    Good to find an Aussie channel reviewing this gear, keep it up :-) Edit... P.S. good tip about using as a hot water bottle.

    The half moon shaped scraper is for fluffing up tinder wicks, tho it can be used for scraping in general.

    I was using the half moon end to strike the ferro rod like a fool. After watching this realised it’s better to use the side bit like you.

    G-day Charmaine ☺ thanks for a look at that compact cook kit, looks like good quality gear, it would be interesting to see what else you could squeeze into it, I will take a look at your other videos, always ready to pick up different ideas, thanks for the video, stay safe girl, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart uk.

    The canteen set is based on the 1910 military canteen. Those are designed for the Esbit stove and open fire (that's why it has three contact points). You can place it on any folding stove that uses fuel tablets.
    PS the original canteen set replica is cheaper to buy but tougher to clean.

    This edge is for fire starting. In theory it was designed to help pre-srape, but in fact its the mose efficient point for normal sparking.

    How are you finding the caribee ranger backpack? Does it have enough space for all your bushcraft / hiking needs? Was thinking of getting one also in combination with the pathfinder set. I already have the combat 32 but I’m finding it a bit too Bulky. Would you recommend switching?

    I’ve watched a few of your videos and can I make 1 suggestion for a piece of gear to add. Leather gloves. I always have a set in my pack for when I’m cutting firewood and grabbing anything off a cooker/fire. They’re not fire proof but saves burning your skin on a touch or bump.
    Keep up the good work 👍🏼

    Thanks for the review Charmaine C. Just a quick question about the stainless bits… Does the cup lid nest at the bottom of the stove and then the cup on top or is the lid too large of a diameter to fit in the stove?

    • @rusticcharnanigan
      @rusticcharnanigan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just checked. The lid does not nest in the stove it’s too big unfortunately 😬

    The only thing I don't like about the water bottle is the plastic lid. Which means you can put it in a fire to boil water, but you have to make sure the fire doesn't melt the lid. But that's really my only gripe. Why they didn't make the lid metal, is beyond me.

    do those things burn long enough to bring a boil?

    • @rusticcharnanigan
      @rusticcharnanigan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends how the size and quantity of the sticks you are using to keep the fire burning, for me I once used only little twigs so it took ages nearly 25 min!

  • @birdbrainsolutions6112
    @birdbrainsolutions6112 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you're going to chuck the stove onto the fire, then what is the point of using the stove in the first place (other than added stability)? You can use the bottle and cup in the fire directly
    Asking seriously btw, not being sarcastic

    • @rusticcharnanigan
      @rusticcharnanigan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My two reasons are cause of what you said stability and also last time I chucked the cup straight in the fire, I’m not sure why (this could just be my exp) but the wood left a sticky residue on my cup that took like 3 business days to wash off 😅 after that I wasn’t keen to try again
