It's an entertainment event and its team-based. The crowd gets right into it and that makes the players do the same. I think it is good for the spectacle overall. Both teams have been doing it and Matchroom will encourage it. It makes for good TV. It would be like watching a football game and the team doesn't celebrate when they score but the fans do. It would be weird and a non-spectacle. The pool players need to add to the atmosphere and drama.
That's why most people like watching Earl. He mutters and moans and shouts out. It's entertainment as much as their skill is. People will tune in to see what is going to happen. It gets non-pool fans watching.

Karl Boyes has some of the most hilarious reactions regardless of whether it is USA or Europe, and he's Team Europe. HE IS GREAT FOR THE SPORT.

Sadly I think this will be the last time we see the goat earl on the big stage. He's cost USA badly in this event and he just doesn't have it anymore. Hope I'm wrong because I still love watching him play.

Lol 8 months later but it’s typically decided by the team captain. As the event goes on players and coaches can swap doubles pairings if they choose to.
Best result USA has had in years. 6 - 8 closer than 11-2 from last year.
The United States won the whole thing three years ago and they won the year before that. Strickland is killing the U.S. with just silly mistakes.

Se han hecho bien lamparosos los jugadores. Del equipo USA creo que SVB es es que esta en mejor momento. Mientras que del equipo Europa entre Jason y Filler, aunque lo veo más seguro en tiros largos a Filler, pero bueno mañan vemos como se pone la situación.
Todos los jugadores del equipo europeo han sido campeones del U.S. Open o campeones del mundo. Tiene mucho mérito que el equipo americano haya llegado a la última jornada con opciones, por mínimas que sean.

I apologize to the Americans for this comment, but Earl Strickland, no matter how good he has been or can be at pool has always had a habit of moaning about bad luck and blaming everything and everyone except himself for a bad shot, and on top of that his behavior can really put an opponent off his game, which in my eyes isn't good sportsmanship.
Having said that, I do hope that the best team may win, and if that turns out to be the USA (I am European), then I will take my hat off to them. The Mosconi Cup is such a great event!

Just wondering instead of Earl, Justin Bergman is a very good young player as well. Why US opted to have him, for sure his mileage will affect his play over all. Not to discredit’s Earl overall achievement which includes him one of the greatest, but at some point his eyesight, back problems, etc. will come to play, dude is 61. America better have new gen players because EUROPE has a ton of options. Let’s be real, Dominguez and Thorpe are no where in the scene of these other tournaments ranking yet these are the only players as an option for US. SMH 🤦♂️ Good thing Asians are not included in this tournament, because if it does, not sure about the US in these field

All props to Earl in that doubles game with Shane. He came through with some clutch shots. And he had a great safety the one game but shaw got lucky and slopped it in. But I think Earl played great there. Everyone misses a shot here and there so no problem. But he came through when they needed him. I don't know how he did in the singles yet. I'll find out here soon. Hope he did well.
Strickland has not played great, not even close. He has been the weak link on the U.S. team. Sad to see him play so poorly.

Sad to say but true. Strickland is way past his peak and, at 61 years old, he should seriously consider retiring. As for me, this Sunday, I shall be playing in the biggest tournament of my life ... The Interpool Malmo Sunday Cup Final. Luckily, I am only 59 so I'm quite sure that age will not be an issue. :)

The only thing is that I accept, that he doesnt thrive in this enviroment, mainly because of his really calm, introverted personality. Much like Shane. These two are easily among the top5 players for al ong time, but both need to have their space, their own rythm, etc.

I guess all these players (and the crowd as well ?) have some sort of inner demon(s) to channel.. past victories/losses.. but Jason Shaw's ridiculous level of intensity after winning a game- bordering frustration and anger - is detestable.

Yes, the could have easily put the purple in the side. I was literally stunned with the type of shot he tried. The purple went easily into the side and they still would have had good position on the six. Strickland has been a disaster for the U.S. team.
