    Test and multiple interviews are also happening in Switzerland. For my current job I commuted more than 100km for two rounds on interview.

    I obtained my PR visa back in 1995 while still living in the UK. I worked as a software engineer and qualified on the points system. I moved to Vancouver on my own. I had no prearranged job, no apartment and no friends. My savings were running out quickly so I took a job as a window cleaner to pay the bills. It basically took me 6 months to get my first software job. After that things started to get easier. Looking back I was young and stupid and took a big risk and it worked out. I think those days it may have been harder without the Internet to look for work. I remember looking through the jobs ads in the Vancouver Sun every day. I eventually took my Canadian citizenship and things worked out. I now live in California but that’s another story. The bottom line is it is tough moving to another country and starting from nothing but you got to hang in there if you really want it.

      This is a great, inspiring story! Congrats on it all working out

      @@JackStrange Thanks Jack, I hope things work out for the both of you too. You really have to give it time and unless you are really lucky you will hit a few bumps on the way. You just have to hang in there and sometimes make compromises with regards to where you work and live until you become established. At least you are not alone and you can support each other. Hold on to your dreams, you will make it if you’re determined. BTW my wife and I love your cats. We have a black cat too😀

    Not to many places can you go skiing, golfing and sailing on the ocean in the same day. Ever since Expo 86, the UK giving back Hong Kong, the real estate market has gone crazy.

    Tests + multiple interviews is standard fare in some industries even in the UK

      Neither of us have ever come across tests & multiple interviews for any of our jobs back home. Same with my friends, colleagues, and relatives. Same jobs being applied for here and he’s had multiple tests & interviews & then never heard back.

    Your videos are so helpful as someone who's planning to move to Vancouver in August/September so thank you! I noticed on your instagram that you also have a small business selling candles - I currently own a small business selling art prints and illustrated gifts on Etsy (I'm an illustrator) and I was wondering how you're finding that as I'm hoping my small biz will earn me enough for me to just get a part time service industry job on the side (roughly 20/25 hours per week?). However I have no idea how to even go about the self employment route in Canada - would you be able to give some advice on this please? Also I'm planning to houseshare with my rent budget being around $1100 (not expecting to live in downtown lol)

      Thank you so much. I’m glad they’re helpful for you. I’m actually hoping to do a vid soon on business here because it’s a lot different. I’m trying to set mine up too but it’s not happening smoothly 😭 I personally wouldn’t rely on your biz to begin with, simply because of the cost of living here too and the time it takes to set up.

    • @JackStrange
      @JackStrange  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lots of places allow pets, and if there are limits, they tend to limit at 2. I hear that sometimes they restrict on breed and sizes, but there are plenty of pet friendly rentals around. I speak about it in some other videos. Check marketplace, or kijiji or craiglist 😊

    Thank you so much for the video. Would 10k EUR be enough to move to vancouver? or should save more? Another questions i am from Portugal and my english level is medium, i can't consider myself a native speaker, i studied finance and i have 5 year of experience. Would i be able to get a job in Vancouver/canada with a medium english level?

    • @JackStrange
      @JackStrange  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      10k would be enough but do try to have a job too. I’m not sure unfortunately on the English level, but what I do know is that Vancouver has a great, welcoming feel to people of all nationalities.

    £50 for a salad! You're having a laugh!! Moving to Whistler in November, money is a big worry!

    • @JackStrange
      @JackStrange  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t speak for whistler, and I’m assuming maybe you have a job in the tourism industry, in which case accommodation might be provided? Not sure if that would also mean food etc may get provided. But yeah, £50 for a salad was and is ridiculous, and it’s like that across the board here for food. I’m really struggling moneywise but the context here is right in the centre of downtown van, and only having one income with expensive rent. It’s a squeeze for me but you might be good!
