- We ruined a super rare car- a stock mk2 gti but I promise it will be worth it. This thing will be running and I will be living out my HS dreams in just a few weeks! I am so excited!

Grew up driving early 80s diesel rabbits (dad had 3 at one point lol) and I love this series. Can't wait to see what kind of solid driver is going to come of this
H&R coilovers on my MK2 were amazing. With 400/300 rates on a 16v the ride was absolutely perfect, such great damping. 500's in the front would probably be great for the VR.
I've got a mk6 r might mess with the suspension soon would these work well if you're going for good track based handling?
@@blitzrc4713 They're such different platforms I couldn't really say... but you can't go wrong with H&R or KW. Good suspension is well worth the money. Cheap coilovers with stiff springs will beat you up, but good coilovers with proper damping will still be pretty comfortable on the street.
@@DullBoyJack thanks mate it's pretty killer stock and takes bumps well but bit bouncy put in a rear brace and looking for a front strut brace I'll see after that enjoy that MK2 mate🤟

This was the kind of experience I was seeking when I built my car, but I ended up alone on the floor on my back with little help. I wish I had a group of friends who would dive into projects like this with me, but my lack of community is one of the reasons I'm thinking about selling my completed project car, because I'm not sure what to do with it now that it's done. The one friend who did help me blew up my transmission when I let him drive it and he never spoke to me afterwards... I live in an area known for hot rods, but I'm an outcast to them because I built a JDM ('98 Subaru Impreza coupe with a WRX swap), and they require the car to be at least 30 years old to be in their group. Regardless of the hobby, it always comes back to the community and the people. Friends make a shared passion so much more fun!

I'm currently in the middle of my own build. At a similar point where everything is apart and I'll just be in the garage staring at the mess I've made. Much like the guys staring at the wiring harness at 17:08. Thanks for motivating me to get back to work!

Great video! The pedal box misery reminds me of when I did my vr swap 23 years ago, on Dads drive, in the snow! Still got mine, turbo’d now and track duties mainly.
You’ve gone so far with it I’d put and lsd in it whilst it’s apart, makes a world of difference, especially if you decide to add boost later

Might be a little late notice but my brother has a 2001 Jetta GLX 5 speed that he’s trying to get rid of for like 1500, isn’t running there’s a crack on the lower timing chain cover but before that it was running well, engine makes good compression. Already have the cover but we just haven’t got around to changing it out yet

Worked on Audi’s on the east coast for years. I remember moving back to the west coast and thinking “wow these cars come apart easy” 😂 no more cutting exhaust bolts

Don't sweat it I've always had a small group of good friends who are into cars but never have had the time etc to have that happen either despite my best efforts my health is shit now so can't but haven't given up the dream so don't you either 🤟

You're going to use the Mk4 head gasket to bump compression up some, right? I love the RML wheels, too bad they won't work on the new 5x100 setup.
I (I am RML lol) have 5x100 but Vin thinks he knows best 😜

not for nothing but, the engine on the tool box deal, that's actually kind of genius. keep the box empty and as you pull parts off and out you can stick 'em in the 'box to keep them neat and safe... and from growing feet. I'll have to file that idea.
This car is exactly the GTI I also dreamt of in high school.

Just a heads up for anyone doing this swap, you don’t have to change the pedal assembly. You can run an adapter to make the cable and hydraulic stuff work together. No issues for 5+ years in my VR6 Rabbit.
