As an old Brit sailor, its the hemp rope, That put's me back, in the Past of sailing, Plastic has a lot, of qualities, but in a heavy sea, hemp wont slip, to same extent plastic does,
It's my home port! Great to see Newcastle-upon-Tyne and this great ship! MAY the GODS of the TYNE bless you all. Its a great honour for us that you have come here!
Back in the days when ships were made of wood and the men were made of steel, there is a replica that is in Brixham in Torbay which is a replica of the Golden Hind which gives a sense of how tough life would be back then
The Golden years of sailing ships I love so much that I purchased a handmade wooden model of a galleon the Vasa... As I look at my model I always dream of being on board these wonderful ships. Oh and your video was fantastic the best one so far I loved it so much
I love Whitby, but I’m on the south coast in Portsmouth. You could pop in here and say hello to HMS Victory, Mary Rose and HMS Warrior! Would be amazing!
I understand the reasons why there are engines but they will affect the navigation; the navigator and the captain will know that they can probably reach their destination by the appointed time, but without engines can never be sure. Also there is not so much fear of being caught on a lee shore, whereas without engines a ship with only a very poor ability to sail to windward must always try to ensure there is sufficient sea room to be able to sail out of trouble. And without engines there is always the fear of running out of provisions, or of the water turning bad, and of course scurvy! I am full of admiration for the captains and crew of these (by modern standards) rather clumsy ships who achieved so much and changed the world we live in.
I was doing my powerboat lvl 2 licence renewal past this ship at it's berth on the Tyne, it looks very impressive from down in the water! As towards sailing ships, it's very much less of a problem these days, what with modern AIS systems, navigation and often overlooked but most importantly...radio communication. Now, we can radio ahead for tugboat assists, resupply or berthing management. Accurate, up-to-date weather reporting also takes a lot guesswork out of route plotting etc. All of these magical modern conveniences do make you appreciate how it was done in the past a hell of a lot more though, so enormous respect to those hardy sailors!
Andalucia comes from Vandals, the German tribe that settled in the south of Spain. The first trip by Columbus to the New World took 70 days, averaging under 3 miles per hour (slow, yeah but beats walking for 70 days!).
Andalucía viene de Al-Andalus, tierra invadida por los musulmanes. Yo soy andaluza y he estudiado si historia. Vivo cerca de del puerto de dónde zarpó Colón para descubrir América.
I SOOOOO WANT TO BOARD THIS GALLEON!! WHEN WOULD IT BE IN THE NEW YORK CITY AREA??!! I SURE WOULDN’T MIND DOING A TOUR OF WORK DUTY ONBOARD IT EITHER!!
You showed the Captain's and Warrant officers cabins, but not an example of the crews hammocks. One hammock doesn't illustrate the crampness of sailing in one of those ships. Is the Captains cabin behind the wheel?
Because Newcastle is better known, far more accessible by public transport, and the obvious choice for the northeast. Plus I doubt they wanted to be dwarfed by Trincomalee 😂

Our pleasure - glad you enjoyed our video 👌🏻
What a beautiful grand lady of the sea! Please visit Shetland Andalucia ,you & your will be most welcome !
I love this. I felt the young man narrating did a great job of explaining things and was actually quite funny.
Always good to have vessels like that visiting the city
Fully agree!

We also used to build giant basilicas and catjedrals, star forts etc too! All before power tools were invented. Oh, and pyramids, lots of them!
Looks fabulous. Im ready to set sail with your crew. Pick me up in Savanna, Georgia 🇺🇲
EEUU existe gracias a España 🇪🇦
Good little documentary, thanks. I would happily go to see Andalusia if it were to visit Gloucester or Bristol. Good luck to everyone on board.
Thanks for the kind words!

Impresionante galeón Andalucía. Fabricado en Punta Umbría, Huelva, Andalucía, España. Yo❤ España.
saw her in malaga, a beauty.
Great to see, sadly missed it at Whitby by a few days; but the crew can get some good fish and chips!
Thanks for the kind words
I love that they have engines. Staying on schedule and not getting lost/killed is a lot more important than LARPing.
I would really like to see the cargo hold.
Since she’s docked in Newcastle, she’s probably “carrying coals”.😊

When is it coming to Bridlington x
Sorry June we don’t have that information. Hope you enjoyed our video preview though.
It’s in Scarborough until Jul 22nd if that’s close enough.
Can we see the engine room?
We explored everywhere we were allowed - if not on the video there was no public access.
@@northeastupdates I stopped watching about a third of the way through. It looked like a museum ship to me and not an actual working sailing ship
Do you have a Basque Navigator with you?
Most likely
Nice to see but being a bit of a purist I prefer the actual sailing ships, believe Sweden has a sails galleon replica.
Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoyed.
First around the globe . . nearly Magellan , a Philippine fellow actual . . but still those times
The modern world had its beginning with these ships.
Indeed!
so why did not call into Hartlepool with ower history of ship builing?
