  • Anthony Valle of Northeast Generators in Scotch Plains, NJ explains exactly how to maintain your generator in the event of an extended power outage.
    1. Unlock the lid
    2. Kill the power
    3. Push the off button
    4. Let it cool down for a few minutes
    5. Pull the dip stick
    6. Check the oil level
    7. Add oil (if necessary) a little bit at a time
    8. Put the cap back on
    9. Close the hood
    10. Put the generator in the automatic position
    11. Turn the circuit breaker back on

    Thank you for this. Using my Kohler generator for an extended number of days for the first time due to Hurricane Beryl, and I was nervous about checking, and possibly adding, the oil. This video helped me so much. Thanks again!

    Thanks for such an informative video. I have recently purchased a 20kw Kohler generator and have about ten hours of run time on it. My question is when should I perform the first oil change.
