I have dabbled in boat building of all styles, and can tell you without a doubt that this course is an amazing value. A good set of oar plans will set you back minimum $30, and you don’t get any instruction or support. Brian is charging $25 for the plans for the oars and outrigger, a how to video, and support, as if you get stuck while building, he will reply to emails and get you sorted. Another great offering from a great guy. Thanks for all that you do Brian. You work and products are excellent.
Hey thanks man, we try to keep it affordable for people. In the end what went into this course is far more than will ever get back in revenue but I just wanted to make it as sort of a public service. People have no idea the project they’re getting into when they build a set of oars, it’s so much more work than you think it’s going to be and there’s a lot of ways to make that easier that are hard to communicate in a paper plan set.
You can do that, but it's really a totally different set up, once you add a sliding seat, you want a wider outrigger, longer oars, and a different boat design. This is just a simple little rowing rig that's quick to set up and easy to use.
A sliding seat adds a lot of complexity and not much more speed to a boat that is shorter than 18 feet and wider than 30 inches. If you are rowing all day or in rough water for more than 5 miles, you'll get more miles per flapjack with a fixed seat set up.
