races and had 81 poles. Only Jimmie Johnson will challenge the 93 wins and after Jimmie retires, NOBODY will ever win 93 races again. He has 81 career poles and that will never come close to getting beat in the future. He won 3 Daytona 500's, 5 Brickyard 400's (the most), 6 Southern 500's at Darlington (4 in a row), 3 Coca Cola 600's, 9 Martinsville wins, he won at every track except Kentucky (only ran there 4 times and all were top 10's) and also won at Rockingham and North Wilkesboro (no longer on the schedule), he has a record 9 road course wins (4 straight), has a record 12 restrictor plate wins (most all time in the restrictor plate era), won the Real Winston Million in 1997, won atleast 2 times or more at all but 3 tracks, brought Earnhardt's reign to an end and started beating Earnhardt for championships at age 23, came out of California when all the drivers and fans were still all from the south (now California has more drivers in Cup than any state), only driver to host Saturday Night Live, hosted Live with Regis and Kelly 13 times (only driver to host) and when he retired almost all his competitors said Gordon was their hero when they were younger. He won 47 races in 5 seasons (3 straight years of over 10 wins a season). For example, Tony Stewart won just 2 more races (49) in his 18 year career than Gordon won in only 5 seasons. He already had 52 career wins by his 28th birthday!!! Won races in 21 of his 23 seasons. Still holds the record of 11 poles in 1 season in Xfinity Series. Had 47 wins from 1995-1999. 1995) 7 wins 1996) 10 wins 1997) 10 wins 1998) 13 wins and a modern era record since 1972 1999) 7 wins. Won races with EVERY crew chief he had. He made Hendrick Motorsports the powerhouse it is and along with Hendrick he owns the #48 car and mentored Jimmie Johnson. In 1998 they ran 33 races. He had 13 wins, 26 top 5's and 28 top 10's with an avg. finish of 5th for the whole season (still a record) and set the record for most top 10's in a season with 30 in 2007. He was the first to come into Nascar as a 20 year old and get a top ride immediately. Now everyone gets a top ride at 20 yrs old but he paved the way. He's a legend, icon and hero. And in my eyes, and millions more, he's simply the best ever!!! Mario Andretti and F1's Lewis Hamilton came to Homestead 2015 just to see his last race and be on his pit box!! They dont do that for other drivers!!! 24Ever
Jimmie in 1st? Nope. If not for the chase.. he would have won... maybe 3 championships. I respect him, he's one of the best, but still. Not the best. He owes his championships mainly to His crew chief. His 2010 title was won only because CHAD KNAUS decided to change pit crews.
Here’s my issue with Jimmie Johnson: You pointed out if Gordon had raced under the old format his whole career he would have won 7 championships (which I would love to see the data for that.) If that was the case then it would indicate a likelihood that Jimmie would NOT have 7 championships had his career been run under the old formats. Therefore his titles should be diminished.
Well, if winston cup format(decades old format) existed, jimmie and his team would get 7 championships if they are ready lol also th3 chase from 2004 to 2013 was good
+The Gold Irishman Mark is not better than Allison, Yarborough, waltrip, or Stewart. Sorry but the numbers don't put mark in the top 5 that's ridiculous he's right there maybe in 10 but not top 5 no way
1.) Jimmie Johnson 2.) Jeff Gordon 3.) Dale Earnhardt Sr. 4.) Richard Petty 5.) Cale Yarborough 6.) David Pearson 7.) Matt Kenseth 8.) Darell Waltrip 9.) Kyle Busch 10.) Bobby Allison
10) Tony Stewart 9)Davey Allison 8)Lee Petty 7)Cale Yarbourough 6)Darrell Waltrip 5)David Pearson 4)Jeff Gordon 3)Dale Earnhardt 2)Jimmy Johnson 1)Richard Johnson
1. The King 2. Dale 3. Jimmie 4. Jeff 5. Cale 6. Waltrip 7. Pearson 8. Stewart 9. Allison 10. Bill Elliott / Rusty Wallace / Kyle Busch To me Jimmie would be #1 if he could somehow hit 100 race wins.
I respect your reasoning and opinion but my top 5 would be: 5:Bobby Allison 4:Richard Petty 3:Dale Sr 2:Jimmy Johnson 1:Jeff Gordon Yeah I maybe a Hendrick guy and Jeff is my favorite, but statistically and of course if the chase format didn't happen, Johnson and Gordon's stats would be inverted. Kinda butt hurt over NASCAR pulling that stunt to make things more interesting near the end knowing drivers like Gordon that would always have such a higher and consistent point standings near the end would make it more difficult for other drivers to win the championship, but honestly that is all the more reason they deserve it for being that good :) 23 now and been a fan ever since I can remember.
If this was a top 15, I'd say Mark Martin, Ron Hornaday Jr, Kyle Busch, Alan Kulwicki and Bill Elliott on here. Arguably some of theme could be in the top 10, like Ron Hornaday who's shown talent in the trucks and in the Xfinity series. Nice list

The positions of these guys are up for debate like you said, But I think you nailed it man. The reasons for putting the guys where you did. your analysis of Pearson and Petty, spot on. I'm only a few years older than you and most guys that call their selves fans our age know nothing of the reasons why people like petty will always hold a couple of records. Running multiple races a week. Backing, Formats etc.. I wish we could still squeeze Awesome Bill in there but getting harder to do.. Good job man
10 Mark Martin 9 Tony Stewart 8 Lee Petty 7 Bobby Allison 6 Cale Yarborough 5 Jeff Gordon 4 Darrel Waltrip 3 Dale Earnhardt 2 David Pearson 1 Richard Petty
I also have Johnson #1, even if his last few years haven’t been good, the man still won 5 in a row and 7 overall, while the competition was at its highest. Richard Petty, and Dale Earnhardt are second for me, can’t decide. Fourth is Gordon, if he got one more championship he might be higher in my opinion
5 in a row and 7 total under a joke of a points system. Do you realize that in 4 of Jimmy’s championship years he was well over 300-400 points behind the leader with 11 races to go. But, reset the points and start anew is the only way Jimmy wins 5 in a row and 7 total. Hell, Earnhardt would have had 12 under that silly ass points system. Not to mention, when he and Knauss broke up, Jimmy never even threatened to win again. If you think Jimmy was better than Dale, it’s obvious you didn’t experience Dale! Dale was a Wow, Holy Shit did you see that, how the hell and Unbelievable all rolled into a single package!
I feel that Earnhardt is a little bit overrated, I have him behind Gordon because I feel that he was so aggressive that he didn't show as much talent and just ran people out of the way lol. As a Gordon fan , I still believe Jeff with Evernham over the time that Johnson and Knaus have been together, would have solidified Jeff as no 1 all time.
My top 4 are the same as yours just in a different order. 1. Dale Sr 2. Jeff Gordon 3. Jimmie Johnson (Probably tied or very close to Gordon) 4. Richard Petty

I’d go like this: 1.) Earnhardt Sr 2.) Gordon (I’m a Gordon fan saying Dale is slightly better) 3.) Johnson 4.) Petty 5.) Pearson 6.) Waltrip 7.) Allison 8.) Yarborough 9.) Kyle Busch 10.) Harvick
Here's my top 4: 4th Jeff Gordon; 3rd Richard Petty; 2nd Dale Earnhardt; 1st Jimmie Johnson. I put Jeff Gordon at number 4 only because he only has four championships and at the same time Johnson number 1 because he won five consecutive championships (which only the great Michael Schumacher is the only racing driver with 5 in a row) and tied Earnhardt and Petty with 7.
My list almost 2 years later is 1.Johnson 2. Gordon 3. Earnhardt 4. Petty. The Top 3 are definitely debatable depending how you look at things, but Petty imo can not be higher than 4 due to the era he drove in compared to when the the other 3. He is great, but he drove in a not so competitive era.
RC RACER 88 I disagree, Dale also races in competitive, but not as competitive era of NASCAR than Johnson did. While some consider Johnson’s Championships invalid because of the Chase, he still proved how good he was and in all honesty if you the playoffs had never been introduced then Gordon would have won 7 championships so I have to put Gordon above Dale. Like I said the top 3 are definitely debatable, but I can’t ignore the era in which they raced. Honestly number 1 should be between Johnson and Gordon
Twisterduck Gaming you must be a little kid who don't know shit about NASCAR because dales era had harder competition than Jimmie and ever had not easier
RC RACER 88 I have been watching NASCAR for quite sometime and have watched numerous old races. I’m not arguing with your opinion, but when you look at numbers and teams that were around and also take into account the budget and quality of cars. Johnson’s era had the best cars around in the field. Dale is an amazing driver, but Johnson beats him by a hair the way I see it. But you don’t have to agree with me and that is why this conversation will continue for many years to come in till a driver puts to gather an unbelievable career.
.....The most races NASCAR has had a season is around 60 to 65 races. Richard Petty even drove in the 1985 season with only 28 races. So 150 races in a year for Richard Petty was impossible in NASCAR. Richard Petty was a Rookie in 1959, and retired in 1992. So he had way more chances to win then everyone else. Career stats 1,184 races, 123 poles, 200 wins, 555 top 5's, 712 top 10's, 7 championships, 7 Daytona 500 wins
Wtf not 150, the maximum was 58 and later they went to 48, where richard petty raced 48 races for 10 years(he also did not run all races) then he raced 30 races till the end of his carrer
Your top 5 are good then I would put Richard for 4th Earnhardt sr for 3 th Then this one is only because he used his tips learned by his owner and couch jimmy Johnson for second The 5 time brick yard winner the kid who stole the spotlight from the king his first race with the goof Stach and hair doe and won the Dayton 500 before sr and raced for second Dayton 500 win and has the most of the record ever Jeff Gordon he also owns jimmy Johnson car and taught him
I personally would make #1 Dale Earlhart Sr. #2 Richard Petty #3 Jimme Johnson My reasoning with Jimme in 3rd would be. Right now, tied with Rich and Dale with his winnings. He doesn't really draw in fans like the other two though. Rich in 2nd because he was a legend. However, his style and his overall image was no match for Dale. 1st is Dale because he was just a racing god. His talent was like nobody else, the most scary thing in NASCAR would to see the #3 in your mirror. If you didn't get out of his way, he would make you. He also survived many bad crashes. One of which his car flipped a few times. After seeing all the tires were on correctly, he got back in his car and finished the race. He was truly the greatest ever in my heart.
Interesting list....I think Johnson can get 100 wins and I also think he and that team are capable of winning an eighth title. My current top ten list is: #1 R. Petty #2 Johnson #3 Earnhardt #4 Pearson #5 Gordon #6 Yarborough #7 Allison #8 Waltrip #9 Thomas #10 L. Petty
Johnson and Gordon had incredible patience. That goes along way. Earnhardt......mean as a wild boar! I truly believe if Big E was a bit more patient.....he would have been even more successful. Jmop. I miss Dale!
Slackin' not having ol' Rusty Wallace SOMEWHERE on this list... Rusty was a monster in that FORD No. 2 Miller Lite. He was like Kyle Busch before Kyle Busch. He was near the lead or winning in just about every race he ever ran in...In what I believe was the toughest racing era ever...
David Pearson is the greatest driver to ever sit behind the wheel of a car, regardless of the discipline. He only raced in 4 fill time seasons and won the title in 3 of them. He actually didn’t compete full time in one of those three championship wins.
My list 1) richard petty 2) dale earnhardt 3)david pearson 4) jeff gordon 5)lee petty The i made my list cause lee petty is at number 5 he started all of this after nascar back in 1948 the guy had go buy regular car and it made into race car in our race shop and the reason that jimmie johnson is not in the 5 top number in my list he didnt work hard like the guy b4 him but it doesnt mean he didnt work hard it mean not hard else. The guys like richard petty and dale earnhardt and david pearson work their race car i mean help the guys in porod their race car
Dude you have most of the right guys in your list. However if you really look at some OTHER things, you could come away with something else. You say GORDON.... Would have. 7. ...OK. how many CREW CHIEFS were involved in those ( would have been ) 7 ? i love racing, & I like alot. Of drivers that have raced over the years. But ,i don't know of any other drivers that did anything close over years of change like Jeff did......Granted ..If you knew who the champ was 2 races before the end it may have sucked for some ...I think the 24 may have won 7 with 3 or 4 different crew chiefs. .WHO ELSE COULD DO THAT?
By the way, where the hell is Junior Johnson? Probably the driver that belongs at number 2. Hardly ever raced a full season because he would get bored of kicking everybody’s rear ends and would take a month or two off, still finish in top 5 in points. Now that’s a driver!
My top 9 before watching the video: Petty, Earnhardt, Gordon, Johnson, Pierson, Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarbrough and Tony Stewart. Couldn't pick a 10th but if all nascar series are included it would be Kyle Busch.

I was a big fan of this channel until I saw this video. My Top 10:
10. Lee Petty
9. Tony Stewart

7. Cale Yarborough
6. Darrell Waltrip

Rowdy Smoke14 It’s his opinion
Ever heard of people having opinions?
Imo, Johnson is a 7 time champ because of the chase format. If there had been no chase format he'd only have 2 or 3.
It's the format that nascar uses so Jimmie is still 7.
The Gold Irishman i didnt say he wasnt a 7 time champ lol
Irishman (G.F.S.) he is right dumbass Jimmie Johnson isn't a real 7 time champ only Earnhardt and petty are
Johnson has 4 under winston cup format without preparation, with preparation he would have 7
good list for me personally i have gordan as the goat but good list
Nope Earnhardt sr is nascar's greatest driver ever and always will be

Top 10 Active Drivers

I dont count the chase as a legitimate championship. It is a gimmick and should be a separate category. The fact that a guy missed half the races and won a championship should disqualify it for anyone. If the chase was never a thing, Jimmie would be even lower honestly
Dale sr > Jeff
7 championships to only 4
Um 204 to 2013 chase was perfect and Jimmie would have 4 under winston cup without preparation and 7 probably with preparation

His 2010 title was won only because CHAD KNAUS decided to change pit crews.
but he was like 15th when they did that and he drove it up to the top 5

Here’s my issue with Jimmie Johnson: You pointed out if Gordon had raced under the old format his whole career he would have won 7 championships (which I would love to see the data for that.) If that was the case then it would indicate a likelihood that Jimmie would NOT have 7 championships had his career been run under the old formats. Therefore his titles should be diminished.
Well, if winston cup format(decades old format) existed, jimmie and his team would get 7 championships if they are ready lol also th3 chase from 2004 to 2013 was good
I think you did a great job but I want to argue because my fav driver wasn't on there! fav driver is Kevin Harvick

Dale Earnhardt is NASCAR's greatest driver ever and you don't have him top 5 wow you're dumb
So basically a driver would need a championship to be in your list. No disrespect but I have good old Mark Martin in my Top 5.
The Gold Irishman Well Most Good Drivers Have Chamionships Minus Mark
Martin Really
+Jared Dye Mark is a great driver. Cleanest on the field, one of the most respected and respectful. He was screwed out of the title in '90.
The Gold Irishman I know by minus I meant besides he is by far the best driver without a chamionship im just saying most greats have a chamionship

I respect your reasoning and opinion but my top 5 would be:
5:Bobby Allison
4:Richard Petty
3:Dale Sr
2:Jimmy Johnson
1:Jeff Gordon
Yeah I maybe a Hendrick guy and Jeff is my favorite, but statistically and of course if the chase format didn't happen, Johnson and Gordon's stats would be inverted.

Good job man
the reason David Pearson is 2nd is his numbers are part time. He didn't drive every race

Dale Earnhardt is nascar's greatest driver ever far better than Jimmie

Top 10 NASCAR drivers to never win a championship?
Twisterduck Gaming wrong Dale Earnhardt is the greatest all-time Jimmie Johnson and jeff Gordon are not even close to Dale Earnhardt
Twisterduck Gaming Jimmie Johnson is good but the intimadator is the greatest ever
The thing is Richard petty drive 150 races in a year that's why he had 200 wins
.....The most races NASCAR has had a season is around 60 to 65 races. Richard Petty even drove in the 1985 season with only 28 races. So 150 races in a year for Richard Petty was impossible in NASCAR. Richard Petty was a Rookie in 1959, and retired in 1992. So he had way more chances to win then everyone else.
Career stats
1,184 races,
123 poles,
200 wins,
555 top 5's,
712 top 10's,
7 championships,
7 Daytona 500 wins
Wtf not 150, the maximum was 58 and later they went to 48, where richard petty raced 48 races for 10 years(he also did not run all races) then he raced 30 races till the end of his carrer
My top 5:
5. Johnson
4. Pearson
3. Petty
2. Gordon

The 5 time brick yard winner the kid who stole the spotlight from the king his first race with the goof Stach and hair doe and won the Dayton 500 before sr and raced for second Dayton 500 win and has the most of the record ever Jeff Gordon he also owns jimmy Johnson car and taught him
Jeff Gordon is better than Jimmie Johnson
And Dale Earnhardt is NASCAR's greatest driver ever better than Jimmie Johnson and jeff Gordon combined
I personally would make
#1 Dale Earlhart Sr.
#2 Richard Petty
#3 Jimme Johnson
My reasoning with Jimme in 3rd would be.
I agree with your list. Thank you for this video
Interesting list....I think Johnson can get 100 wins and I also think he and that team are capable of winning an eighth title. My current top ten list is:
#1 R. Petty
#2 Johnson
#3 Earnhardt
#4 Pearson
#5 Gordon
#6 Yarborough
#7 Allison
#8 Waltrip
#9 Thomas
#10 L. Petty
Johnson and Gordon had incredible patience. That goes along way. Earnhardt......mean as a wild boar! I truly believe if Big E was a bit more patient.....he would have been even more successful. Jmop. I miss Dale!
The video is great. ChicagoLand yesterday was an awesome finish between Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch. Wish you would do a top 10 of current drivers.
Jimmy Spencer should have been on the list in at least the top 3.

The i made my list cause lee petty is at number 5 he started all of this after nascar back in 1948 the guy had go buy regular car and it made into race car in our race shop and the reason that jimmie johnson is not in the 5 top number in my list he didnt work hard like the guy b4 him but it doesnt mean he didnt work hard it mean not hard else.
But ,i don't know of any other drivers that did anything close over years of change like Jeff did......Granted ..If you knew who the champ was 2 races before the end it may have sucked for some
...I think the 24 may have won 7 with 3 or 4 different crew chiefs. .WHO ELSE COULD DO THAT?
Dale has a better resume than anyone on your list post 35 years old. His longevity breaks all tie breakers.
I loove Jimmie, but on road courses, it between Tony, Jeff, Aj Allmendinger, or Kyle Busch
