Your description of the statistics about the success of ablation and lessoning the burden of AFIB is important and really helpful in deciding on continuing Flecainide versus an ablation. Appreciate the information from this very well done talk.

I had three bouts of afib after bypass surgery. I knew when it started because I would immediately get so tired so quickly that I had to lie down. I was hooked up to telemetry and my nurse would come into my room and tell me that they had been advised that I had gone into afib. I already knew though by the way I felt. It usually lasted a few hours, and once it lasted all day. A very strange feeling. I was told it wasn't that uncommon after bypass. I was put on Amiodarone to treat it, but was taken off that when I no longer had it. After those three times in the hospital, I've never had it again.

No symptoms on the first bout with afib, cardioversion cleared it up for four years. Second go round cardioversion lasted two months now off to ablation.

I had an ablation about a year ago and I have had no AFib for nine months now. They said that it would take three months for the scarring to be completed. It’s really been going well. Two years ago I had sudden cardiac arrest and I had no heartbeat for fifteen minutes. They think that the AFib went into cardiac arrest.

"Lifestyle" is NOT the cause of AFIB. I know vegetarians, pro cyclist and weight lifters all who ate well and worked out who ended up with AFIB. Im sure the Medical industry doesn't know why it occurs or how to stop it. Perhaps in the future they will figure it out. Scarring electrical pathways in the heart with ablation helps for some but not all. It's still all experimental.

@rremd It sure can be! As well as over the counter medications 💊 last year I had just 2 glasses of a dry wine and it put me into A-fib for a week. I stopped all alcohol. I have a smart watch to monitor for it. Luckily I have O negative blood which has a 30% less of a clotting factor. I use Earthing as a blood thinner. This is just grounding the body as much as I can including sleeping. This increases the bloods Zeta potential by as much as 270%. Check out Dr. Steven Sinatra his book "Earthing " it also improves the speed at which the body heals itself and is often used in sports medicine.

Thank you for saying this. I know young healthy athletes who have this. Doctors shame us and blame us. All that does is make it worse. I’m willing to make lifestyle changes. But don’t say it’s our fault. Thank you

One thing I do know is that endurance athletes often have heart damage. In fact, marathon runners typically, 40% of them have issues.
So what might be the cause ? Well, Dr. Thomas Levy, a cardiologist in his book, " Stop America's #1 Killer " Proof that the Origin of All Coronary Heart Disease is Clearly Reversible Arterial Scurvy. This is often caused by the mechanical stress of the arteries closest to the heart that get damaged by being depleted of Vitamin C. Then, the plaque process starts.
A-fib is highly associated with high calcium scores like mine at 660. I started Linus Pauling's heart protocol, and I haven't had an episode in quite a while. In fact, I have lowered the score to 458 so far. Things just continually improve.
I walk 4-6000 steps per day. I'm 68 yrs old. I use Metoprolol 25mg right now, but that's the only med I use.

Well said AF has nothing to do with lifestyle fitter people do get it as well and I cant understand that in my opinion ablation works and the pressure with put on human bodies the body is not design for too much pressure, our body remodels itself that needs correction, needs adjustment overuse wear and tear. It's annoying but good luck to all.

From what I understand from a cardiologist is that heart rhythm electrical pathways are damaged. He said that alcohol just kills the pathways.
Calcification is another issue. Currently I am reversing my CAC calcium score with Linus Pauling's heart protocol from 660 to 458 so far with no bouts of A-fib.
