Soprano Norma Burrowes sings "Alleluia" from Mozart's "Exultate jubilate", K.165. John Matheson conducts the New Philharmonia Orchestra Introduced by Michael Flanders Filmed in 1973
What wonderful memories are reawakened. Norma Burrowes was one of the most beautiful voices I ever heard at Covent Garden - fondly remembered as a lovely Nanetta in Falstaff. She sang a lovely Susanna in Figaro for the BBC - how nice it would be to be able to see that again
I knew Norma from my student years at the Royal Academy of Music during the 1960s. I would sit mesmerised in the Dukes Hall thinking as she sang - here is a great coloratura with the necessary charisma to captivate future audiences. Memorable times indeed, would love to meet her again.
She and I were in the opera class at the RAM. You can imagine how her performance of Magda in La Rondine helped to launch her career. What a beautiful sound she made. I hope she's still enjoying life in 2023. 🙂
Beautiful singing. Lovely accurate coloratura and ringing high notes, everything you love to hear with Mozart. Seems a little slow for my taste, but a stellar performance nonetheless ❤
She gave me Shivers!
Wonderful.
Totally beautiful, natural and musical. What singer wouldn't want to be remembered singing as well as this? Bravo!
Certainly, the most exquisitely delivered rendition on youtube. God Bless.

Flawless coloratura, beautiful voice! Love you Norma!
My former music teacher, Lt. Col. Sam Rhodes, made a recording of this as Director of Music of the Band of the Scots Guards, wish I still had it!

tu chante trop bien
never heard of her i know who dame janet baker is
too slow
Possibly so, but oh, the control, the poise!
I was looking for this comment. It’s funny how a lot of recordings from the 70s seems a bit slow.
