Well, they were decorated by the same studio =) taste is something that you learn whether early or later in life.

If you didn't live in the 70s, you wouldn't know that not all homes had goldenrod, olive green, shag carpet, or bad wood paneling. Just like the 80s didn't have day glow all over.

Why was the house torn down? It is still a vacant lot, last time I looked. What was the idea?
It was sold as one lot with the Chartwell Mansion ( the Beverley Hillbillies house ) and now forms part of that estate so presumably they had no use for another house on the plot. It adds 1.29 acres to the 10 acre garden of Chartwell.

Not in tony Bel Air. No way would neighbors allow a bus load of tourists in their neighborhood, walking around and taking picture.
Not only were they a loving couple but they showed us.

Nancy Reagan was a Beeauch. She admitted she wasn’t a good mother. She went out of her way to be kind and nurtured a relationship with Ronny’s son and daughter from his first marriage to Jane Wyman. Once Ron and Nancy were married she no longer wanted them in her life. A very conniving woman.

I really liked Mrs Reagan too. But the decorating ? Each to their own but all I see is clutter. When you have too much stuff, nothing is special. And their house was big enough to store things. Keep certain pieces out year round, store 2/3 of it, and every 3 months switch out.
The Reagans' ranch in Santa Barbara County was also very cluttered. The living space was noticeably darker than in their Bel Air home, and it looked claustrophobic. Your suggestion about rotating decorative items when you have a lot of them is a good one.
They were a former First Couple. There were boxes and boxes of stored items. This was a small collection of they re lives together. Not cluttered at all. Its a lifelong story. Beautiful.

and the look of the house outside.
Everything is too boring for MY liking. I suppose my house is 155 years old and I'm used to different fixtures and fittings and different exteriors.
I'm not against simplicity at all, but this one doesn't appeal to ME!

They were happily married.
This house was bought for them by their rich buddies. Low end of Bel Air. Originally 666 Saint Cloud Rd.
If their buddies bought the house for them, what's it to us? As long as taxpayers didn't or China or Ukrain!
It was leased to them, with an option to buy.

Hmm, I beg to differ....we got a good glimpse of the real Nancy at Ronald's funeral...she treated Michael Reagan, his 1st son, as if he did not exist or matter...NO CLASS.....THAT SAID IT ALL TO ME....Michael Reagan is SO impressive compared to the loser children of Nancy's...I don't think Ronald would be too impressed with their actions toward Michael...or in life...

Do you think this is the home in which they spent time realizing how their evil actions during the aids epidemic cost the lives of millions around the world? Asking for a dead friend. (And for their “friend” Rock Hudson whom they refused to lift a finger for when he was dying and asked a favor.)
I don't think so. It was bought for them (by their friends) after they left the White House. So very strange... they had SO many gay friends. Horrible, really horrible.
Good old Rock Hudson who refused to disclose to his lover that he had AIDS, and risked his life deliberately? That Rock Hudson?

Ronald Reagan exemplifies 1980s elegance for me because the 80s was just full of bad taste when it comes to interiors.
@De St They moved into this home, purchased by Frank Sinatra, and other close friends- for them to live in for the remainder of their post-Washington years- after they left the White House in the late 80's; so it IS very much the 80's decor, combined with Nancy's own personal style. A bit much for many people; yet too simple for others.
In a few years, and not too many, people are going to look at todays interior decor and say the same thing. Cheap and tacky! Gray and Dull! Ostentatious and poor quality. This is what people in the future will say about todays home decor.

I have to separate what I feel when I see beautiful pieces of art, a house, decoration ...from the owners which many time have built their fortune at the expense of human suffering ( castles, jewelry, conservative governors...).
