    Set-ups will vary depending on how much time you have to do it and how long you plan on staying. Thank you for sharing this information with us, Matt. Stay safe and stay cool

      You bet! This is a very versatile tent. There are still a lot of ways that I could go with it...

    Being an old school Ranger, we'd make extensive use of the ponchos in building shelters. However, I've spent plenty of time with the shelter halves in basic. We didn't vary too far from standard setup, as the Drill Sgt. would have us for breakfast! 😂 That was in the 60's.
    Years later, as a Scoutmaster, myself and the other Scoutmaster in our troop, often used the "Skeeter-bar" and shelter halves for long-term camping.
    Our troop were called "The Gravel Crushers" by the other troops in the area. Unlike the others, we refused to have trailers filled with gear to camp. We marched to our campsite with everything in our packs. The other Scoutmasters really disliked us for being a troop that were, as they said "Too hardcore", shunning the easy-way with tons of gear trailered in.
    Over a 10 year period I was the Scoutmaster of the troop, one boy became a Ranger, three Marines, and seven infantrymen. I was proud of them all. 😁🫡
    And those young men told me later that basic training was a cakewalk as they'd been exposed to roughing it as boys in our Scout troop.

      That is a great story! You should be very proud of the young men that you mentored...

    All of these are great. As long as there's a mosquito net, then that would work for me!

    I like the Palm Beach setup because it has enough space for a cot. On rainy days you have to convert one side to the Ground Pounder setup to avoid the roof-puddle and wet feet. I would love to see the 10 person setup with six tent halves ('nam era). Never seen it in real life.

    First FTX you go on that's not too buttoned down, the guy's Iearn aII the combinations that have been discovered time-after-time to pitch. You can do endless designs it seems. 2 haIves-one camper is the most comfortable and gives plenty of room and store you gear.

    I live in one of those its good during the winter time too. i like the original setup with the bug net outside of the tent. If you can get the military tent with the snaps on the bottom you could put in a floor with another tent.

    There's some great ideas there. Have you tried any set ups with longer poles using the shelter halves as you would a traditional tarp to make a shelter you can stand under? I've not had chance to experiment yet to see if the triangular ends would be useful or just get in the way.

      Thanks! No I have not experimented with longer poles just for the sake of using the stock ones in different set ups, but it is a novel idea!

    I think the Classic + pitch with the bug net in nice weather and the Ground pounder in bad weather.

    spent a few nights in basic January '68' at Fort Lewis snowed 1 foot over night had a good nights sleep. We did a 12 mile force march with over shoes over our combat boot .We did it with M-14s and packs in 3 hours the next day..The shelter halves work great .

    Does anyone know what the snaps are called? Im trying to find some replacements

    • @FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival
      @FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unless you want a double sided snap, which you really don't need, you can just get regular snaps and they will work. You can get snap kits at your local craft store...
