The scary thing is she didn't even have a technically perfect race, she stuttered a few times and stumbled a little after the first hurdle on the home stretch. It's nothing big but I think she still has a few tenths to drop, and she said the same in her post-race interview that she thinks she can still go faster.

Yes and I think she jumps too high over the hurdles losing time in the air.

In every race I’ve seen so far this championship, she has been the most focused of all athletes. She can run high high 48 open 400m right now.

Her record is worth 1313 points and that converted to 400m is 47.39s. I’m not saying that she’ll ever run that fast but she’s very capable of running sub 48 flat or around the wr.

Ranking Sydney number 2 behind Femke Bol is an injustice, no disrespect to Bol but what Sydney has done leading up to Tokyo and since Tokyo should have her ranked at number 1 since Tokyo.

I think that the 400m hurdles are both improving a lot because people are training for it like a full sprint which they never did that in the past. The strategy has changed and the times are plummeting for both the men and women as a result. Shaving over 1.5 seconds from Muhammed's WR is just insane. I can only imagine this must feel pretty demoralizing for the other women in the event but inspiring at the same time. Who would have thought that the 400m hurdles would become the most exciting event in track and field on both men and women's side?

She has no stress in the way she runs. When she runs you can't tell she running hard. I am 61 I started running track and long distance races when I was 14, she is the most natural runner I have ever seen. I believe she really doesn't like running that much.

she’s jumping over hurdles for a full lap! I have no clue but I’m 100% that takes a lot of energy vs just running one lap. 46.08 400 flat WR? USA had 0 women in the 400 flat and 4 in the 400 m hurdles finals. Amazing performance! I felt like I was there it was so amazing to watch!

Conversion rate is only around two seconds. This record will not last 20 years. 400m hurdles events are finally being represented by the top athletes. It has historically been under represented and under optimised with exercise science. This is why we are seeing huge improvements in hurdles but little improvements in 400 flat.

that is a record that will stay for at least 20years, maybe forever. This was a perfect race and conditions. Sydney will not run this event at next championships, 400m flat will be almost guaranteed. Would run 48 low at now, wanna see to make it real, because it is not so easy to convert. But she runs 400m like Miller uibo, same ease and consistancy. What makes sydney better than miller uibo is that force with every step to the rack, that comes from the hurdles training.

@@TeeDominique0675 only way we don't advance from the prelims is if we don't get the baton around the track.
That said, the finals will be tough. All of the best American 400 runners don't compete in the event and already have tons of races and wear and tear on their bodies-- Steiner has had an absolutely loaded schedule since NCAA finals, Athing would've just finished her 800 right before the 4x4, and Sydney just went full out to smash her own world record. Our fastest 400 flat runner this year is Talitha Diggs and her all time best is merely a 49.99 (though she has a bright future at only 19).
The Dominicans will be tough to beat in the finals.
