Choosing the Shortest Mask that Prevents Overlaps

  • Some test questions can show IP addresses in multiple subnets, and ask you to choose a mask - one mask - that is the shortest mask that does not cause an overlap between subnets. It's an interesting way to think about IP subnetting. It also answers a question from April7th in Wendell Odom's CCENTSkills blog (ccentskills.certskills.com).

    I had this problem and couldn't find the solution, only by reading the title of this video I found my problem, I was using the incorrect mask on the topology ,thanks

    I tried woking on this using Packet Tracer V.7. In R2, 172.16.5.2 of S0/0/1 overlaps with 172.16.6.1 of S0/0/0. Where did I make a mistake just in case this is right?
