    the NFL really take many different ways on taking players for granted and to know about races from how people look or their skin color

    the mlb, has jackie robinson, day which is today in which all the players wear the number 42, and we celebrate the history and doors he opened for african american athletes around the world. i always wondered why the nfl never did anything like this for the first african american nfl player..

    Nfl Teams get players from college , even back then , and not many black people went to college back then.

    • @arogthegriot
      @arogthegriot 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true at all, hbcu's have always had sports. Plus back then college was seen as pro and the nfl was seen as a beer league until papa bear Halas signed red grange to Chicago, college players looked down on CFL and nfl

    NFL didn’t have a color barrier to break. The NFL’s first championship was won by the Akron Pro’s , whose star player was Fritz Pollard, who was a star football player from Brown University. The NFL should celebrate the fact no color barrier existed in the league from its beginning, instead of the misleading historical narrative of Kenny Washington.

    • @kevinmccabe3984
      @kevinmccabe3984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That’s not true. There was a de facto ban on African Americans for more than a decade because of the influence of George Preston Marshall. Saying the nfl had no color barrier is the same as saying mlb had no color barrier. Fleet walker was the first black mlb player in 1884, but Jackie Robinson still broke the color barrier in 1947. Like football the color barrier was formed after Fleet’s career as the league became more popular

      Yes he did. Similar to baseball the nfl wasn’t segregated at first, but as it became more popular, racist owners wanted it to look more “professional” and segregated it. Jackie Robinson and Kenny Washington weren’t the first professional black players in their sport leagues, but they did break the color barriers set in place for decades.

    I don't believe we should make it about race. Make it about the productivity of the players. Let's like this comment to spread the message. 👍

      there were unwritten rules that the league would not admit black layers, the rams received backlash from the rest of the league for this decision... proves how racist people still were.
