d be cool if you could show the wieght diff when talking about both lenses - also is you can give price ranges between the two lenses and maybe.... where you redo buying them used :)

I owned sigma 16mm ever since it came out. Such a great lens. But I also switched over to sony 15mm recently for the same reasons in the video, size and weight. Great video!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the same thoughts! Thank you for the kind words as well!

I got the sigma 16mm years ago and was so happy with it that I ended up getting the sigma trio (now 4 lenses with the new 23mm f1.4, love the 23). But since Sony released their apsc lenses I loved the look and size of the 15. At first I did not buy it since I had the Sigma 16. But luckily las week My FX 30 fell from a shelf onto the floor with full cage rig matt box Sigma 16mm and all. Fortunately, the only thing that broke was the Sigma. Literally sheared. Needless to say it was my excuse to get the Sony 15 and I love the size, weight and aperture ring. I have a Tamron 11-20 but am considering the Sony 11 mm 1.8 for the small size to. BTW the small rig cahe really did protect my FX30

Wow! Yes, so happy I have the SmallRig cage on my FX30 as well. It totally saved my camera when I broke my Sigma 23mm in half! It was actually only held together with friction, and three very small screws (screwed into plastic). You probably discovered the 16 is put together similarly. Awesome lenses in most other ways! Yeah, that 11 from Sony looks great. I do all my ultra-wide stuff with the Loawa 9mm, so I haven't been able to warrant the purchase. I use it closed down most of the time, so the lack of AF isn't an issue. The Loawa is so small, I almost always have it with me.

Hi, what camera and lens are you using for this sit down video?

Hi! I'm doing all the talking head stuff with a Sony FX30 (so same image/sensor you'd get from the a6700), and the lens is the Sigma 30mm F1.4 Contemporary. I'd recommend the Sigma 23mm F1.4 as a more practical option over the 30mm if you're in a smaller space. I was using the 23mm until I dropped it onto my concrete floor!

I was just using my Sigma 16 today... On my zve1 it's terrific but if I didn't have it, I would probably pick up the 15 (because of the size but thats interesting about the barrel distortion) or 11 f1.8. Great vid as usual!

Hey Brian! 30 minutes in and already a comment from the man himself! One thing I didn’t mention was that although I love how light the 15 is, I find the 16s weight nicer to keep steady shooting video 🤷🏻‍♂️.

@@chosenideahandle that's pertinent info, too! More positive rationalizing for me to save money and not buy another lens that I don't need! Thank you!!

@@BrianCatalano Ha ha! I wish there was enough positive rationalizing here when it comes to staying away from new camera stuff lol. No buyer's remorse here, but always some anxiety. I didn't think I'd do anything paid with the new camera, but a last minute thing came up with my architectural photo client. I shot his daughter's engagement party on the weekend with the a6700 (yes, one card slot). My FX30 won't trigger a flash, and he needed someone! It'll cover the camera at least.

@@chosenideahandle I mean, your intentions of going minimal is inspiring enough, and two cameras makes the most sense (one for the studio and for client work) and one for personal or bts. I think you've got a great set up... that I too am trying to replicate. I have the FX3 rigged up for clients (like your fx30) and now trying to decide between the zve1 or A7Cii for traveling as you would use your a6700.
I will worry about minimizing lenses after that if I have any will-power left over!

@@BrianCatalano Yes, I remember you have the FX3! That thing is so crazy capable. You see that film "The Creator" yet? I'm sure you know they shot it with the FX3👀.

are you in auto or manual mode with condo shot

Hi! I shot that with an aperture so small I knew I was in focus throughout (peaking also told me), but I did place my selective focus box over the cat just incase. The camera itself is always in complete manual mode. Good question!

I have the sony a6700 and have had the sigma 16mm. I now have the Sigma 30mm and the new sigma 10-18mm (f2.8). The sigma 16mm (F1.4) is a fantastic lens, and HALF the price of the sony 15mm lens sigma $399 (even cheaper when you get slightly used or open box) vs Sony 15mm ($760).

Yes, the 16 is a great lens and amazing value! I use my 30 in the studio to shoot my talking-head. How do you like the 10-18 so far?
