Men excited
Men watches 48:10 minutes straight
Men happy
Men agree

Man thinks - felt like 5 min, want more!
Men cries at cylinder 12
I gotta say, that 12th cylinder was sadder than the Titanic😢
haha, the music was quite fitting too
Que the no no no, wait wait wait meme
Damn😢 the last cilinder😢😢
Az biztos is bro :c
Alpina cant make engines To Last 😂
C’mon Frankfurt, find Sreten the dream workshop he deserves.
Frankfurt/Oder just entered the chat .....
You HAVE to send Jason that hat. That's right up his alley. Imagine him driving Vangina with that hat on.
All M539 videos should now start with: "Previously on M539..." :D
In the same voice as the LOST TV series. 😅 "Previously on LOST..."
It would make keeping track of all the projects easier
How did he get Batman to do the voiceover?
@@Amadeus_Flyfishingmaybe they're working on reaching and agreement for the batcave. In a world full of broken oil dripping bmws ONLY a man can save them from being replaced by eléctric toasters. Enter Streten. Not the hero BMW wants but the One we need
We really need an entire restoration of this car Sreten
Damn I thought it was Streten.
The roll in at 2:15 is peak cinematography
I love also that he jump out and start presenting the car with music still playing
Couldn't wait for this one - was almost as giddy when I got the notification as you when the actual car arrived! Big bummer for the engine damage, but I have absolutely no doubt that you'll pull through and find a way to fix all of this back to OEM(+) standard, including the body damage. Looking forward & happy to be part of this & support you!
Ran a 6.0 for several years (#55) - optically stunning cars. That said, they suffer from two (in my view) fundamental flaws: (i) excessive oil consumption / scored cylinder bores; and (ii) broken gearboxes. Mine was also on its second engine, replaced at Alpina with the last 6.0 block they had in stock. After 20-30K on the new engine, same issue again with oil consumption and blue smoke. Given the frequency of this occurrence over just 94 cars, one has to wonder whether there is an issue with the underlying design. The 5.7s, for example, don't have the same issue and are generally regarded as much more reliable. The recommendation from Alpina at the time was to run 10-60 weight oil. Re the gearboxes, they don't stand up well to the additional torque of the 6.0 and all cars I know of (including mine) have needed a new torque converter from ZF.
Thanks for sharing the info! This is what I've been hearing, 6.0 has the tendency to eat itself. Seems the block is stressed out. We'll see what I can do about that. Re gearbox, given that it's also on the 2nd gearbox, might be a good opportunity to upgrade to 8 HP. :D
Interesting Information. I was under the impression that it was only the first ones that were troublesome, and ALPINA fixed the problem after a Serial number That I can't remember now, but between #25-30 of the Short wheelbase version. thanks for the info!
I wonder if over-boring the cylinders leaves the wall thickness too thin causing things to move around/warp too much.
Given all this I think it's pretty certain to be a design issue, or more likely just reaching the limits of what the M73 block can handle without some more major changes (i.e something similar to the S70). I thought the same might be true of the ZF 5HP30 but looking it up they put that same box in the DB7 and Arnage, which pushed far more power, so hm... wonder what the root cause for that is (tbf I've heard of regular E38 750s with various gearbox issues).
CAN I SAY, I JUST FOUND THIS CHANNEL YESTERDAY BY CHANCE. ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT. A BIG THANK YOU FROM GLASGOW, SCOTLAND

This video made me so sad😢. The Alpina deserves all the love in the world. Can't wait for a million subscribers you deserve them all.
Bought an Mk2 Jag ten years ago now, it had been run on LPG all its life and one owner who has passed away leaving the car parked up for several years, his son sold the car because when he got it started it was blowing smoke, he said so in a similar manner to yourself I thought I would check the cylinders for wear, it had, after all, some 112 thousand miles on the clock.
What we found was nothing short of amazing. The engine had suffered almost no cylinder wear at all, The oil in the sump was the next surprise as to how clean it was and the head, no carbon at all and the seats as you say mint. The smoke, what there was actually came from a broken valve stem seal that probably happened because it stuck to the stem while it was parked for so long and got torn when the guy was trying to start it again.
We had thought to pull the LPG out but after seeing how well the engine looks we have left it alone. 30 plus thousand miles later we still run it almost every day and its a joy to drive on our stunted motorways.
Looking into LPG it appears this sort of thing is unusual, the engines seem to wear very little, far less carbon build up if any.
Yes, that's true. LPG burns very clean and actually have higher octane rating than petrol. Much cleaner oil and less carbon buildup. However it's more bad on valves and valve seats due to higher temperature, can be managed with good instalation and tuneup. Also it corrode exhaust more from the inside because condensation from burning lpg is corrosive.
Had several LPG converted cars from the "below 1000,- €" price bracket over several decades. A w123 280T with over 500.000 km, two different Matra Espace II V6 with 490.000 and over 600.000 km, a Honda Shuttle with roundabout 450.000 km, an XM V6 with 300.000 km and a DS21ie also with over 400.000 km - LPG cars are for long-distance drivers, obviously. I just got 'em cheap when they were already well preloved, and I was with each'n every one of these cars surprised about the clean, well working engines, and I am pretty sure that LPG was one major, if not *_the_* factor why they kept up that well. They eat spark plugs like there is no tomorrow (I changed those every 8.500 to 10.000 km), they need to be driven on a whole tank of fuel once in a while to keep the fuel-part running well, which does give the LPG-part its tune, they need to be monitored for overheating when going full throttle for longer stretches because LPG seems to burn somewhat hotter, which also made me go up a notch or two in oil viscosity. Other than that: I would use a well-implemented and tuned LPG-upgrade in any fuel car any day.
I’ve reached the end of the video and noticed that you have TWO LPG tanks there. That’s a relatively rare installation. That car will have about 1,200 km range on LPG alone. Be carful with that stuff,LPG is heavier that air and will sink to any low spots. Leave your door open when messing with it. Also, the reason for the coolant hose on the LPG system is the LPG has to be warmed before it can be gassified. It uses the coolant to do that.
1200km range on LPG? No fckin way. It's gonna burn AT LEAST 15L/100km, could be double or triple than that easily. How big this tanks can be together? 120L?
@@oluskloc My guess is 100L in the trunk and 60L in spare wheel well. 160L combined would give about 1200km range if driving less than 100km/h on backroads. Autobahn...>20L/100km more likely.
the guy in the truck staring at you throwing the smoothie i cant XD
Man, my heart dropped when I saw that 12th cylinder.. man I wasn't expecting that after all of the other cylinders were in such a great shape..
Alpina E38 might be the prettiest car ever
right off the bat. i love when you are this enthousiastic about a project. your energy is contagious.

The perfect project for this channel!
man, that neighborhood looks gloomy, it's a good thing you are there jumping around in excitement, brightens up the place..
That's Germany for you, they like grey.

That whole Frankfurt area is not exactly lifting your spirits.
I have been your follower since you had 5 K subscribers. I was introduced to your channel by the TH-cam algorithm and Project Dubai got me hooked to your channel in Covid lockdown era. Boy the stars were aligned, to this date I think you are the best automotive youtuber . Your teaching style has taught me a lot. Thank you Sreten
sreten it is about time for a bigger workshop, has been for some time. hope you find the perfect place man.
Thank you! I feel like it's time for the next step.
@@M539Restorations should have done it over a year ago. Better late than never I guess
Sreten if you read this PLEASE check misalignment on the back wheels and the whole assembly.... I had a similar accident on my E39 and most of the time the back assembly gets bent due to the parts being aluminum. It took me lots of time and majstori to figure it out and I ended up replacing the whole back end suspension. Hope its not the case on this one. Good luck on the project its definitely one of the greatest cars ever made! Ziveli!
Get all 94 of them. There is a big Alpina colector near Krakőw Poland.
Mate that's not even a scored cylinder, that a disaster. It looks like Wolverine was marking his territory in there XD
Sretan,
if you ever find a cheap Grundstück, we can build the hall for you. Timber or steel building, with a heated foundation slab. Never getting any cold feet again. Feel free to write back, if interested.

I've heard that animals can tell if someone is a good or bad person. It seems that BMWs with broken engines just love you and always find a way to your dojo. Save them all Dr. Bimmerlitte :)

A decent body shop would make easy work of the rear quarter panel, it might cost you a pretty penny. The bright side is that you can make some unique (to this channel) body work videos similar to Harry’s garage when he has a car restoration job.
Hey, been subscribed for years and love the content. First comment as I am also having to complete a total engine rebuild on our B12 6.0 for exactly the same reason as you - but with your cylinder and the one next to it kaput on ours.... we received the final block / set of cylinders and rings that Alpina had in stock just 2 months ago so sorry that we beat you to that order!! My family has had three of these B12 6.0s and we had a new engine fitted by Alpina on our first at around 65k km due to excessive oil consumption too - it seems the 0w30 was too thin for their modifications and later they revised the oil to use to 10w60 which settled the oil consumption issues on our others. Good luck with it - we are halfway through our rebuild - happy to share images of ours! Best wishes, Jonathan

Greetings from Romania, Sreten! 🎉
me too 🤣
This channel never disappoints! Good luck with the engine building Streten! This is exciting.
Beyond excited for this project as with any other. However, I thought my soul crakced by the cylinder, good lord the LPG and repair on the body broke me, 100%.
Can’t wait to see this one go through, and hope you find a solution to the dojo. Mechanic myself and working in the cold? Unless you’re a total sadist, it’s horrible.. BUT, something had to come clear:
Can’t even hide anymore how much this channel means to me when a new video pops up.
The content, humor, projects and every single video is utterly top notch! Reccomend it to everyone I know (and meet for that matter)
Helps me find a good laugh in dismall times, and for sure the number 1 channel in my eyes.
A small bible from my side, but it’s all meant from the heart.
Sreten, you’re the man and the true milestone of anyone working on cars. Inspire me on a daily basis considering my love for cars, working on cars and me becoming better day by day as a mechanic.
Thank you sincerly, best of wishes from me and every single individual in the car community
If could you can find a new space with heating, having a engine building room would be great!
A 5th alpina wheel in the trunk sure would look nice
I admire your passion and dedication! I’m in Connecticut and bought an E38 M sport from California (no rust) but then found out it was poorly repainted. Otherwise the car has been wonderful, I enjoy taking care of the maintenance myself and fixing any issues. I even installed cup holders from rendition. Enjoy the car, can’t wait to see it finished!
Send it to Arthur Tussik for the left quarterback. That will make a nice colab!
What a way to start the day down under
Indeed mate.
For a minute there I was thinking you are keeping us one are toose.
But to see the last cylinder in that bad a shape, I felt sad for you.
Hopefully the v8s is kinder for you and you can recover some money for this build in time.
On the upside you are almost ready to start Marseilles for the first time!! 🔥
Every time ffs. I’m watching Harry’s Garage and your notification comes up. Got to watch m539.
I just came from Harry’s yacht(M5) video…
I admire the E38 but it's also a bit of a tragedy as we never got a 7 series this memorable or as iconic again, which makes the E38 even more memorable and iconic.
Note that the 740iL in the states also has that “auto start” feature where you turn the key once and let go and the ecu takes care of starting the car. It’s not just in the V12 cars.
No need for apologies for the number of projects, it is your channel and we are here to enjoy our time!🎉😊
I frickin love watching you work Sreten!
i was bit scared in middle of video that you are gona tell us car is for sale ! but i already know you so there is smile back on my face :) this is definetly biggest project of M539 so far.
I was binge watching your older videos not even 4 hours ago hoping for a new upload soon, and you delivered. Thank you
Thank you for saving these 6.0 cars and working with Alpina to start making parts again. Very much appreciated.
So sad the engine is in such poor condition, but if there is a guy that can repair it, he is Sreten!
This channel is just the gift that keeps giving, it gets better and better, does it ever end? I hope not🙏🏻
I love the engine rebuild series but I am looking forward to seeing that quarter panel be completely and OUT THE TOP repaired! We all know Streten and WE all know that will be better than perfect.
You have got some crazy story telling skills, you kept me stuck to your video till the last second....nice content, nice use of words !! Quite knowledgeable as well !
Damn... Engine damage is a bad thing, but that body damage, to do it correctly, it will take time.
Good luck man! We will be here to continue to help you.
Time to contact Alpina and get that engine they promised you,but with 4 more cylinders 😉
Dream spec for me. Dream car. Whatever happens - thank you for doing all the work so little people like me who will never own one in real life can get to enjoy it just a little bit.
Good Luck in your search! I hope you find the right place for your next chapter. And I always appreciate any upload, no matter the project! Cheers.

If you find a BMW that's not leaking oil, there are three possibilities; 1 - It's brand new (just wait a bit), 2 - All the oil has already leaked out, 3 - It's possessed, call an exorcist.
Love the videos!
Streten, that bad cylinder is maybe the best thing that could happen to this Alpina. Wy well, it can now get its LPG removed the proper way.
Looking forward to the video's.
Cannot express how much i love Alpina helping you out. One day i will own one 😅
Balkan man here Sreten..

Absolutely love this guy found him by accident. I dont drive. I dont particularly like BMWS.(Past tense let's apply !) But this content is absolutely riviting and now look forward to seeing the notification for new uploads!
1:43 bit of off topic, but holy moly that's a F150 SVT Lightning in the background?! Which baller driving that thing in Germany haha
Great video. This is one of my favorite channels of all time! Love your Copium with BMW engines though. Having scored cylinders when the vehicle is maintained is bad design, but you are doing what you love so it’s not all too bad and for sure I love watching every second of it!
The other Alpina 2007 E65 had shot cylinders and now this E38 has already had a replacement engine and after 60km the new factory replacement is shot again?
Makes you yearn for a 80s BMW with a M30 3.4 liter.
wish you all the best ! you deserve a bigger and beter place keep the good work your my favorite you tube channel by far .
SLS shocks are still available at BMW, I bought a set for my 750i a couple of months back. The price is about 920€ per unit
Thank you for your entertaining videos and all the energy you put into them!
That LPG installation is pretty much the norm in that industry.. They throw it in, driill a boatload of holes, secure it poorly and call it a day. It's not that complicated, but do expect a botched wiring loom to the injectors, 02 sensors and MAF as those signals are required by the LPG ECU. You also found the T's into the cooling system, every LPG evaporator (you probably have 2) has an inlet and outlet to heat up the LPG before it enters the engine.
Got an e34 lpg. Imo he should keep it. This extend the driving range, yeah it can require some work, but lpg has a better octane than premium and is cheaper.
@@baba0rum There are downsides, for one you shouldn't drive >150km/h for extended periods of time, something that he'll will want to do living next to an Autobahn. And I'm not sure about the regulations in Germany, but in The Netherlands you have to pay more taxes (I had to drive a minimum of 15k/year for it to be cheaper than just throwing in 98). That said, I've never had any issues with my LPG installations, the biggest annoyance was finding a place to get some as most of the installations are being replaced with fast chargers...
@@Zimmernld Any particular reason as to why you can't drive that fast for an extended period of time? I myself am rocking LPG in my e39 525i as well as Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0T and I have never heard anyone say that. Both LPGs were installed by previous owners.
@@Zimmernld what do you mean shouldnt drive +150kmh for extended time? There shouldnt be a problem. Like bmxi said, a lot of people do and dont have any issues, even saab owner tuner do crazy lpg tune without issues.
As for taxes that can be a problem yeah, in france we pay a bit more every MOT but that's it. As for finding lpg station that's not a big deal, he has two tanks of lpg + the benzine one, plenty of time to find a station
@@bmxismylife123 I had them on 2 156 V6's and the installer told me it was because it would run lean at higher RPM's. There were G3 installations from BRC
Beautiful made episode Sreten, I wish you a lot of determination and succes with this project!
Im so happy to have a new vid to watch! And its the B12 too!
9:30 “I might have had too much coffee today.” 😂
Good luck with this, it's going to be a big one with these unfortunate issues. But take your time. You have many projects in line, but since you work on your own and for yourself, no one is pressuring you to get everything done by tuesday next week. So if this project will wait for a year or two, that's fine for most of us I think. As long as we get to see you fixing stuff, we are happy - this one will be a crown jewel, but the other cars wainting are highly exciting as well, at least for me.
I never thought that reading through documents would be fun... thanks Sreten!
Sreten of all people I know you will resurrect this beautiful B12, I will personally be looking forward to seeing your next update on this fantastic automotive gem. Thanks for fantastic content.
Much awaited, much appreciated looking forward to excellent work as always from you. ✌️
Looking forward to seeing more on this top quality as usual!
Finally been waiting for the longest while for the update

Very excited to see how this project evolves. Keep up the good work 👏
Glad that Alpina are going to help, it's a good deal for them aswell their name getting alot of exposure on the best BMW channel , new premises are needed or would be great if current landlords let you purchase a large part of the buildings.
ufff...I can feel the pain Sreten :(

Best video yet. Give her some updated lights. And soft open doors pls.
I was hoping the cylinders were in better shape but that's life it's a good project but I would be concerned over the cost and return !
Oxford Green? My 97 740iL was that color. Absolutely beautiful

Streten slowly goes mad while we watch... love it😁
That color combination drives me crazy now I understand your excitement.
Never seen a BMW tow truck, it's usually on a tow truck😂. Love your channel...
4:36 my Buick can do this too, its because it has a dual Hall Effect Crankshaft position sensor with matching interrupter rings (one with 18 windows called the 18X Signal, and the other with 3 windows called the 3X Signal or sync pulse) ; which is extremely accurate to the point of that the ICM can identify the correct cylinders to fire in as little as 120 degrees of crankshaft rotation!
That 12th cylinder was like Platoon. Love it
Nightmare. 😅 We love your videos man!❤
I was literally holding my breath when moving with the scope from cylinder 5 to cylinder 6 and then it was perfect? I thought, "wow, this engine is good! The back cylinders would have been the one to be bad if any." Then we moved to cylinder 11 to 12 and I thought, "This is M539 restorations. This thing is going to be messed up." Sure enough. I cried a little.
Tip for this episode to be better: have Mutsie show up :)
This generation of 7 series is without question the best looking 7-series. My buddy's old man had the 740i of this generation after owning the 735i of the previous generation. Always a treat to ride in those!
