On my Generac you check the oil every 24 hours, what ever the manufacturer requires it’s a good thing to do. For me, I really enjoy the peace of mind just having a standby generator. Truly it’s worth its weight in gold when you lose power. Even though I have a Generac, I have heard that kholer makes a good unit as well. Great video for a new owner that doesn’t have a lot of mechanical experience. I’m fortunate to have a lot of mechanical experience, so maintaining my generator is really easy…
We just recently got our 20KW Kohler standby generator installed at our home and it has worked flawlessly through a scheduled power outage for line maintenance in our local area soon after installation. The generator ran for about 6 hours. But now you are telling me that I need to check and replace oil every 8 hours?!!! Where I live we occasionally experience multiple day outages due to bad weather, wild fires, and earthquakes. So now you are telling me I have to shut down our generator and check the oil three times every 24 hours? That just seems ridiculous to me. Our installer who is also responsible for maintenance of our unit never mentioned that issue. Does this generator really burn through oil that fast? If I had a car that burned that much oil I'd get rid of it. No well designed engine should burn through oil that fast. Please explain.
Every generator advertised is an excellent device, until you hear it run. You’ll see few videos where these units are put just outside the home, and many more 50’+ away. There all loud, and it’s just how you can put up with the noise.
For someone like me who has sporadic outages that average less than one day, checking 8 hours is a minor nuisance. If I had outages for days, checking every 8 hours would be a major nuisance and concern. Either way, I agree with your comment, but I would rather hear the truth about the needed maintenence now. It's something to consider.
Well that tidbit of information helps me make a decision on the brand of generator I will buy. So they want you to go out in a storm to check the oil twice every 8 hours once to cut it off then go sit in your house for 30 minutes and sit in the dark with your family while it cools, per their instructions, then go back out in the weather to check the oil. Here is a likely event to run it a couple of hours before you go to bed you have to sit an alarm clock to get out of bed and check the oil….Generac recommends to check the oil after 24 hours of run time….I am not sure about Briggs or Cummins. But no way it is shorter than 8 hours. Sorry Koehler but that is a deal breaker……no way I will use it if I have to nurse it along like a baby. Please improve your product to compete with other brands and I may reconsider in the future.
On 100+ degrees days in South Louisiana I will check oil every 4 hours to have air conditioning. I've been 2 weeks without power in August and it's miserable
@@TanukiOfficialI use a Champion standby generator to keep my house with power 24/7 during a power outage and I don’t need to check his engine oil level periodically like the Kohler. In fact my generator has remained on for 3 days in a row without having any need to check his oil level. However some tend to consume a little oil while using them but to avoid this issue, you only need to add 2 additional ounces of oil than what the owner’s manual recommends and the issue is solved 😉.
Excellent video. You were very clear, concise, and informative. Thank you for sharing!

Good information, hope to see you shortly for my initial system start-up.
Informative video, thank you!

Does this have hydraulic valves or are they adjustable?
Kohler generators 14KW or larger have hydraulic lifters.
You have to check the oil every 8 hours? That’s kinda not cool.

I would be so happy to have power I wouldn't care.

Did you really just show how to open the lid? You have got to be kidding. Pathetic BS!
Every 8 hours of run time? What if you're out of town or handicap? That is the stupidest thing I've heard of.
