Hi Kristin. I suffer form this and I can empathize with you. I robs me of so much joy and I expend a lot of valuable energy being disgusted, angry and in a fit of rage. I am anxious much of the day because of the non-stop noise in my neighborhood. Night is much better and I prefer nigh time to daytime. I pray that you find peace. God bless you.

Girl. Girl!! I feel you so 100%, I can’t even….. omg some of what you’ve said here was literally making cry actual tears because I feel it that deep. TY for this video.
Btw, mine are styrofoam, certain voice tones (crackly, whiney, too high/ too low, my OWN when I’m tired), any repetitive unexpected sound (ex. alarms or sirens), any music played too long or at the “wrong time” for me - yes, even music that I otherwise love will put me into a full blown tizzy if it’s not the right time for me to hear it!!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have this too, but not nearly as severe as what you experience. Good luck.

OMG! I know this is a thing because there are sounds that literally will drive me to want to strangle someone. smacking is a huge trigger for me. It’s not just an annoyance but it will send me into a rage so quickly.

I have this extremely severe but when I try to explain it to my family they say to get over it and they don’t understand what it is like to have a sound auto play in my head until I want to rip my ears off and I lay on the floor and tense up and try not to breathe and it is not okay to do these things but my brain just wants me run alway and scream but they will never understand

I remember watching a Dr. Phil episode where this lady said she had this and it was why she was always angry at her husband!

Its a neurological disorder that causes a fear/flight response to otherwise normal sounds. See the misophonia association for more info.

I know, I miss the days of chat rooms, where you could literally find a group for anything… I would definitely create a room for this if that was the era we were in lol

I have misophobia and I live in front of a basketball field. I CANNOT handle the noise of the ball dropping on the conrete. I could punch them. I have shut the doors and put in earphones to block it when they are playing. Also when any family member chews their food I feel so angry I have to leave the room. When my partner and I eat together I HAVE to play music in the background and then I can handle it. Otherwise I would punch the wall. The emotions these sounds cause are crazy…!!!!!! Sometimes a noise makes me cry of anger 😱

i have this too!! my psychiatrist a few years ago told me it’s caused by my severe OCD and generalized anxiety, because there’s so much going on in my head all the time that all those kinds of noises is overstimulating. kids crying/screaming, pen clicking/pencil tapping, loud chewing, and dogs barking are my biggest ones. i get so irritable & angry almost to the point of tears.

This is also a sign of
Autism! Could it a type of it? Wouldn’t hurt to be tested and they have methods to help you deal with it. This is as unusual as you may think, hang in there!
    Good luck
