    nice build, but thats as far away from budget as a car is from a plane lol. with all those trait costs, its pretty much semi DPS chaser already >_< but its definitly nice to see some form of semi high end build that is obtainable with just EC and Zen, as Lobi are often the most limiting factor for total high end builds, along with the masses of EC needed for promo/LB ships ofc

    Yo, Stu, u da man! This budget build is killing me funny but, I had to try it. This build is so much fun and DPS is just coming out my pores! It's really cool that you spent the time to do this research. Most of us just don't know how to make these buff connections and now I see what u look for! years of playing this game casually and I didn't get how important the traits, consoles, boffs, weps, and engie work together. You taught me so much about this game in short order with your step walk through. Very good teaching skills, sir. o7!

    First of all- Nice video. I really love how you explain things and your art of presentation.
    And it may be a language problem - since I`m not a native speaker - but how is this a budget build?
    I know budget does not mean for free at all - but as I understand "budget" means something like what does not cost much. Like when I want to buy something and can spent a lot of money, because I`m on a budget.
    The personal traits you are using are all purchasable at the exchange, ok. But the total cost of them are 313.500.000 EC. That`s a lot of ECs in my opinion.
    The starship traits are mostly from C-Store ships and each cost 3.000 ZEN - so the starship traits would cost 15.000 Zen + 2.400 for the Trailblazer are a total of 17.400 Zen. Sure, you can farm dilithium and trade it for zen - that would be 8.700.000 dilithium and of course there some free T6 token a player can get over the year.
    That`s not what I would call a "budget" - in my opinion. Or at least that would be a freaking high budget.
    But no offense - as I said I really love your videos and it may be a language problem and I don`t understand the meaning of "budget".

      I think he’s viewing it more as what would easily be in the average players reach, vs stuff coming off the lock box, promo box, Lobi or Mudd Bundle ships. The C-store ships he used are $30/per. The Lockbox etc ships run $100-300/each. This is just me, but my way of looking at a “budget build” vs a “f2p” build is I look at how much I would spend annually on a subscription MMO such as World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV. That’s about $180’ish/year. There’s your budget. So that plus 4 annual free T6 ships. With at least 1 being a C-store T6. It’s also why for some budget players it may be a better option to take the 2 free T6 coupons from the annual event, than the free promo ship. The coupons give you account unlocks.

    • @Brunnen_Gee
      @Brunnen_Gee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I'm really confused by this as well. Rep gear, mission gear, fleet gear, that kind of stuff is fine in a budget build, but once C-store items hit the mix it ceases to be a budget build to me.
      The only way I could see this being a budget build is if it's someone who's been playing for years and years and is sitting on a lot of funds in EC and dil (possibly Zen if they're a lifetime). But for a normal player, this is _way_ past any reasonable budget.
      Once he started listing off all the C-store consoles, I pretty much stopped listening. That, and if you're someone like me who only plays sporadically and can't keep up with the inflation on the exchange, items sold on the exchange are virtually unobtainable.
      This is probably budget for veterans who have been playing for a very long time, but I don't think it qualifies as that to anyone else. I'm kind of afraid what a "non" budget build would look like.

    • @Stu1701
      @Stu1701  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mid-range build might've been a better term to use. Everyone has a different opinion on what defines a budget build. In this case, it's because I'm using nothing from a lockbox/promo ship.

      @@andrewtaylor940 "plus 4 annual free T6 ships. With at least 1 being a C-stire T6."

They gave out a free T6 coupon this year, but they didn't do that last year and they haven't suggested this is something they'll do every year.
      There's the event campaign, but I don't think you're referring to that since that's two T6 coupons.

    I don't understand how is this build is budget for new players like me, you need to buy 5 zen store ships just for traits, 1-2 for consoles and need to buy 9 personel space traits from exchange between 20-30m ec each. I started to play 6 months ago and still trying to buy a ship every month, I think i need to buy more ships if i want a decent dmg output :) . I think you guyz consider budget if it is not from a promo or lock box ship.

      Are you still playing? Stu's usually better at what is meant by Budget... For a long time player, like this year for example, you could have several coupons for ships. So, ships are not always hard to get... I usually hold onto my coupons until I want to do something like this. ;-) Still, it really isn't much of a budget ship for the reasons you mention. But, Torpedo Boats can be a lot of fun! It will be worth the wait! :-)

    Running a Sci/Torp budget build on this myself with focus on Gravity Well 3. Controlling enemies is just too valuable for torp builds and i do both decent exotic as well as torp damage with my DPS oriented build. Only survivability is a problem sometimes since i only got 1 lowly heal and use the Trailblazer immunity console as an oh ship! button. Also the Trailblazer trait that buffs EPG damage significantly after regular firing modes is quite potent on such a build.

    Kinda disappointed, saw "Budget Torpedo Build" and this isnt what Id call that. Anything from market, fleet weapons, mission rewards id say are "budget" weapons. (excluding the absurdly over priced 5 mil ec + stuff) Dont really see how reputation gear is "budget", it can take significant time n resources to get to the proper level to buy rep gear. Id like to try a torp build but only rep torps i have are gravitic photon and rom hyper plas. then non rep - voth wide angle trans, fleet transphasic, wide angle quantom, agony phaser torp, prolonged engage photon.

    • @Stu1701
      @Stu1701  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I consider reputation gear to be budget gear because it's free to obtain. Yeah, it's a grind to unlock it, but welcome to MMO's. Transphasic torpedoes suck, they sacrifice too much damage for the amount of sheild pen they give. The wide angle quantum torpedo is only available on C-store versions of the Sovereign, which is technically less budget-y than the rep gear. The Agony torp is an energy torpedo, which have terrible cooldown lengths (plus these are better suited to energy weapon builds of a matching damage type). I suppose the Prolonged could work, but it doesn't exactly have much benefit for a torpedo build beyond being a torpedo.

    • @BreadApologist
      @BreadApologist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Stu1701 Would there be a decent build just using mission n cheap market torps? Without factoring in super special rep or lockbox stuff? While Id like tryin a torp ship, its more of a curiosity n whim for me. All the special stuff is quite a major grind n investment for just wanting to try out a torp build.

    • @IrisCorven
      @IrisCorven ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I gotta agree here. Three of the six consoles for this one come from T6/C-Store, which is a serious no-go for most looking for a "budget" build. I can get rep items being used, as it is 100% free - just time consuming - to get those, but can be done in a relatively decent amount of grinding time if you're running a daily event, and a few TFO's and patrols every day for the Marks necessary to level them.
      But the second you start factoring in C-store purchases, even if you want to make the argument that they're "still technically free" via Dil to Zen - The exchange is JUST now at 499:1 after nearly two solid years of a 500:1 conversion ratio. Unless you are working STO as a full time job, grinding out the Dil needed to not only buy those C-Store ships, but also grab the necessary fleet gear for this build, a F2P player looking for a budget build after maybe tossing out the cash to buy this out of interest into getting into Torp Boats? It's a pretty hefty cash or time investment for someone who was interested in trying out a torp build.
      As most of the other budget builds I come across on YT are built solely from mission, rep, and Fleet/Dil gear, I appreciate the work put into this build, but I'd call it more of a semi-budget build.

    • @ZenMasterChip
      @ZenMasterChip 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Stu1701 And, there we have where "budget" comes from! :-) I probably have enough ships from dil free ships from buying Phoenix Prizes for upgrades and getting the occasional ship coupon. ;-) Free shops from events, especially this year can make it budget. ;-) Spending a few real $$ on keys and for some reason infinity traits dropped 4 times with 36 keys (bought on sale), lucky me, and I'm still budget friendly.

    STU do you realize how absurd it is to call this a "budget" build? Just from the traits you listed its $240 real world dollars........... Not to mention the 12k Dill, the Millions and millions of EC you need for the captain traits, which the most expedient way to get that much EC is to sell Keys/R&D packs............ And that doesn't even address getting the modules/Fittings to epic............ Look I play STO too, so I understand how the prices in STO warp a sense of reasonableness. Hell, I'm even in NT, and I've been playing since beta........ But to call a +- 400 dollar investment into a fucking video game "budget" is fucking absurd............. (+- $400 if someone is starting from scratch. Ships and keys/R&D packs)

      Congratulations! You've stumbled onto the exact reason why I hate doing budget build videos: everyone has their own definition of what a "budget build" is.
      Should it include lockbox/promo ship stuff? Probably not, because they're very expensive and single character unlocks (unless you buy from Mudd's), but through the annual Event Campaign, you can get one for free so there's an augment to allow for a trait and/or console from one.
      Should it include c-store stuff? Because that's one of the few places you can get ships/console/starship trait unlocked on your whole account. They're not free, but they're certainly less expensive than lockbox/promo ships. And again, there's the Event Campaign, which gives you the chance to get two T6 ship coupons.
      Should it include event ship consoles or traits? Because those start out as free, but they won't be if you missed that event.
      Should it be only Reputation and Episode rewards? Well, the term "budget" implies (at least to me) implies you have a set amount you're willing to spend on the game, so if it's comprised entirely of free stuff I would've called it a Free-to-Play Build.
      This video was one of my first attempts to lean away from the super high end builds I usually did and tried to tone it down to a more accessible level. I've been playing STO for a VERY long time, so, admittedly, it's not always easy for me to get in the mindset of a new/inexperienced player. A lot of people took issue with how this one was defined, I got no solid answers on how to define "budget build" for the future, and a lot of hateful comments. That's why you don't see many budget builds on my channel (or those of the other STO CCs), you try to do something, and everyone just gets mad at you for it.

TTF Photon gets damage buff as the target dies, and using it unlocks the 2-pc set bonus with the Ferrofluid console, which adds +13.3% projectile weapon damage. Also, TTF photon gets the chance at withering radiation proc, too.

      Either is a good budget choice, really. I used Quantum Phase because it's an easier get (since it's an episode reward) and breaking down shields is important for a torp build (because they have high resistance against torp damage). The Terran Task Force would be good because its extra exotic abilities. The two piece with the Ferrofluidic is a nice addition, but its only a cat1 buff, but it's really not something to make a big deal about.
