Probably one of the best done how to videos iv seen. Shame he doesn't do it anymore. Camera work and closeups are really good. I watched all of it even though I just wanted a reminder as it has been a while since I needed to do this. Well done mate.
I had to buy an angle grinder and a 30mtr extension lead just to reach it in the street. Angle grinder went through the bolt in seconds, one of the best things ive bought, only £18 from Argos - cheapo make. Thanks for the video - its great, very good quality and well produced - glad to see theres still people in the world who help others out like this guy has
Excellent tutorial. Good clear instructions, tooling, camera angles, lighting, and editing. As others may have commented, try this job at home, but don't be surprised if the drop-link nuts are seized tight and require cutting off using a grinder. Just remember to cut through the threaded bar of the old drop-link and save the actual nuts for reinstatement... assuming the new drop-links come without nuts.
I've just had the offside sway bar link replaced today after a month of back and forth to garages to figure out what the creaking/knocking noise was. Went to one particular garage and they got it on the first check! Car is lovely and quiet now 😀 it's cool to see what the part looks like so thanks for your video! It's very well done!!
Excellent video. I like the way no special tools are used, just the stuff anyone would have. I would use axle stands and a trolley jack, but then some folks beginning d.i.y. wont have them. Well done...and thanks for taking the time to do this.
Awesome video! camera angles were great, good explanation on tools and parts your installing. I especially like how you used the factory jack and used the tire as a jack stand. it encourages people to get out there and work on their own vehicle. well done!
Easily the best video on this matter. It is an obvious job and many videos explain it quite good around TH-cam, but this one´s got to be the best by far.
Another great video , i only wish You Tube was around ten years ago when i used to do a lot of my own repairs , thanks to guys like yourself who spend the time and effort to make these videos and help out those who wish to learn....Great Stuff
This helped me with mine, a vw polo. Didn't need to take the wheels off either, just jacked up the frame slightly at the opposite end to relieve the pressure on the roll bar. Thanks very much!
I know this video is old now but still helpful, need to do the droplinks on mine plus some other suspension bits. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Absolutely great video!! I had my sway bar link replaced and the mechanic put it on in reverse and the nut was not tight all the way!! Now I know what to check when I take it back!
this is by far the best instructional video i have ever seen on changing car parts.you make it look easy but i am scared to start and get stuck half way....please come and do mine!!
H Lotey, Your problem may be related to the anti-roll bar bushes. Trace the bar down from the top of the drop link to where the bar is fixed ( via rubber bushes ) to the sub-frame. Change them.
Great video mate, just purchased two new, anti roll bars, now I can easily fit them. Update, installed both anti roll linkage this morning, dead easy, had to cut one off, but easy to do, cheers.
Did this after just not having the time to get round to it before. Wheel nuts where obviously impact driven on by arse holes in garage, had to use massive steel bar for leverage. Proper helpful video got the part for €20 and fitted myself saving about €80 that I don't fucking have at the minute 😂
Thanks for the video. This is very similar to our 2007 VW Passat. We had a hard time getting the old link bolts out due to it needed a 12 point key in the center of the bolt. Nothing a good pair of "Vise-grips" on the shaft of the bolt to help keep it in place while struggling to get the nut loose. Took 2 hours overall due to the removal of the old one.
Excellent. Saved myself a packet on my Zafira following this guide. Had to use a socket set rather than just spanners but thanks so much for posting this.
Man this video is great! Just what I was looking for. Well explained and not to mention that the quality of the video and audio is very good. I am subscribing!
nice and clear video, howeverit must be noted that very few of these links will be as clean and corrosion free as this. Most will be well seized and may, in extreme cases, require cutting off with a grinder. My suggestion is always use axle stands, good quality penetrating fluid and use lots of bad language...works everytime for me. Thanks for the clear vid
thanks for the video i fixed my corsa o3 thanks to it :) alls i needed was a 16mm an a 19 mm to do it an the jack an tha. was realy easy. garage said theyd do it for 70 pound with parts, i got the the parts right an left front anti roll bar linkage for £13.40 an it took me about 2 hours to do only cuz the nuts were old an so hard to get off an i took my time. again thanks for the video so much, top man!
Awesome video thank you i sttill got in my library the complete strip dowm of the iphone 5 which i did after watching your complete strip down and rebuild .very clever man you are.greetings from Nottingham United Kingdom.
Agreed! Best fixit video I've seen. No assumptions of existing knowledge. Really good video, clear and simple piece by piece instructions. Idiot proof!! He really should go back to doing this money to be made for sure!!
This should be a quick and simple job, but if you've never done it before this excellent and clear vid, nicely narrated, should give you the confidence to tackle it. P.S. As an aside, NEVER go under a car, or put any part of yourself under it when it is supported by a jack only - they CAN fail. Which doesn't even bear thinking about....!
Good Luck at 5:26 when the Droplinks have been on 6+ Months. I usually use an Angle Grinder where the spanner's going ;) Torques: Wheel Nuts: 110Nm Drop Link Nuts: 55Nm, cheers!
Great clear video and explanation. Perfect. Good job for a beginner to try. The only issue with this jobs is as ever getting the rusty nuts off. Best to pre spray them with a release compound to make the job easier. Top Tip: Don't use cheap replacements, they won't last long.
Excellent ,loved the bit at beginning highlighting the knocking noise we all hear. Instructions and pictures could not be clearer and good safety tip using wheel to support car as those jacks can never be trusted .
Thanks very much for this. I'm about to change mine again having replaced them with some bought on ebay. Cheaper yes, but I'm doing the job twice as they failed after a month.
Great video helped me a lot. Sick of hearing that clunking noise garage said it was my drop links looks easy to replace so I'll do it myself. Top man 🤘🏼
A local garage fitted these a few years back but the job needs done again already, I don't think they put any grease under the rubber cups. Thanks to your very clear video I feel confident enough to try it myself. Update - The drop links were OK - The rattling noise turned out to be the loose end of a broken coil spring!
Your video helped me a lot thanks, the only difference I had on my 2014 Mokka, was the old links were 18mm nut with a torx star centre, and the replacements were 19mm bolt with allen key centre :)
thanks for the vid man. I bought a used Astra (same car different name) I'm here In the states. I received mine used but in near mint condition I used Moog sway bar links. I also used a quick pump 3ton Jack instead of the GM jack. now that the car is 10 years old I would recommend pb blast and saturate the bolts for 30 min tap the nut/bolt with hammer a few times spray again and the old nuts twist right off. atleast they did for me. thanks again great vid.
It might be worth replacing the 2 anti-roll bar bushes under the car. That will probably stop those other sounds. And if you replace the suspension top rubbers it can make quite a difference to the ride..
excellent video, ive had both of these done on the front of my vectra c have you made any videos for rear end suspension im getting that knocking noise from the rear end on uneven roads, thanks a lot
Great video, did this today and worked fine on one side, BUT the other i couldn,t undo the nut,i tried putting a spanner on the shaft and another on the nut side but it just slipped through.Spent 2 hours trying to remove it and i cant, any advice on how to remove this nut would be greatly appreciated as the car is stuck on the jacks in the street. Thanks
Hi, great video, clear and easy to follow. My 2004 meriva has just failed its mot on both front anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust covers being excessively damaged. Would it be just the rubber part at the bottom end of the replacement component in your video that I need to replace? Cheers
Right got ya, bugger I never thought about that, funny both going at the same time, My car ( zafira mk2 ) just had major service and MOT last Wednesday brought car home and parked it till yesterday drove to Scunthorpe and drop link knocking like a bugger going there, so much for a full service and MOT they check my car properly didn't they, Doing drop links on Monday then back to service station for a few words.
very nice little video there....well constructed....yes as below i would not use a scissor jack as i have had one fail on me...but if you only have one then be careful....Thats all i had back in the day...if you are going down the DIY route and want to do your own maintenance bit by bit get your own tools together like me....Im a TH-cam Macanic and now know quite a bit about my Vauxhall Calibra SE6,,,,happy days
This is probably the best video tutorial I've ever seen of any kind. And I watch a LOT. I've not seen the wheel trick used before (with the wood on top to hold up one side of the car) I don't so much hear as feel a looseness when my car goes over bumps and I suspect the shocks or these... any way of telling for sure with the wheel off...?
How did you undo the nut so easily? Haynes says they should be torqued to 48lb ft so to undo them with 15 years of rust will mean more torque than that. You must have biceps like a carthorse. I undid the top nut with a breaker bar but I'm still struggling to budge the lower nut.
my sway link bushing had worn off and it made clunking sound when I hit a bump... I had it changed in the car workshop... paid them for the job. but having watched this video made me wonder... I could DIY.. but I'm not confident enough though.
Hello, excellent video. I have the same corsa d and i believe tha the sound i hear is the same. Is there a way to test my car in order to make sure that i have the same problem? Thanks a lot!!
+Θοδωρής Κολονελος Now I have similar sound and forums sad that is it :) But it also may be other details. I bought such details as in video and think - can I change it yourself or need some professional. Looking at this video, I think that I can change it myself.
cool thanks for the reply. I'm currently replacing these on a Toyota Avensis 2001. Completely different links to yours but the idea is the same. I'm having difficultly replacing the top nut on the link as the thread has an allen key slot to prevent turning while loosening the bolt. The allen key slot is worn and have no way to remove the bolt as a result. any ideas?
Help appreciated!!! I am fixing bits on my honda civic ej9 and one of my MOT failures was "Offside front anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint". However if I change the Anti Roll Sway Bar Drop Link will that fix my problem as no one can give me answer. Appreciate any help or advice
Great video, man, many thanks for sharing with us. I am about to replace my OEM suspension with a Coilover Kit (V-Maxx). I own a Corsa OPC 2009, and i would much appreciate your opinion in what top-mounts (front only) would you choose to install. I won't be using the OEM ones, or buying the same from Opel, because i am not quite happy with them. Any suggestions? SNR, Febi-Bilstein, to name a few? Many thanks in advance & regards. Simon
Thank you for posting this. Do you need to replace both drop links at the same time even if one of them has no problems? The parts supplier says you do but I don't see why it should be necessary.
Thanks for the vid. I've just done this job, and was wondering if it's important to stick to the torque ratings for the drop link nuts? I found it hard to do this as it requires the additional spanner like you showed.
Hi buddy, any feedback would be great. Bought a car and had it MOT'd and these came back - near side and offside front anti roll bar ball joint dust cover damaged but preventing ingress of dirt, and also offside front suspension ball joint cover damaged but preventing ingress of dirt. The car knocks over bumps and creaks when cornering and getting in and out of it. I never noticed it when I bought the car a month ago. It's a corsa c 2004 reg. any help is really appreciated thanks!
Probably one of the best done how to videos iv seen. Shame he doesn't do it anymore. Camera work and closeups are really good. I watched all of it even though I just wanted a reminder as it has been a while since I needed to do this. Well done mate.

Great video, thanks! Very clear and well spoken advice with great camera angles, and crisp footage of parts and what to do. Thanks, really helpful 👍
Thanks. There are so many of these kind of videos that just show the back of some guys hands. Really good job.
Excellent tutorial. Good clear instructions, tooling, camera angles, lighting, and editing.

What positions would you put the trolley jack and the axel stands in? Don't wanna go through the floor.
Just done my offside using this tutorial, its better than the Haynes manual.Excellent commentary and video, well done and many thanks.
Awesome video! camera angles were great, good explanation on tools and parts your installing. I especially like how you used the factory jack and used the tire as a jack stand. it encourages people to get out there and work on their own vehicle. well done!

Really clear guide - so much better than squinting at the black and white pics in the Haynes manual! Thank you very much.
Excellent tutorial vid, thanks for your help, particularly good that you don't stop filming at all so it actual shows the real time replacement 😀
Have watched a good few car DIY videos and this is by far the clearest. Great job!
Cool man! Nice vid, very professional the way you have taped it; one of the best DIY videos on the web, Congrats pal; cheers from Rome!
Well done that was clear and simple and really informative for a guy who has limited knowledge about the various parts talked about
This helped me with mine, a vw polo. Didn't need to take the wheels off either, just jacked up the frame slightly at the opposite end to relieve the pressure on the roll bar. Thanks very much!
Probably repeating what's already been said but....Thank you VERY much for such a relaxed and informative explanation of the repair. Well done!
Almost definitely the best 'how to' videos on youtube. Awesome.
Great video, from someone not mechanically minded this give me the confidence in saving myself some £££ and doing it myself.
One of the best car repair videos I have seen
I know this video is old now but still helpful, need to do the droplinks on mine plus some other suspension bits.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Plain simple straight to the point thankyou for taking the time to show us
Like the tip of taking the strain off the sway bar by jacking the other side off the ground, game changer for changing drop links!

Excellent video my friend. Thank you very much. This video saved me a 40 euro job, in Serbia, in any service.
Great video. Vauxhalls are usually friendly cars to work on. 65 nm of torque is the right spec on the swaybar nuts😊
This is by a mile the best fucking video for a DIY car job I've ever seen the attention to editing and camera work, top notch
Did this after just not having the time to get round to it before. Wheel nuts where obviously impact driven on by arse holes in garage, had to use massive steel bar for leverage. Proper helpful video got the part for €20 and fitted myself saving about €80 that I don't fucking have at the minute 😂

Amazing video. Today you saved me over $250. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work !!!!

having not encountered this type of link rod before, worth watching prior to getting stuck in. VW Polo 9N has a very similar set up
Excellent, Clear concise instruction. Well Done!

Good presentation, nice to see some one who know's what he's doing for a change.
hi, yes its the same basis if you take a quick look you will see its as easy as the front, i have done them
Very helpful video. I just changed mine on Skoda Fabia - without removing wheel! . It took me 20 mins. Thank you
Nice one, I've not seen a Skoda setup but I guess its about the same...
***** Yes, It is the same
Excellent ,loved the bit at beginning highlighting the knocking noise we all hear. Instructions and pictures could not be clearer and good safety tip using wheel to support car as those jacks can never be trusted .
They are generally known as Widowmakers. Make of that what you will ;)
Nice and clear video without loud music 👍
this is the best picture and video shot i have ever come a cross on this sort videos...
Really simple the way you describe the whole process. Very well documented . Thanks a lot mate.
Hello, is it possible to hear this noise on 0:08 when I am turning on the right side from the front left wheel?
Thanks very much for this. I'm about to change mine again having replaced them with some bought on ebay. Cheaper yes, but I'm doing the job twice as they failed after a month.

James MacDonald I've just changed these again, they only lasted about 60k
***** Mine busted early too. (the plastic rod, not the ends!) Went for Delphi ones, but would prefer solid metal ones.
you should put the wheel nuts on skipping one each time e.g. bottom right nut on, thentop left, then top right, then bottom left, then top
Your video helped me a lot thanks, the only difference I had on my 2014 Mokka, was the old links were 18mm nut with a torx star centre, and the replacements were 19mm bolt with allen key centre :)
Thanks sooo much for this informative and easy to understand video - much easier to follow than my Haynes Manual!!

that noise was the roll bar bushing ,mate.
excellent video, ive had both of these done on the front of my vectra c have you made any videos for rear end suspension im getting that knocking noise from the rear end on uneven roads, thanks a lot
Simple, Clear, and precise .....excellent video ..will tackle this on monday !!!
Thanks

A new pair of droplinks cost about £15 from eBay so its not worth messing about replacing the dust covers
Very well explained, just managed to change mine on a Vauxhall Astra 2009 and work like a dream thank you!
Very good video. Thank you for taking the time. It's certainly a confidence booster to know every detail.
really good video i will be doing this on my Zafira very soon as the creaking is driving me mad. you have earned another sub here!
Great post, I've just replaced my Corsa's drop links using the knowledge from this video. Thanks.
Right got ya, bugger I never thought about that, funny both going at the same time,
My car ( zafira mk2 ) just had major service and MOT last Wednesday brought car home and parked it till yesterday drove to Scunthorpe and drop link knocking like a bugger going there, so much for a full service and MOT they check my car properly didn't they,
Doing drop links on Monday then back to service station for a few words.
Brilliant vid, really appreciate you taking the time mate. Big thanks
very nice little video there....well constructed....yes as below i would not use a scissor jack as i have had one fail on me...but if you only have one then be careful....Thats all i had back in the day...if you are going down the DIY route and want to do your own maintenance bit by bit get your own tools together like me....Im a TH-cam Macanic and now know quite a bit about my Vauxhall Calibra SE6,,,,happy days
very good filming , nice and clear with the right voice
and......... hands
Superb! Is it same process for the rear? Thank you
This is probably the best video tutorial I've ever seen of any kind. And I watch a LOT. I've not seen the wheel trick used before (with the wood on top to hold up one side of the car) I don't so much hear as feel a looseness when my car goes over bumps and I suspect the shocks or these... any way of telling for sure with the wheel off...?
keep the videos up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Videos one like this save people a lot of money
Thank you for your time. Very clear and easy to follow. Great video
Why does we need wheel under at 3:47? Can be used only this jack? (sorry for my english)
How did you undo the nut so easily? Haynes says they should be torqued to 48lb ft so to undo them with 15 years of rust will mean more torque than that. You must have biceps like a carthorse. I undid the top nut with a breaker bar but I'm still struggling to budge the lower nut.
If you shake a sway bar and it makes that knocking noise.. doesnt it indicate bushings are the problem ??
my sway link bushing had worn off and it made clunking sound when I hit a bump...
+Θοδωρής Κολονελος Take it to a local tyre and service garage and ask for an estimate :-)
+VauxhallHelp the sound appears when you drive with low velocity (10-30km/h) at road with potholes?
+Θοδωρής Κολονελος Now I have similar sound and forums sad that is it :) But it also may be other details. I bought such details as in video and think - can I change it yourself or need some professional. Looking at this video, I think that I can change it myself.
cool thanks for the reply. I'm currently replacing these on a Toyota Avensis 2001. Completely different links to yours but the idea is the same. Simon
hi,i have a 2003 cd astra,it pulls badly to the left, any ideas what it could be.thanks.
is it the same principle on the rear? my vectra has a knocking sound coming from the back wheel?
You make it so easy thanks for the upload! Is it the same for the rear? Or is that just a bushe got same knock on rear of my vectra 2007.
Very nice video. Good, calm and professional! Thank you.
Thank you for posting this. Do you need to replace both drop links at the same time even if one of them has no problems? The parts supplier says you do but I don't see why it should be necessary.
Thank you saved me lots of money. good clear instructions and video
A very informative video, and a easy to follow guide ! Thumbs up.
This really is an excellent video. It is a shame you don't post more!
Thanks for the vid. I've just done this job, and was wondering if it's important to stick to the torque ratings for the drop link nuts? I found it hard to do this as it requires the additional spanner like you showed.
Its not important, just do them up tight by hand on the spanner...
Absolutely brilliant video, all in clear detail, I can do my combo van nice and easy now, thankyou for such a good vdeo
