What a great man and character, politicians of his quality, beliefs and integrity sadly missed today.

What a man. A representation of the old Labour which I fear has slid from view. Just proof that just because you've been brought up in a privileged background, doesn't mean you have to keep to that old boy clique; like Atlee, he was a materially privileged man who wanted to make a difference. That coupled with the best ever guest on the Ali G Show.

you may grow into it--it is expected , as a result of lifes experiences, so long as you learn from them, and make good use of it.

Didn't share his politics but his morality and integrity were without question. Truly to be admired.

Dont like the way Stadlen laughs at Benn all the time about his stopwatch/ brief answers. Stadlen’s posh public school manner is quite annoying at times.

Although I didn't always agree with Tony I found him reasonably trust worthy

He may have the looks of a cuddly grandad, but he was an ideological fantasist amd above all an ambitious narcissist, with a side-line in paranoia (see his audio taping habits). He damaged the cause of the left hugely because he had a messiah complex and could never earn the trust of most ordinary people.

Tony Benn answered this beautifully. This was considered a grilling? No one can counter Mr. Benn. I miss Tony Benn. We don't have many men like him anymore in socialist Britain, of his utter integrity.

all these years later and still miss him - I'd love to hear his take on Brexit (he was anti-EU unlike the current left of today)

    • @MrDaiseymay

YES---he and Corbyn sang from the same sheet, since their younger earlier days, except, Corbyn became manipulated by the Unions.

I too was not a complete fan of Tony's politics, but now I am older, I understand him much better. The greatest cause of change for me, was his forceful speeches, against the EU, and the danger's of joining it, back in the 1970's. Also, during our more recent campaign to force a referendum. His most memorable warning was put this way--and I paraphrase--'' If you ,the people, cannot remove those who rule over you, make your laws, collect your taxes, etc , then you do NOT--live in a Democracy; never lose it''. Given that his son Hilary, appose's his father's great warning and with it , our loss of democracy, i'm wondering if Hilary ever had the guts to say so in front of his father; because, quite clearly, he can only be seen as a traitor.

With a name like Hilary do you think he had the balls to do that? :)

It's 6.26 so where are you Ritchie ?
Tony Benn was part of a traiitorous Anti-British Labour Party, an eminence grise behind the scenes. A "wise" Counsel who hadn't a clue how most Working Class (WC) people lived and survived. I came from a staunch Labour area. They even had their National HQ in our High Street and a bigger bunch of idiots you could not meet.Over the years The "friends of the people" Labour Party have brought in "FOBT's" thus destroying the lives of endless, already impoverished families. They also deprived decent hard-working WC families of giving their progeny a real chance in life by abolishing Grammar Schools in the pursuit of an idealistic equality system that, because of human nature, could never happen.
Then there is the little matter of Labour actively encouraging Mass Immigration destroying the indigenous Culture in hundreds of English areas not to mention totally marginalising WC wages for the locals who have to endure our Cost of Living expenses.
The realreason for the floodgates to be open was that Labour, traditionally, knew that over 80% of recent arrivals who do vote, vote Labour as London has, clearly, demonstrated.
All the time VISCOUNT Tony and his pals like Harriet Harman, the girl from the Block. Brixton Hill Estate? Stonebridge Park Estate,London Fields? Nah ! HARLEY STREET before she went to a Fee=paying school that is, lived far away from the madding crowd. Our "Tone" is his Hollad Park mansion...lol
The ONLY good thing he did was support Nationalised Industries, like the one I had 16 glorious years in , with our 2/3 lunches and sick day rotas and a £350,000 Pension ( if I live to the average Male age) for an £8,400 contribution. I even wrote 2 letters in my last year at work as a little ,personal, Thank You........:)

Read a book or two? That's why I am called "Over-Knowledge".
The problem for,I presume, a leftie Idealist such as your not-so-good self is that I live in the real world and you, "probably" live in an Utopian paradise which is fine..in theory. Do you believe in the dumbing down Comprehensive school system, per exemple, messieur ?
