Nothing. They need our data to offset losses. They make money from selling player data they mine via PSN. I made a random PSN account and linked it to the game back when i bought it. I don;t own a PlayStation and as of now will never buy one. I'm afraid this might kill the game tho. We will lose Russians, the Baltic states, all of Africa, China, the Philippines and so on along with anyone who refuses to comply. The game's review score is also probably going to fall to "Overwhelmingly Negative" by Monday. Sony fucked around and found out.

I’ve only had my Steam account for a few weeks. I still ain’t risking losing it because it’s linked to my currently nonexistent PSN account. Also, if people in non-PSN countries can play it (the situation has improved), then why can’t we play it without an account?
ok so i can get a PSN account, right? *BUT* EVERY interaction ive had with account linking has been horrific. Fallen Order, Minecraft, Trove. Two of those completely locked me out of the game. One forced me to go through a multimonth process to get my account back. account linking SUCKS and i really really dislike it.

easy solve guys, just VPN to a country like the US or AU where complicated verification is NOT NEEDED & make an account there within their region. not that hard to come up with a fake name, address etc... many people make BS account nowadays anyway or anonymity, access to different region game stores etc..
The one thing I hate is people arguing that "other games make you get a third party account" like that is somehow a good thing or makes it fine. I don't want ANY game to require another account to link too, its stupid af. Plus, Sony's argument of making it easier to police people is dumb too. Like I don't know how to block people or report them. If I was in the refund window, I would immediately ask for one. On top of my own feelings on mandatory account linking, there are all the countries that make it hard or impossible to play now. Theres also the PS/Sony data security concerns. Mandatory accounts are all around just terrible. Make it optional at the very least,

The PC steam sales are massively higher than the console sales and I think Sony on steam would get a smaller publishing percent each sale, whereas on console it would be full sale price, so clearly they're mad and want more money and will do anything to get it, classic corporate logic

PSN is not secure for crap. i seen a screen door with more security. not to mention PSN is not available in all countries.
