This was my Dad’s favorite song for my Mom. After 59 years of marriage, she left us suddenly with a massive heart attack. I miss her terribly but he’s truly lost without his best friend. Love Don Williams and love your reactions.
As a wreckless and love struck youngster I copied the lyrics to this song and gave them to my Girlfriend. She never found out what I had done until after we were together for 4 years and my dad, knowing the story, thought it would be funny to play the song. I dead panned looked at her as I saw it starting to register and said "What are the odds of that?". 😂

This was my mom's favorite song. She met my dad when she was 12 and he was 14. They married six years later. I can remember my mom putting a Don Williams album on the record player and when this song came on, she would yell for my dad to come dance with her. As they slowly danced across the floor, she would sing this song to him. They were married for 54 years before she passed away and this was the only song my dad requested for her funeral.

Don had the most rich, smooth, buttery baritone voice in country music. Only Merle Haggard was possibly smoother, but he was a tenor and got all the accolades for all of his original song writing. Don was probably the most underrated and overlooked country singer when it came to CMA acknowledgments because he was so unassuming on stage and not flashy. His voice just commanded attention. His I Believe In You, and Lord, I Hope This Day is Good are two of the many strings of hits he had.
Even back in the day when I hated most country music, I'd listen to Don Williams and be glad for the opportunity. The guy knew his way around a song.

You are a cool person. I still maintain, to this day, that you can tell a LOT by a person's singing voice/persona. I have NEVER known a psychopath who could sing in a way that truly touches your heart. They are just not capable of it. To sing in a way that touches your heart (even instantly) means that you are really connected to the human condition and care about people at a fundamental level. Hope you cover more of Don Williams, especially 'Listen on the Radio.'

Saw him (front row, center) at small venue in Lubbock TX about 8-10 years ago. Man’s voice was still like velvet.

I watched this again and I'm in tears again. I lost my wife in 1980 and hearing this is truly kicking me right in the heart. Wow, I'm turning into a sentimental old fool. I too admire Don Williams very low bass, as-well-as his choice of songs. That's it, I can't watch this again for a while.
Britt, Don Williams was my first wife's favorite singer and this piece says it all. I was crying by the time I got to the end of this song. As you said, this is a beautiful love song and it describes how I felt and treated my wife. We were best friends. Most nights we would spend at least an hour in bed just talking about the day and our kids. Hearing this again reduced me to a puddle of tears. That's all I can write, I'm about to crack again.
