I'm 72, and I still have just about evey item you mentiond in the video - plus! Some of them were my grandmother's and some were my mom's who is now 92. They are great to use and much easier to take care of and wash. Many of the modern appliances and tools take up counter space and require an electrical outlet nearby. The old tools work great, fit in drawers and cabinets, and clean up easily. Still have my mother's colored set of Pyrex mixing bowls as well as old blue canning jars that are lovely and useful. Everything was so well-made back then!

Thank you for the info on the petunias, I never knew that. My old fashioned item is a rosette iron set I got at a flea market down in florida. The lady gave it two me for 2$ because I was the only one who knew what it was. It will replace my mom's set that got lost when we moved her. God is amazing at how he blesses us.

Wow. This video brought back alot of memories. We had almost all the same gadgets in our home and I still use some of them today. They sure were made better too. I loved when mom would bring the bed sheets in off the clothesline. They smelled glorious and I think I always slept better that night.

I just bought a 1936 vintage Singer Sewing machine model 15-91! 😮 It sews like an industrial machine for a 10th of the price! I ❤ it! Yes vintage things do last forever! Great advice 👍

I have mist if them. I'm still using them. My favorite is the metal ice creamer scooper. The new 🆕 nes are made if plastic and they break. I have my mother's peeling knife and her Carvel Hall Steak knifes that r like brand new there from 1960

Pastry cutters are HARD to find outside of the speciality stores now too; I've got one again! In my younger years, half the time I tossed the pastry cutter aside as I raced through things. I'm finding the advantage of one in terms of flakey etc...

When I graduated from college, one of the gifts my mom got me was an old potato masher, likely an antique, that Mom found in an antique store or boutique. It has a wooden handle and the masher part has slots and looks a little like a question mark when you turn it to the side and have the handle pointing down. (I hope that makes sense). It looks a lot like ones my grandmother and great grandmother used. I love it! Who cares about a few tiny lumps. That's what tells you the mashed potatoes are homemade! 😋 😋

I love all these old kitchen utensils. I have three different vintage cast iron Dutch ovens!!! Love them. Great for even bread making too. They used to make things to LAST, but unfortunately nowadays it’s cheaply made so you have to buy it over and over which wastes money and fills the landfill. I’ve always said I was born in the wrong century 😂 because I love the old ways!! Our grandparents were the ultimate recyclers using glass bottles that were used again!!❤

I would give $100 for that recipe file!!!! I just love things like that!!!! I've never known anyone who understands the quality of clothes pins! I DO! I have always hung out ALL of my laundry for 47 years. Rainy? I hang them on a retractable clothesline in the garage. Deep purple petunias are my all time favorite flowers. Not roses not lillys....I know they aren't a flower you can cut and put in a vase. But there is something about them that I love!! This was a great vlog. I enjoyed every minut!! Lisa in San Diego

From my grandma...a glass 2 cup measuring cup and flour sifter. From my mom.... a rolling pin, a set of metal bowls, a potato masher and a cutco knife. All bring me sweet memories. ❤

I don’t use an electric can opener. I use a good quality hand held can opener. One thing I miss is an outdoor clothesline. I don’t have one know but did in the past and I LOVED using it. Do you remember the metal poles that could be used to support the clothes lines? My grandmother used them.
My dad actually made my mom one out of a tree branch that supported hers lol!

Hi Emmy and Paul, Linda from England, I love your videos, your joy and enthusiasm is contagious and I always feel smiley and happy when I have watched them. The old fashioned gadget that I use all the time is the very thing that you are on the hunt for, I have a hand held whisk where you have to turn the cog which in turn turns the mixer. It belonged to my grandma who passed it down to my mum and I have now inherited it. It looks basic and ancient but I love it. Congratulations on 25! We just had 33!🎉 I have so many non electric gadgets from our parents that we love and use. My husband uses his mothers peeling knife. She had 8 kids . A lot of potatoes 😂 I use a glass juicer that always works best and also glass 1 cup measure with the numbers part of the glass...so they will never fade. It also has 3 pouring spouts! ❤❤❤

I have two things to thank you for. First, I downloaded the Flashfood App and I used it. I got a 7lb chicken, eye round beef and 4 chicken legs/thighs for $12. The chicken alone was more than that at full price. Second, I made the chicken today and used your frugal roasted chicken recipe from 12/15/19. It was so good. It was juicy, flavorful and just perfect. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes and information with us. ❤

After seeing you cook from the vintage Betty Crocker cookbook I went on a mission to find one. I was thrilled to find the three ring version for $5 at a flea market. The meatballs you made are called Waikiki Meatballs in this version. Cant wait to make them! Thank you for the inspiration!

My comment would be how great cast iron pots and skillets are. I have several as I can't bear to get rid of them! I use them in the oven and on the stove for all sorts of cooking and baking. Keep them clean and oiled and they'll last forever!

I have an old fashion corn tortilla press and a cast iron grill my uncle welded for me to cook tortillas on he passed away so I have kept as a memory of him I love you guys your both awesome .

I don't have an electric can opener, i have a swingaway can opener and use it all the time. My kids don't even have an electric can opener, they're so used to using a manual one it never occurred to any of them to buy an electric one? I have all those you showed plus manual knife sharpener and that hand beater you're looking for, got mine for a dollar at a flea market in a box of old gadgets and no one knew what it was lol. My favorite vintage item is my grandmas 1940 cookbook with all her notes written all throughout the book, makes me feel like she is cooking right along side her again 😊.

I am still using two heavy-gauge stainless steel mixing bowls my mother had when I was a child; I'm now 79. Nothing today equals their quality. And I still use aprons--the old fashioned ones that aren't so heavy and hot. Congratulations on your 25th anniversary, you kids! Wishing you many, many more years together.

I have a very unusual old-fashioned item it is a 12 in jar with two 4" rings 1/2 " a part with a long metal pole that connects to the jar lid, there is a turning device outside the jar lid What does this do? It whips cream in no time flat, the cream tastes so much better because it cannot be over whipped. My garden began late I have a ton of cucumbers for pickling, I have tomatoes, and I have cosmos, and hummingbird flowers, I am not done, I planted everything from seed, my peppers, basil, oregano, and strawberries did not germinate, I use Neptune's Harvest fish emulsion because that's what MOM did. The Pickling cukes are gigantic, everything else grower at a lesser pace. Even though gardening starts here, we still have 3 months of grow time here. Congratulations on 50K it won't be long till 100k. Kate

So many memories of using the crank meat grinder that hooked on the kitchen table. My mom would take inexpensive cuts of beef and we would grind it down for hamburgers or meat loaf. I think I’m going to look for one of those next flea market.I still have my vintage coffee pot. Came in very handy when Sandy hit.We cooked everything on our camping stove and barbecue. The recipe file is precious. If you haven’t already, you might want to take a picture of each recipe(even with your phone), print them out to have a backup you can use. I’m sure you want your original to not wear out from day-to- day physical use. You would also have them on your phone for quick reference.

I have my mom's old stainless steel electric skillet she bought from Amway back in the early 70s. Still heats up and cooks great. Also, my mom's hand frech fry cutter. Doesn't look like yours. Mine has legs on it and made of plastic and medal. I remember my mom using it as a kid, and that was back in the early 70s also.

Congratulations on reaching 50k I just sat down to watch you after cutting up a watermelon into pieces so it’s really to go and making peanut butter cookies, seasoning bread crumbs and croutons. Doing some house work in the morning when it cooler. I have been working on having home made meals os that when I to busy to cook I don’t have to order food. I have been enjoying our hummingbird feeder it’s so much fun watching them. I so happy to have clothes drying racks back as mine had broke I was able to get 3 folding racks from marketplace for $15 Canadian dollars for a 3 two are made very well and The other one is wooden one as live in a apartment os the dryer racks help keep laundry cost down .

I use a rotary hand crank mixer (like you’re looking for), a hand held can opener, as well as potato masher. I feel like they’re easier to use and to clean than they’re modern counterparts.

I'm hopeful that I can find my mom's hand crank mixer in one of the boxes from her house but I think it was tossed out with most of her stuff when she moved.
I have all of those items in my kitchen! I also have the rotary beater, We traveled a lot in a motor home and now I use them in my kitchen. Love each one!

First of all, Happy, Happy Anniversary! 25 years and still going strong, I can tell! I got scared because I thought you had gone off the air but it turns out my notifications had gotten turned off for some reason. Glad to find you again! My old fashioned-style household item is a clothes rack. I do not use a dryer but instead dry on the rack. It saves alot of money on energy, keeps my clothes newer longer, and I can do it in any weather. Also, a cheese grater is helpful and saves and a lot of money. I only have an electric can opener now because it was my mom's and I grabbed it when their house was being emptied. It's nice for larger cans but most often I prefer to use the handheld one.

I don’t own an electric can opener!! Lol!! I have one of my mothers cookbooks, iron skillet, cornbread cast iron which you make the little cornbread in shape of corn, some knives, my daddy’s old homemade Chester drawers and many more things! I’m 73 y/o. I really cherish everything. It means so much to me. I collect anything old. They don’t make things like they use to that’s for sure. I had my grandmothers things which I lost during the hurricane.

Hello everyone. Thank you Emmy & Paul. I have been watching from my phone for a while now & just created a channel today in that I can communicate with the community. I enjoyed seeing your tools. I also enjoy the "old fashioned" tools because I prefer more hands on when cooking/food prepping. I only use a non-electric can opener. It is a Swing A Way brand. Excellent quality. I use all the tools you mentioned except the cookie press & nut grinder. One of the tools I use is a non-electric egg beater/batter mixer. I have copied down many of the vegetarian recipes that you have posted. I appreciate your sharing. Have a great weekend.

I am spring cleaning my Mom's house at the rate of one room per week. She told me if there's anything in the kitchen that I want, to take it. She's 81 and has mobility issues and can no longer cook. I brought home a potato slicer exactly like the one you showed. She has many vintage gadgets and I love them. She also has many pretty little dishes like candy dishes, etc. and I brought home the one I remember always having on the coffee table when I was growing up. She also has tons of cookbooks (some of my Dad's Mom's as well) and we brought home a few of those. Really great cookbooks!

I have a hand can opener, potato masher and meat tenderizer! I also just purchased an old fashioned mower, no engine!! I use aprons a lot, and just found a lovely, hand embroidered table cloth!!

Well, my kids and grandchildren are growing up. I used an old cast iron waffle maker. It was a stove top. My oldest grandson loved it and asked for it. I gave it to him. Finally he graduated from the culinary so now my oldest thing is my dad‘s old fruit stand hanging scale I still use it. I love it and it reminds me of him every time I use it.

I love using a vintage aluminum measuring cup, 1/4 cup size. It fits in my utensil drawer and I can use it for most measurements (just use mulitples for more than 1/4 cup.). It reminds me of my childhood since that's what mom had. Also vintage aluminum measuring spoons on a ring. My apron was made by my Grandma when I first married 39 years ago. And I have several glass bake refrigerator containers for leftovers. Bringing the 1940's into my kitchen!

My mother-in-law is getting ready to turn 81 years old in just a couple of weeks and she always says to us if there's anything I have let me know and I'll leave it for you, LOL she has a small collection of recipe books and that famous metal recipe box with all sorts of clippings in it. She knows how much I love to cook and told me that I could have all of it one day❤❤

I still use my grandmothers tea kettle every morning. It’s copper bottom whistling basic kettle. I’ve also picked up several old copper bottom Revereware pots and I love those. I use manual can opener and cast iron skillets & Dutch oven but those are all newish. When it comes to pots and pans I’ll use cast iron or vintage any day over the new stuff.

I have a potato masher that is round with holes. I use it to mash hard boiled eggs for egg salad. I use my old fashioned grater to mostly grate cheese and wore out my flour sifter. I bought a pounder from italy that you add a piece to if you want to put little holes in meat. It also has a part to form hamburgers. I have all the cookie cutters that go back to the 1930's and a donut cutter or biscuit cutter that has a wooden handle. The cookie cutters also have wooden handles. We used clothes props to keep the lines up. Long thin boards that had a V cut out of the end. The clothes prop man walked through the whole city selling them. I used them until i moved in 1998. I am sure people still use them in Camden NJ if they hang their clothes out.

Vintage? Older items in good condition from the thrift store? You've got my attention ... those are the items I love! I also have my mom's old recipe box with her handwritten recipes and yep, recipes she clipped out of magazines back in the day. I love STURDY old clothespins too!! What a beautiful vintage apron you were gifted. I know you treasure it. Oh you two, I just loved this episode. I use my mom's old can opener, potato masher, egg slicer, ricer and let's just say almost everything in my kitchen is either vintage or was my mom's or grandmom's and I absolutely love using all of them!

I have my great grandmothers apron!!! She passed in 1965 but I feel like I knew her because my mother and grandmother kept her memory alive. I inherited her garden hat and apron and her singer treadle sewing machine!!

Your Mums potato chipper, I would bet, never made a French Fry in its life. My Ma had one and used it to make chips (not crisps, potato chips, as in Fish and Chips). I don't think she knew what a French fry was. She would have probably said, "You mean those horrible skinny things?"
I had never encountered a line separator, we have a prop. The current version is a metal and plastic rod that lifts the line up high, keeping the washing off the ground and, if there is a breeze, letting it dry the washing. In olden times, straight branches with a forked end were used.

I have my great great grandmother’s Victorian mantel clock!
I was the only one of her great great grandchildren she met!
She was born in 1876 and died 3 months after I was born in 1963!
The clock is still going strong!

I have (and use) the same cookie press that you showed, as well as a potato masher and a hand crank beater! The beater/mixer had been my grandmother's and it makes me feel so close to her when I use it! Have a wonderful 4th of July!!!

I have a 1900 cast iron hand crank corn shucker/thresher.
We used it up into 2009 when we grew corn for animals and selling. It works and will certainly keep your arms tone!
Like you I have quite a few of the old kitchen utility tools that I still use. I have crank apple corer, sausage grinder, etc.
If I'm ever in an antique store, I make sure to check the antique kitchen utensils out.

Definitely agree those old school pieces of equipment were certainly built to last ❤️we still use an inherited jaffle iron to make toasted sandwiches, and a mini, ironing board which is meant for sewing to do small bits of ironing while watching telly at night. It sits perfectly on Fhh e coffee table and hey presto the ironing is done before you know it. Lots of love.

I have several record players and lots of records that we play often. Radios in every room. We love a local community radio station. Local news and our kind of music. No apps or subscriptions for us.
I have my mums and my husband's grandma's linen table cloths. My mums vintage singer sewing machine. And a semi grand piano thats about 100 years old . We also have my husband's grandma's dinning table and chairs, kitchen dresser, wardrobes and day bed which noone wanted and were all hand crafted and beautiful.

Love the apron, I actually would consider a housedress as well at this stage,. The only thing I would suggest is to go for vintage cotton, the early polyester clothes were highly flammable and very heavy non breathing.

I'm still using a 1950's Sunbeam Mix Master that I got at Salvation Army 20 yrs. ago for $25.00. It came with 2 stainless steel mixing bowls, and 3 different types of beaters (bread hook, beater and some sort o f square beater). The whole mixer is stainless steel with the top that comes off and turns into a hand mixer with a bake light handle. I've always wanted a Bosch mixer but I can't part with this gem. Everyone that sees it wants it.

This showed up in recommended videos. What a pleasant surprise. I use all those tools you showed and more. I did update my cookie press with a new old fashioned press that doesn’t use that turn knob. I found it in my hardware store. The French fry cutter can be hard to press down, but makes great fries. I switched to cutting them with a knife. I use 1970s food chopper. It has that 1970s orange handle.

My mom gave me my grandfather’s yellow enamel cast iron Dutch Oven when I graduated college. I still use it to this day. It is great for so many things. It’s the oldest thing in my kitchen and it sure is a workhorse. They don’t make products as good as they used to, that’s for sure.

I have my mom’s cookie press exactly like that one. I had to laugh because I have all those items exact the nut grinder, which I use the meat tenderizer to crush nuts (in a bag). I have my mom’s old beater and I loved it as a kid! Thanks for a great video! Send Arizona some of your rain!

I had that SAME cookie press!!!! I still have all the flat pieces. Sadly, I used it so much that it broke. I was heartbroken. That was many years ago, after I got married! Hubby bought me a Super Shooter I think it was called? Killed that too! I made many cookies all those years for parties and for friends as gifts. How fun!! I used it for Jello cookies, red and green for Christmas, the tree design. The camel was my favorite design. Thanks for sharing, as it was SO FUN to see these all again.
