Your video was helpful. I appreciate it. The music was irritating. Your voice is very nice. You don’t even need music. Maybe leave it off. Thank you for helping us with the tension on stretchy fabric.
I have been sewing for more than 60 years. Here is a hint. SLOW DOWN. When yo sew so fast, your hands lose control or possibly drag and stretch the fabric a little.
Great video and exactly what I needed. I don't have a walking foot and won't anytime super soon. I don't mind the music. I could hear ever word you said clear and perfect. Thank you!!
Your content is excellent. Thanks for the tutorial to help make my stretchy seams less wavy. It never occurred to me to adjust the stitch length. Thank you!
That machine also has a presser foot pressure adjustment. If it is too much pressure it will make fabric wonky and too little pressure and seam line will be crooked. Thanks for making this video.
I was looking for help with this issue. I came across your video. Thank you. You are a very good instructor/teacher. It has been a while and I needed a refresher. I have sewn for many years. The fabric I'm trying to hem and repair is already running. Hoping a new hem will keep it from running or raveling. Your voice is beautiful. To me the music was annoying.
Thank you very much for your kind words! We are glad to help the sewing community worldwide in whatever way we can. Stretch fabric is a different ball game after all 🧵 Thanks for your music feedback too 🙏🏻
This video is exactly what I needed! I’m currently sewing on a Singer machine that is about 60 yrs old. I bought a new sewing machine exactly like yours about 5 yrs ago and I’m afraid to use it. It’s still in the box. Lol Thank you so much for the info.
Hi! Thank you for these instructions about tension. I've always done it by trial and error, and it would take forever to finally hit upon the right combination. I'm not a seamstress-- I only use my machine occasionally. I have a question. When I was learning to sew a long, long time ago, I was taught that when sewing stretchy or knit fabrics, I needed to pull/stretch the fabric as I was stitching. I noticed that you did not do that on your sample pieces of fabric. Is pulling on it just not necessary?
@@SisterBaby ribbing is what would be used for neckbands and cuffs... Some people stretch the fabric when they want to use a straight stitch because if u don't, the seam will pop once the garment is worn. You don't have to stretch the fabric if use a stretch stitch (any zig zag or the triple stitch) or if you use a serger. You actually dont want to stretch your fabric if you're using the correct stitch because it will cause wavy seams. I hope this helped.
Hey Canny! Glad you have found this sewing video most useful! You dont need to keep going through trial and error, there are better ways to sew. Our online courses go through that because sewing SHOULD NOT be frustrating!! Sandra has gone through all the frustrations, so really, there's no need to put yourself through it. in essence, some fabrics would require stretching and some dont. It depends on the fabric, mainly how soft the fabric is. Ultimately, you need to be the judge but just bear in mind that over stretching the fabric is a problem. The seams will start to wave and that's not what you want, you always need a strong seam!! This reply should answer your questions, feel free to hit us up anytime!
I use antique sewing machines, for instance my favorite is a Singer from the early 1900’s with a hand crank 😊. What is “tension” in this instance? I’m torn between 1) How you stretch the fabric under the needle or 2) How hard the foot is pressing down?
Thank you very helpful, how do you keep from your sewing machine catching the material in the teeth ? Been learning on my own but not sure if I need to buy a better machine or what kind , I have a brother SN 530 T I always fight to get my material to glide threw . Thank you very much.
Hi Cynthia! Choose a footer that helps, we recommend the footers we sell, or you might be able to find it in your local sewing supplies store. Another trick is to give a bigger seam allowance or use a piece of paper underneath that would help prevent all these from happening. Try it and let us know how it works!!
Ive been experimenting and trying to make my own bikini and its my first time to make one. Your video really help me to figure out the tension and the right lenght for spandex thank you so much!❤
Thank you, I could not get the straight stitch to go right on my jersey fabric but after changing the tension it is perfect!. My only criticism on you video is the music, as I found it hard to hear you over it.
Such a shame…. the music volume drive me mad and was distracting from your tuition so I gave up on watching after a couple of minutes! Any chance you could post a music-free version please? I’ve a feeling the tuition would be very good

I am hemming a dance costume made of stretch mesh fabric. Current hem is lettuce stitch. Young lady wants the hem evened up -it's a high/low hem. What is best way to hem on regular machine [Janome]. She said she doesn't care if not a lettuce hem. HELP
Hi there, thanks for your message about sewing dance costumes! Keep up your good work 🧵 What do you mean by what it evened up? A lettuce stitch means that the fabric is still the same length, so by evening it up you mean you want to remove the lettuce stitch?
Hello, I am having trouble sewing stretchy fabric onto stiff fabric. For example, for a project I'm currently working on I need to sew spandex onto canvas. The presser foot causes the spandex to stretch on top of the canvas and I have to fold it over where it gets bunched up in order to keep the length consistent. I tried adjusting the tension and stitch length but it didn't help. Is there any way to fix this?
Iam paying great a-tension 😂 see what I did there ha 👈🏽 on a serious note iam sooo glad you made this video because trying to sew stretch fabric on a sewing machine is a bit of a nightmare 🤔 also it’s important to use the correct needle “stretch needle “ in this case

Hi! I have a few questions… 1. What needle are you using? 2. What threat are you using? 3. My machine (threat) gets stuck.. what’s wrong? 4. Sometimes the threat won’t stitch at al.. what’s wrong? 5. What stitch do I need? Straight or zig zag? 6. When I do zig zag, it looks nothing like zig zag… I think because of the tension? Thanks in advance?
