  • On September 20th 2022 Street Fighter at the Oklahoma State Fair was operating normally. When the ride began to invert a phone fell from a riders pockets onto a rider waiting in the line.

    As a ride operator, it hurts having to see people lacking common sense, ignoring all rules, and pulling their phone during the ride. If you are someone you know pulls their phone out during a ride, remember that incidents like this have your number written on it.

    As a ride operator, I find ot fascinating how many guests don't even notice signs. They often times walk right past 3 signs pointing in the direction of the exit and try to exit out a gate that's labeled "authorized personnel only"

    This is why I always wear pockets with zippers to theme parks. I don’t want to accidentally Jill someone just cause my phone fell out of my pocket

      A friend of mine had his phone fall out of his zipper pocket on vortex at thorpe park, luckily it just landed on a footer

      If you don't have a person Ive found that at least for the parks I've been to you can usually ask the operator to watch your bag for you

      @@ElectriKong- With convenient placement, not on the other side on the side where you have to step over the ride or step over someone already sitting in the ride to get to it, and park policy stating not responsible for _stolen_ property needs to be addressed, if security is an issue, people sure as hell don't want to lose their most expensive daily carry, so if there's no lockers, like if it's just a shelf or a paid locker, they're probably going to try to keep it on their person. Rides that have built in phone pouches are also a great solution to the issue.

      I'm normally this person, I have crippling anxiety that physically keeps me from going on almost all rides and all my friends understand this so they buy me food in exchange for holding their belongings throughout their trip. win-win!

    Kinda reminds me of the time my sister's phone fell out of her pocket when she was on the Ring of Fire ride at the local fair we always go to. Knowing it could've ended way worse kinda scares me. I hope the person who got hit is ok and is recovering/has recovered well.

    This unfortunately happened to me. Thank God my phone did not hit anyone! I was about 16 with my now husband and we went on this EXACT ride. I asked the male worker if I need to leave my phone and wallet, and he said exactly "No, why would you?".
    I felt it fly out of my back jean pocket and saw it shatter on the ground.
    This could have been caused by some underpaid, under trained carnival worker. Or, the guy was just dumb and tried to pull it out 🤷‍♀️

    As someone working at a SoCal park I have to deal with people taking their phones out all the time. I wish they would live in the moment and for once stop trying to get instant gratification on social media.

      They need to either get those glasses with cameras built on or use GoPros strapped on. It’s ridiculous and many phones are too skinny to have proper grips to even feel secure. They also need to install medal detectors at rides like Universal did

    The only ride i ever seen truly enforce no cell phones is Steel Vengeance at cedar point; they literally make you walk thru a metal detector.

    That's one of the only rides I was almost top scared to ride at my local fair. Just don't trust stuff that gets thrown up in a days time lol and that one looks really high in person.

    I saw a phone fly off Serengeti Flyer at Busch Gardens Tampa. Hit the tarps above the queue and fell. The phone survived

    This is a fairly common occurrence. When I was waiting in line for a Booster Pendulum ride and someone's phone went flying off. Luckily it didn't actually hit anyone, because that thing was going super fast.

    This is why Universal makes people go through medal detectors before going on rollercoasters. People are too selfish to secure their stuff or they misjudge the security of their pockets

    Hi!! I was there i think the day before it happened? Me and my friend went on some of the rides, not that ride specifically, pendulum rides scare me lol
    They really didnt have a strict cell phone policy, i had my cellphone secure in my pocket and never went on any inverting/looping rides, but if i did then i wouldve left my phone next to the operator because like... what did they think would happen lol, that gravity would just turn off or smthn??

    Used to be a clear box of phones at the entrance to Diamondback at King's Island as a warning to guests....don't have you fucking phone out on a ride.

    My iPhone 6S dropped from my pocket straight to the pavement from a ride pretty much that height. By some miracle it dropped to the restricted area and had no scuffs or cracks

    Its not a ride issue its a ride operator mistake not telling the customer to leave their mobile phones and the safety envelope is not safe, should adjust more the fence.

      Murder is intentional and premeditated, homicide is intentional but not premeditated. The term your looking for is negligent manslaughter but since that didn't happen and she survived, you'd probably get something like "Unintentional Tort" which just means you were negligent and your actions caused injury. That's not even technically a crime.

    This is why I usually have my dad carry my stuff when I go on rides, because there's a high chance they will fall out of my pocket and i wanna record myself riding these rides and make a POV but I'm too scared too

      don't make a POV unless you have a bodycam or something similar that attaches to you. if you're just holding it, even if you think your grip is tight enough, that's how you end up like situations like the one in this video

    Completely the phone owners fault. Not the ride operator at all. If you are gonna ride any kind of thrill ride you should have a back or bag of some kind keep your stuff in it and leave it on the deck of the ride. You can’t expect the operators to be frisking people to see if they have loose items that might fall out of their pockets. I can’t even imagine the wait times.

      Any phone of any size is not allowed on rides like these, because your pockets aren't magical things.
