In this video we're going to to take a look and review the JYETech DSO150 digital oscilloscope. An oscilloscope is an essential tool in electronics but its price may be demotivating for electronics hobbyists. The DSO150 low cost oscilloscope may cost between $25 and $40. This oscilloscope doesn’t replace a real oscilloscope, but it is good enough for hobbyists looking to debug low frequency signals or for learning purposes.

Thank you for this useful post Rui. I come from a developing country - as they call it - Madagascar, where most of westerner educational devices are horribly expensive. This tiny oscilloscope is beyond not just an affordable solution but beyond a simple gadget IMHO. I love your videos especially those dealing with ESP32... Keep it up Rui!
Thanks Jean!
I received exactly this model with the same 10x/1x clips yesterday. After one hour of watching many reviews, tests and application videos on YT I found this video. It is fabulous in its way it explains how to operate this mini oscilloscope. Thanks for your effort! It is exactly what I needed. Gerard, the Netherlands.
Je heb deze nu 1 jaar . Hoe is je ervaring er mee? Wilde deze zelf ook kopen namelijk.
Excellent review! I had not used an oscilloscope since college many years ago. This video was just what I needed to get re-oriented. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the excellent review. Take care from Canada... Mike
I have a similar scope from AliExpress that was in the $15 range and also bought the function generator you're using for about $8 if I remember correctly. Both have been incredibly useful, so while I can't recommend this specific scope, I can certainly recommend buying these low cost products if you want to tinker but keep the costs down.
(Almost) all of the functionality very well explained in less than 7 minutes. Thanks!
Very helpful thanks.
Do you think it would be usable for calibrating an audio system? (just look if a sinusoidal wave is clipping) -thanks in advance...
is this oscilloscope still reliable for nowadays? or is there any better handheld oscilloscope?
thanks
Thank you for this very educational video.
I got the dyi version of this scope and put it together, it works great. The only thing i don't like about it, is there's no manual showing how to operate the dang thing.
Hi and thanks for the review. Do you think I can use it to check a serial uart communication?
I want to test whether an inverter is modified or pure sine wave. I bought it second hand so only have their word. Don't want to spend a lot of money on an Oscilloscope, will this one be ok for my test? thanks
Can this be used to check the sine wave of a power inverter?
you know a lot about this stuff im just getting into this. could you tell me if this would work on a car to check to see if there is a data stream to ecu or signal to maf etc
Are 200 KHz enough for displaying automotive Canbus signals?
Thank you, this was really infornative.
I need one of those oscilloscopes.
But due to many budget cuts and work issues, it isn’t that easy to afford an oscilloscope, even the DSO150 :(
Hi Rui, I just bought a DSO digital oscilloscope, I want to measure up to 480 Volt 60 Cycle AC, And this scope do it? I suspect with the correct probe, I can. If so, what kind of probe do I need and where can I buy one? Thanks, Jef
Thank for the video.
Could you explain the meaning of the three Trigger Modes?
The trigger modes determine the conditions for starting the sweep of the signal across the display from left to right. Normal means that the sweep will start tracing only when the signal "meets the trigger condition" (matches the preset trigger level and upward or downward slope). If the signal does not vary across the trigger level, then nothing will be displayed. Auto is similar to Normal, except that when the signal does not cross the trigger level, there will still be a display. In this case, a periodic signal such as a square or sine wave may not be locked in a stable position horizontally, but will slide or jitter sideways on each sweep, until the trigger level is changed to fall within the voltage range of the signal or the signal level changes so as to cross the trigger level. Single means that the sweep will only start once, the first time the trigger condition is met. Since this scope is a "storage" type, it will hold that display until the trigger is "reset" (probably by pressing the Trigger button) and will then wait for the next time the signal meets the trigger condition. If this were an old-fashioned scope without storage, Single would only show the waveform "live" during the sweep duration and then disappear.
Can I use it to set gains to amplifiers 1200 rms class D to check distortion
Can i measure my audio signals with it ? I'm trying to make audio amplifiers and efffects like distortion pedal. Is it proper enough for this case ? I can only afford this model.
Didnt work well for me.
I recommend using a regulated power supply, otherwise you will see the ripple.
Thank you!
Could I use this to check if a AC power inverter is a square wave vs a true sine wave?
No it can't measure over 50volts max. Any over WILL damage!!!
@@keithking1985 You can use a probe with enough attenuation though. 10x or 100x
Can i use it to test Arcade PCB Games?
This oscilloscope contains CRT or not?
not very accurate he says, but did not calibrate the scope on the ground setting first
Aren't out there any oscilloscopes that cost a little more and offer more bandwidth? Not talking about PC oscilloscopes
Damn, is that display crooked
